  • @sweetdream5866 The song was originally written by Shuggie Otis in 1972. He wrote it about a girlfriend who wrote strawberry scented letters to him.

  • @JohnGrant2011 Thank you. We even had that album back in the day.

  • @sweetdream5866 This is just my opinion, Those dudes were in the studio tripping on acid when they penned this song. I say that because the lyrics are just out there..Awesome song though..

  • @sweetdream5866 "Strawberry Letter 23" is a song written by Shuggie Otis, although known most prominently by the version recorded by The Brothers Johnson.Otis wrote the song for a girlfriend who used strawberry-scented paper when she wrote letters to him."--Wikipedia This is the internet :)

  • 43 people hit dislike by mistake.

  • I grew up with these guys in Los Angeles. Exact same community within two blocks from each other. We even went to the same High School, Crenshaw High. Know them BOTH personally back in the day. Louis used to walk past my family home on his way to school. His brother, Joe, was tight with my sister. We used to also go to their rehersals at their home up the street, and they would play Steppin Wolf songs (Magic Carpet Ride) in their living room. It was Louis, Alex, Joe, and one of their cousins.

  • 43 people have never received a scented letter from their girlfriend. And for that, the world is a sadder place

  • I was too young and sheltered at the time to even think about weed not to mention smoke any or to think that this song was about it. Ehm...I did wonder what all the fantastic imagery was about. Great song and great times.

  • @escobarstatus right

  • Hey, what a funky music. I heard a few years ago a rap song using a sample from this title. Does anybody can tell which rap group did it ? Thx

  • Anybody that dislikes this song is a true ass licking idiot who wants to suck bieiber dik and lik stanky beyonce ass after it was fuked by fags. This music is amoungst the most incredible ever created.

  • Jackie Brown

  • Me & my ex's song from 1977 Denver Colorado Lowery Air Force Base. Do I get a hollar!

  • 39 dislikes? That's 39 to many.

    Smooth music.

  • RIP Bomont.. you will be missed

  • Super song from the past!

  • That bass line is the truth!

  • I remember I first heard this song in New York

  • The song is called "Strawberry Letter 23" because the song itself is supposed to be a response or answer to "Strawberry Letter 22". Which is fictional. Great song for sure.

  • Martina, my sister...1977, we took dad's yellow Cordoba with the T-tops down on a Sunday and cruised to Tonawanda, to nana's to pick up Roy, then into the city to pick up Dino, then Milo, and we cruised and jammed to this full blast, wind in our hair flyin' down Maple Road!

  • this song is dedicated to my Dad, thanks for the Jam session in 1974.

  • Louis Johnson is the reason I started playing bass

  • @rth095 OK so it's Louis that played the bass I always get the instruments mixed up

  • @weluvmusick This here is a 1977 classic! George and Louis Johnson! Strawberry Letter #23(even though the song says "Strawberry Letter #22")What More Could You Ask For?

  • @rth095 Good for you. I wish I had talent. I am just a child of 1967 who found 70's on my own and love this great music. They don't make it like this anymore and have not since.

  • JACKIE BROWN

  • Ahh yes. Sept 1977 it was...I was a junior at wilbraham and monson academy...disco, funk, and Chuckie's Gong Show!

    /watch?v=h10u4q3JXbw

  • @NenoBrown24 Classic songs have sampled the same songs before think Public Enemy & Wu-Tang with the grunt. You just have to utilize it in different ways.

  • ''I got a problem spending ten thousand dollars on an ungreatful peanut headed nigga to get him outta jail but I did it, and how small was that jail cell motherfucker?''

  • @amclartyfrancis2k9 apparently that jail cell was not as big as Bomont's mouth

  • i'm sorry ms. jackson oooh

  • They don't make these funk classics like they use too.

  • Great song!

  • Julian Peretta a copié la mélodie de la chanson. Et pour en faire de la bouze... C'est un triste sort que l'on fait à la musique aujourd'hui.

  • @uneedtherapy42 his face smiled, but his eyes didn't, under rated film in my opinion

  • @uneedtherapy42 the way Taratino doesn't cut while following the car, and has camera go over fence is great for the affect as well, Samuel L was really good I'm this movie, ganster characters are hard to make realistic in my opinion, and he was all if the cold blooded person he was portraying

  • That's the music than have to be put in the discos.

  • This song is truly dedicated to my daughter Ashely, made whole with a voice beyond reasoning! See, she has autistm, and is unable to communicate ! Babygirl I have never stopped praying for you, ever since you were 5yrs old. Im not giving up hope in God! This song is for you. :)

  • bass line bass line bass line bass line bass line bass line... ah you get the point!

  • Ahhh yea! Strawberry Letter 22, with FUNK INCLUDED! Much better

  • Get the FUNK outta ma face!!!

  • loved this song in high school, saw Jackie Brown and LMFAO at the choice of that song for that scene, fucking genius! Sam Jackson is the Man, I'da shot Chris Tucker's jabberin' ass too!

  • Strawberry Letter 23

  • Jackie Brown movie, Samuel L Jackson putting on his gloves, bout to smoke dude in trunk, fucjen gangster shit, bad ass song

  • @woodlpve how the music fades out and then back in when he comes around the corner is genius and vintage Tarantino! loved your comment here!!

  • One of the best COVER SONGS ever, and yes its a cover. Still a great tune. Original is by Shuggie Otis.

  • @gfreshski

OH NO WAY....thought it was a brother's Johnson original.

  • AK-47... When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfucker in the room, except no substitutes.

  • shuggie was a totally beautiful genius. this song is prolific. has all the emotions of cherry blossom trees in urban settings.

  • im 15.

  • its strawberry letter 22 not 23

  • @killakam201 You're right and wrong. The song mentions Strawberry Letter #22, but the song is about his expectations of Strawberry Letter #23, which actually is the name of the song. "Strawberry Letter #23".

  • wow what a tune, cant bleave im only hearing this for the first time at 29!!!!!!!!!

  • it's a great cover, but all the props point to Shuggie Otis..and he makes it sound like sleigh bells in winter

  • @daz1977 yep. Shuggie was the man, no doubt. an incredible unsung genious.

  • nate's death :(

  • Songs like this and the likes of others made in their time will always be known as the greatest hits of all time. Songs of today are just for today,,,THAT'S IT!!!!! I am proud to be a born late 60's kid because I grew up with the songs of the 70's. At least I have these to fall back on. What does this generation have now? Lil Wayne? Beyonce? Trey Songz? I feel so bad for them.

  • @1luckie1 you are so right. most kids these days have no idea what they missed out on. i used to wonder a lot if i was just getting old, but more and more i realise that most of the stuff that passes for music these days is just garbage!

  • @zimzum915 Like I told 1luckie1 there are a lot of artists from my generation who are good. They just don't get radio play sadly because the record companies don't think the music will sell to a mainstream crowd that happens to be dumbed down as it is.

Check out Janelle Monae (who has toured with Bruno Mars and got discovered by Outkast),Raheem DeVaugn,Dwele,Bilal,Robert Glasper (Jazz) and you'll see my generation still learns from the past.

  • @Moog168 yea, i'm familiar with all of those except for Robert Glasper. I would consider them exceptions to the point i was making. Bilal's debut came out over a decade ago, and he is still considered underground, so you are defintely correct about mainstream record labels.

  • @zimzum915 Robert Glasper is dope he's coming out with a new album called "black radio" It has Musiq Soulchild,Chrisette Michelle,Lupe Fiasco and Erykah Badu and other artists on the album.

  • @1luckie1 I do agree that music today is predominantly crap as i was also a late 60's kid...i also remember my folks feeling sorry for me because i missed out on the music of the 40s and 50s! I guess its all relative.

  • @1luckie1 Oh don't....we have Janelle Monae and other artists like Bilal,Dwele, and the late J Dilla who has done their research to produce hits.

Don't always depend on the radio to judge today's generation because the industry is just garbage sadly.

  • if you disliked this; you heard the wrong track

  • i love this song

  • @weluvmusick "WOW these songs esp Strawberry Letter 22 bring bk ALOT of good mems for myself of my childhood. Too bad the kids of today cant enjoy what I and Im sure u did as well then. GREAT job keep em coming." Sincerley, RwB Guardian.

  • @RwBguardian I enjoy hearing them sampled as well, let me know this music was way ahead of it's time

  • @weluvmusick I only wish that were true brother because our time is now and the music ain't jumpin' like this! RnB is now old school and hip-hop beats are here to stay! Keep listen to and maybe someday it will return!

  • @weluvmusick This music was right on time!!

  • When "Q" caught these cats he struck gold
