I saw him at the house cafe in dekalb illinois last night and talked with him. He is a real down to earth nice guy. I was floored by his guitar playing skills and his band just makes it so much better.
A good friend of mine knows Kapsalis personally and recommended that I go see him in NYC. So I went down to the east village thinking it was going to be a decent show. Little did I know...I agree completely with 'sibersong' because seeing this guy online is nothing compared to seeing him in person. He played with another guitarist in one of the best shows I've ever seen. Makes you wonder why the most talented performers go unrecognized by the general public.
If you EVER get a chance to see Kapsalis in person, RUN, do not walk to a show! He and his trio are just incredible and mesmerizing. Kapsalis is not your normal guitar virtuoso...he makes it a totally new instrument. He and his trio's style is called "Tribal Mediterrean". They constantly surprise their audience with unexpected and joyous rhythms and riffs. Astonishing talent!
i went to school with andrew and knew his brother, i wonder what he's doing nowadays. oh wait, now i don't. we hung out a bit and he jammed with a bunch of mutual freinds, he was a freakin phenom. go ansu!!!!

Cool video (I love his version of this tune).
Also - great edit Michael! I saw that old footage you had to work with so I know how hard this is to do with just 1 1/2 angles.
Video really showcases Andreas well. Time to amp him up to HD so we can get the real crisp picture of what his fingers are really doing.
