  • i was hooked after this

  • Alysheba WAS my favorite race horse of all time, second only to Secretariat in my opinion!

  • Alysheba was one of the grittiest racehorses of all time!!!!

  • "And Down the Stretch they Come!"

  • RIP baby!

  • Condolences to all connected to this great horse. What memories ! I just reviewed his PPs and had not recognized that in his last 4 races when the blinkers were taken off he won them all with magnificent performances- just look at those times-wow! Based on that he may be somewhat underrated in the all time evaluations.

  • check out the 1988 santa anita handicap here on youtube...

  • Two of those were back-to-back track records.

  • @opjkdg The only horse since Alysheba I would rate his equal are Sunday Silence, Easy Goer, Cigar, Skip Away, and maybe Zenyatta.

  • Thrilling race, a great champion. RIP Alysheba

  • Rip Alysheba with death we can also celebrate the birth of life.........Today March 30, 1970 secretariat was born. My two favorite horses of all time!

  • RIP Champ!

  • Today I am one sad man. You were my favorite horse of them all. I don't care what they say, you won the Bluegrass. I was there at CD when you won the big one, and returned me over $370 for a $20 bet. You went off at 8-1. You narrowly got beat in the Classic that same year, but returned true to form the next, and thrilled us some more. I was at least glad to know you died on home soil, among those that loved and remembered you. RIP champ. Now you can run with Ferdi just for the fun of it!

  • Come flying home Alysheba. There's nothing more unforgettable than a horse who will swoop down by surprise!

  • You were amazing, and will always be my favorite!! RIP

  • A great horse. Thanks for the memories, Alysheba. RIP.

  • Rest In Peace Alysheba.

  • I was able to see Alysheba for the first time at the horse park last week and got some videos. Unfortunately, I just found out that he was euthanized last night. He has always been my favorite.

  • Please post the video you took. I, and I'm sure many others would like to see it. Thank you.

  • He was a god on track. RIP Alysheba.

  • Rest in Peace Alysheba!

Alysheba was euthanized Friday night following an accident earlier in the evening at the Kentucky Horse Park. He will be greatly missed!

  • looks a little like afleet alex

  • you mean afleet alex looks a little like alyseba..

  • Welcome home Alysheba, it's been along time since you've been gone.

    Welcome Home...

  • my horse's grandpa is avies copy! and my horse is related to bold ruler to!! even tho my horse doesnt race anymore, (i guess he wasnt the best racer)im PROUD of his bloodlines! lol

  • I couldn't believe it that day I watched it, and still almost can't...that Alysheba could clip heels with Bet Twice, gather himself and make another run only to get impeded again by a drifting BT, and once again make another run to win it.

A sensational performance, one that doesn't seem to be talked about as much as it should.

  • Hear, hear! Alysheba was a heck of a horse.

    Take care.

  • @Bassman968 cool eh nice horse

  • Do you have the 1987 Preakness? I haven't seen it since by beta vcr went down years ago.

  • No, sorry, I don't.

  • Hey cf1970, Demons Begone was pulled up for profuse bleeding. What prompts a horse to start randomly bleeding during a race? I hear it all the time, "he's a bleeder." What does that mean?

  • some horses have a circulatory system that houses weak walled capalaries around the lungs. As the horse runs and the pressure builds within these weak capalaries, the wall of the "cap" can rupture and allow blood to flow into the lungs and on up thru the nostrils. This is NOT a serious situation and is easily maintained by a medication (legal) called lasix. In humans, lasix is administered for high blood pressure relief.

  • Wow, that thuroughly explains everything, thanks.

  • alysheba is my horse's daddy!

    =D

  • I do not think anyone but Chris could have gathered him back up after the stumble and win the race...where did 20 years go?!?

  • When he stumbled like that, I feared the worse. I was there that day, had $40 to win on him. Blew most the winnings later that night at a local titty bar {hey, I was only 25 at the time!}. Right on about where does the time go, seems like it was just yesterday. I HATE WHAT CD MANAGEMENT HAS DONE TO THE TRACK, IT NOW HAS A TACKY CASINO FEEL TO IT.

  • Wow, That was an Awesome video.

    I rated it a 5 !!!!

I was there to see Alysheba win that day!!!!

  • Who called the 1987 Kentucky Derby?

  • The legendary Dave Johnson.

    Take care.

  • Ya know, wasn't Avies Copy in this race... finished 3rd maybe? I didn't hear his name called at all.

  • Boy I had forgotten how Bet Twice weaved at the end...and the names in this race: Cryptoclearance, Capote, and what happened to Demon's Begone?

  • I believe he bled and was pulled up in the backstretch.

  • Alysheba still living in Saudi...there are pictures on the Internet...he looks wonderful...

  • Just took a look, he's lookin' great! One of my all-time favourites!

    He's awesome.

Take care. Bye for now. :-D

  • Still looks as big as ever...

  • some wonderful memories on here - keep opsting them up!

  • Thanks.

As long as I keep enjoying it and the footage doesn't dry up, I will.

    Take care.

  • Wonderful! So glad you got to see him run. Take care.

  • Alysheba=Courage

  • Yes indeed. What a game horse. Take care.

  • that was an amazing recovery at the end when Bet Twice veered in front of him! McCarron was nearly unseated and Alysheba almost went down and they still won! Alysheba was an amazing horse, definately one of the best horses to set foot on the track!

  • I agree. Alysheba sure was something special. He sure showed his resilience here. Take care.

  • What an eventful stretch run! Bet Twice nearly knocks him down at the eighth pole, then bears out twice after that and A still nails him. He showed just how brillint he was in his four year old year - six grade 1 wins including the Classic. I still have The Blood Horse magazine with him on the cover winning it. A true champion indeed!

  • No kidding! I'd totally forgotten how green Bet Twice raced down the stretch. Can you imagine what the stewards' head on view looked like? More like a wacky video game than an actual race.

Sunday Silence weaved like that down the stretch in '89 but no one was there to be bothered.

I think Bet Twice would have been taken down if he had held on.

  • "the terrific Alysheba" How true CF!

He made up what his daddy did not do.

  • Thanks for the kind words, John. He was indeed a great horse. Did his daddy proud. Have a nice day. Take care.

  • hey cf1970...could u post any of the easy goer wins if u have them..thanx

  • I wish I did. Sorry. Take care.
