i drove a scoda fabia vrs a few months ago.. and OH MY GOD. the mid-range pull is insane.. it pulls way better than a fiesta st, ibiza cupra, civic type r ect... its nowehere near as fast a a type r but the mid range its a huge kick.. with a remap these vrs fabia's would be mental.. wouldi buy one? no. the handling i found to be poor, and the interior was horrible. all i liked was the engine and gearbox. too ugly and drealy.. fast car though.
YES!!! From the minute the Fabia took the lead in the start, I was rooting for it, although the Mini was starting to give me cause to bite my tongue in half at some points in time.
Now I know what to do when my dad wants to trade in his Fabia Sedan... show this to him, and tell him to let me have it. A car this good is a keeper. I love Skoda Auto.
RIP TDI-PD! I'm glad I managed to buy a 1.9 (new Fabia - 77kW, not this RS) before it was killed by Euro5. It's such a great engine. If you want to overtake you press the accelator, wait something about half an hour and then off you go like a rocket:-P

The Skoda has a lot more of hp ... There is no point to compare it against the "normal" Mini Cooper. They should take the Cooper S ... But then, bye, bye Skoda!

@7urb0m4n Not really, the 1.4 TSI is turbo charged and super charged, the 1.9 TDI has major flat spots in third gear and the turbo is low pressure. Sure the diesal can pull better off the line but it'll only hold the lead for about a second or two.
@Ssy0u But, when someone ask me what RS Fabia I want I´ll say "JUST FABIA RS Mk.1 !!!" the fabia RS Mk.2 is too difficult (lots of electronic for the bi-turbo system and DSG transmission) there is no way to have manual transmission because this Fabia is built on old platform, you can´t gat there 4x4 for better traction....... For me it´s too difficult car and not that good looking like Fabia 1
@7urb0m4n : U are wrong , Škoda has TFSI engine not bi turbo.(compressor and turbo isnt really bi-turbo ;).I had Škoda Octavia 1.8 turbo 4x4 - 200 hp chiped.Very good car and cheap.And i m from czech republic (where Škoda living) and i know a lot of this cars.
@H2Oangelstears Tak to můžeme normálně mluvit česky :D Jo Oktávka v 1.8 20V turbo je moc dobrá ještě s Haldex 4x4 jsem z toho auta měl v základu taky hodně dobrý pocit. Opravdu je motor ve fábii s mechanickým kompresorem a turbokompresorme nazýván biturbo, stačí se třeba podívat do nějákého časopisu (Svět Motorů, Autohit, atd.....) kde je o něm recenze nebo konkrétně o Fabii RS II a uvidíte že v tabulce o motoru je opravdu napsán motor R4 Biturbo. Je to celkem jedno hlavně že víme o co jde :))
@7urb0m4n : Motor : Zážehový přeplňovaný 4.válec, ačkoliv jsem studoval tento motor v různých časopisech nikde není psané že se jedná o bi-turbo.Ono to je logické protože kompresor není turbo v tom je hodně velký rozdíl.Jinak biturbo z dílny koncernu wv je 2.7 L V6 , 4,2 L V8 a 5.0 L V10.
i think that the mini actually could've won that. hammond didn't cut the 2nd to last corner like he should've. that would've put right next to the skoda and then he carried too much speed into the last corner and understeered wide. had he slowed down more and cut the 2nd to last corner he wouldve been inside the skoda for the last turn and taken it.

@alaj222 Well cars are not that hard to handle unless you don't a power steering system. Everything is in how well you determine de line of the car...your entrance point to the corner and how you attack the apex. So if you do it right in the first place...you shouldn't be fighting with your car.

@dualaction0 Děláš si srandu? Fabia si čapla na přední kolo a sunula se ven, Mini v každé utažené zatáčce dotáhlo ztrátu z rovinky. Brzdy byly taky někde jinde. Zcela opomíjím fakt, že Křeček jel na hraně a auto bylo pořád téměř neutrální a dokázalo vykouzlit i přetáčivost. Říkají to i oba na videu;-)

both of these cars are really good. I guess the point of this test isn't prove what car is better, but show to world that czech republic can produce nice car too. And I honestly have to say that I was "surprised" (bad meaning) when skoda made DIESEL sport car and I'm Czech! Skoda can produce much better sport car then this Fabia is!! Maybe the diesel sport car was the reason to do this test!
I recommend to do test with another Czech cars - TATRA (really good off-road trucks)
Bought a Fabia vRS off a family member. They got themselves a Mini Cooper S. Perfectly happy with it, had it two years now, and it's an absolute train by comparison to pretty much anything you can throw at it.
So what, two years on? I'm getting an average of 46mpg, and have never had a mechanical problem with it. My mate with the Mini Cooper S is now selling his for another diesel car because it costs so much to run and averages 20 mpg.
Or you should have just bought the Ibiza cupra tdi in the first place.. 200bhp 300 ib/ft with just a remap, 312mm ap racing brakes. They outrun cooper s jcw, you can trust me on that ;)

But the cupra tdi has 312 mm ap racing brakes, so you will kill a mini under braking, and the torque coming out of the corner can make up for that, trust me ;)

i drove a scoda fabia vrs a few months ago.. and OH MY GOD. the mid-range pull is insane.. it pulls way better than a fiesta st, ibiza cupra, civic type r ect... its nowehere near as fast a a type r but the mid range its a huge kick.. with a remap these vrs fabia's would be mental.. wouldi buy one? no. the handling i found to be poor, and the interior was horrible. all i liked was the engine and gearbox. too ugly and drealy.. fast car though.

YES!!! From the minute the Fabia took the lead in the start, I was rooting for it, although the Mini was starting to give me cause to bite my tongue in half at some points in time.
Now I know what to do when my dad wants to trade in his Fabia Sedan... show this to him, and tell him to let me have it. A car this good is a keeper. I love Skoda Auto.

RIP TDI-PD! I'm glad I managed to buy a 1.9 (new Fabia - 77kW, not this RS) before it was killed by Euro5. It's such a great engine. If you want to overtake you press the accelator, wait something about half an hour and then off you go like a rocket:-P

@7urb0m4n Not really, the 1.4 TSI is turbo charged and super charged, the 1.9 TDI has major flat spots in third gear and the turbo is low pressure. Sure the diesal can pull better off the line but it'll only hold the lead for about a second or two.

@Ssy0u But, when someone ask me what RS Fabia I want I´ll say "JUST FABIA RS Mk.1 !!!" the fabia RS Mk.2 is too difficult (lots of electronic for the bi-turbo system and DSG transmission) there is no way to have manual transmission because this Fabia is built on old platform, you can´t gat there 4x4 for better traction....... For me it´s too difficult car and not that good looking like Fabia 1

@7urb0m4n : U are wrong , Škoda has TFSI engine not bi turbo.(compressor and turbo isnt really bi-turbo ;).I had Škoda Octavia 1.8 turbo 4x4 - 200 hp chiped.Very good car and cheap.And i m from czech republic (where Škoda living) and i know a lot of this cars.

@H2Oangelstears Tak to můžeme normálně mluvit česky :D Jo Oktávka v 1.8 20V turbo je moc dobrá ještě s Haldex 4x4 jsem z toho auta měl v základu taky hodně dobrý pocit. Opravdu je motor ve fábii s mechanickým kompresorem a turbokompresorme nazýván biturbo, stačí se třeba podívat do nějákého časopisu (Svět Motorů, Autohit, atd.....) kde je o něm recenze nebo konkrétně o Fabii RS II a uvidíte že v tabulce o motoru je opravdu napsán motor R4 Biturbo. Je to celkem jedno hlavně že víme o co jde :))

@7urb0m4n : Motor : Zážehový přeplňovaný 4.válec, ačkoliv jsem studoval tento motor v různých časopisech nikde není psané že se jedná o bi-turbo.Ono to je logické protože kompresor není turbo v tom je hodně velký rozdíl.Jinak biturbo z dílny koncernu wv je 2.7 L V6 , 4,2 L V8 a 5.0 L V10.

i think that the mini actually could've won that. hammond didn't cut the 2nd to last corner like he should've. that would've put right next to the skoda and then he carried too much speed into the last corner and understeered wide. had he slowed down more and cut the 2nd to last corner he wouldve been inside the skoda for the last turn and taken it.

@alaj222 Well cars are not that hard to handle unless you don't a power steering system. Everything is in how well you determine de line of the car...your entrance point to the corner and how you attack the apex. So if you do it right in the first place...you shouldn't be fighting with your car.

@dualaction0 Děláš si srandu? Fabia si čapla na přední kolo a sunula se ven, Mini v každé utažené zatáčce dotáhlo ztrátu z rovinky. Brzdy byly taky někde jinde. Zcela opomíjím fakt, že Křeček jel na hraně a auto bylo pořád téměř neutrální a dokázalo vykouzlit i přetáčivost. Říkají to i oba na videu;-)
Sportovní řízení je o zábavě, přesnosti a zpětné vazbě, ne o rozjezdu na rovince s přemotorovaným autem pro důchodce a sociální rodiny. Až budu měnit MX-5, bude to možná právě Cooper.

both of these cars are really good. I guess the point of this test isn't prove what car is better, but show to world that czech republic can produce nice car too. And I honestly have to say that I was "surprised" (bad meaning) when skoda made DIESEL sport car and I'm Czech! Skoda can produce much better sport car then this Fabia is!! Maybe the diesel sport car was the reason to do this test!
I recommend to do test with another Czech cars - TATRA (really good off-road trucks)

Bought a Fabia vRS off a family member. They got themselves a Mini Cooper S. Perfectly happy with it, had it two years now, and it's an absolute train by comparison to pretty much anything you can throw at it.
So what, two years on? I'm getting an average of 46mpg, and have never had a mechanical problem with it. My mate with the Mini Cooper S is now selling his for another diesel car because it costs so much to run and averages 20 mpg.
Superb little car, and so fast.

But the cupra tdi has 312 mm ap racing brakes, so you will kill a mini under braking, and the torque coming out of the corner can make up for that, trust me ;)

The Skoda has 13% more power and 3% more power/weight. That's why it's a bit faster on the straights.
But Diesel is horrible in a Hot Hatch. If you want fun, buy a MINI !

@rock3tcat so, why would you drive a car that looks like shit while most countries dont even allow you to driver over 120? i mean, what is the use of the extra speed when you hardly ever use it?

@luuko656 extra speed= extra power . so the extra speed is maybe to get up to the max alowed speed faster .... i think
