The group is mixed of different creole musicians. THEY ARE NOT ALL Haitians. The lead singer is from Guadeloupe, The keyboardist is from Cape Verde, The guitarist is from Haiti. I don't know about the bassist and the drumer.
This is how Carimi used to sound in the past. Unfortunately, they have to provide the "un, deux" feel to stay in the "bal" business. There is not a business structure that promotes individuality in Haitian music.
Unfortunately, kompa music becomes very static and everyone is trying to sound the same. If a group tends to deroute from the Kompa direk highway in order to provide a sound that is pleasing to all races, they tend to be overlooked since the only bread and butter of the Haitian music is "Bal".
Nice work guys. I have not enjoyed many Kompa musics lately. I really liked this one.. Very good. I will have to break my comments in several segments in order to express my concerns about Haitian Kompa music.
