Various reasons, usually it becasue the formulas update instantly (PivotTables you have to refresh) and becasue people may not want to use a Pivot Table because others may not like them.
Pivot Tables are much easier than formulas. 3, 4, 5 criteria are all possible with both formulas and Pivot Tables. I have many videos if uou search my channel and I have playlists that have videos grouped.
I noticed that it's not possible to use undo when i accidently forgot to mark 'unique records' at the advanced filter. That's kind of weird...

Excelsfun, in a video you mention that it would be brutal to do this by hand. In fact it was done by hand a few years ago...
Gee, I can imagine a secretary doing a job like this by hand for an angry employer.
"Mrs. Secreaty Excel, do this inmediately or you{ll be fired!" l0l

You are right! Before 1981 when the 1st spreadsheet (VisiCalc) came out, people did it by hand!
We are lucky to have spreadsheets!

I've already learned so much from only two videos.
When would it be necessary to use formulas for cross tabulations?
What about cross-tab for 3 or more categories? Would excel's pivot feature handle that or would it be necessary to use formulas?
