Monasteries were repaired frequently and monks were paid by the government, which I only heard of happening in China.
In other words, you (pretend to) discriminate against her simply because she didn't grow up in Tibet. She's not "pure"? So what do you say about all the people in Tibet who rose up throughout the years demanding their freedom? They were not real Tibetans too? Are you going to say that China defeated Japan in the WWII? That would be really revealing. The Chinese militia and thousands of volunteers all over the country are risking their lives to save the mass civilians buried underground. To talk about human rights? Answer to question 1: Yes, I have problems with her being a non-Tibetan speaking, but westernized foreigner who what to "free" a people she can not talk with. I have problems with her fighting for the "freedom" of a land she never set her foot on.

A to question 2: "Tibetans living a decent life enjoying religious freedom" is a fair description of the situation in Tibet now. Most Tibetans have their own house and livestocks, education is free for 9 years, their medicare is mostly covered by the government, the everage life span increase from 35 in 1950s to above 60 in 2000s, tourism flourished as a new resource of income... Monasteries were repaired frequently and monks were paid by the government, which I only heard of happening in China.

I think she is a second-generation Tibetan born in Canada. (Would Lhadon-la confirm this for all of us?) My guess is that she does not speak Mandarin or Tibetan so she didn't attempt to talk to the dancers. What troubles me most is that she, without the ability to communicate with the dancers (or any non-English speaking Tibetans in general) feels that she knows their feelings and thoughts and therefore can represent them. Self-righteousness in its worst political form.

chanted when people work on the roof (called aga-dong in Tibetan). In this case it's sung in the central U-Tsang dialect, althought the dancers are Amdo-wa, who don't have this kind of task in their daily life due to the different archetectural style in the Amdo region. It's a choreographed version of something commeonly seen in Lhasa. PURELY TIBETAN! It is clear from your comment that you know little about Chinese or Tibetan language/culture.

The ignorance of wwillow2 serves as an excellent example of the quality of those who support Lhadon's view in this video clip. These dancers, whom I know very well, are paid at a rate comparable to a restaurant waiter in the city for their honest job. Their dancing, which is not shown here, is fantastic and 100% Tibetan, much better than the westernized dance moves done by the loose-haired second-generation oversea Tibetan girls in their losar celebrations.

I know these dancers. They are from a farming village of Guinan, Qinghai. I am curious that this woman never bothered to talk to them to try and understand their opinion. Her twisted and biased comments aren't convincing at all. They only hurt her own credibility and generate less sympathy for her cause. By the way, the dancers invited me to visit their village during their celebration of the Tibetan new year. I went and loved it.

Just because I'm not a member of a culture doesn't mean I can't detect inauthenticity when I see it. Sports teams like the "Chiefs", "Indians" and "Braves" are about as inauthentic as it gets, and I don't have to be Native American to see that.
Ethnic minorities can get whatever jobs they want, but I'm pretty sure there are other jobs besides this.
