Instead of hating on this guy and others who are trying new stuff to get a colder air charge, give him/her some positive feedback on how to do it better. Instead of saying it won't work, tell the guy what might make it better. I have personally tried the cold air modification, and have found that their are benefits to doing it, but it does have drawbacks. Dose not mean it don't work, just means that more research is needed. My HP gains were minimal.
I don't understand how this is ghetto? Isn't it simply re-routed to a desired spot where it'll suck up more air? Or is it simply a cold air. I don't see any ghetto-ness unless I'm oblivious.
this method is the quickest way to clog ur air filter if u daily drive it!! only recommended for track racing because the engine gets a lot hotter and needs cooler air. save urself some headache and don't do this to ur car! its not going to make ur car run any faster or gain horse power, it may decrease horse power and gas milage!
@buddyclubs thats stupid this is a cold air intake he has a filter in it. it increases power because cooler air is denser. if you suck up air that has been heated by the engine you can't get as much because it is less dense. it works better for race cars yes but the pricipal still carry's over.
@REWej8 you can run this type of idea and it may seem fun at the moment unfortunately
it will bring you more hassle rather performance in the long run. if you drive it daily,
during summer time if the filter is this low it expose to more dust and debris that can clog and winter you have to worry about water getting through the filter and into ur engine unless you have a air bypass filter on the intake pipe closer to the engine incase of flood, get into some real engine tuning and stop kidding.
Another disadvantage, now you get that much more dust and bugs shoved into the filter. I tried a similar intake with my car, and in one day I had maybe a dozen grasshoppers and butterflies wedged in the crevices. I ended up having the intake sitting up near the headlight, with a second hose down at the bumper so that when moving, it'd blow cool, fresh air across it, but without the vacuum sucking every single speck into my airbox. That WRX isn't as ghetto as the Echo I have, BTW.
thats not a bad idea at all. i like but i it wouldve been better if relocated that to like the side of the bumper, so you can have you fog lights back. just a sugestion..
this reminds me of when i was in highschool! i had a riced out 95 civic with a cold air soo low one rainy day i hit a huge puddle, sucked in a shit ton of water, and blew out the side of my motor.. i saved all the pieces! hahaha
@Maniakq1 i know many people that have done this on drag cars or street cars and i would think that it should make more power because the air will be force in and if he has a filter some where in the tubing to the intake it should be fine...
so all youve got is stock airbox housing with after market filter, removed resonator and a hole in the bumper? thats basically what ive got now, had to take out the hose since the big rain storm, also how did you connect that screen onto the bumper? glue? or what
so all youve got is the stock air box, removed the intake resonator and after market filter? im about to do that but i feel like the hose would give more power on the highway
i was thinking of having some sort of scoop under the car, but that would be a pain to use with a cone filter. only solution ive found is this 'apollo' air box, which costs $200, so ill just stick with a regular cold air intake.
@pepene93 naw.. Some JDM tuners are in the pursuit of function. THe "function" or versatility of your car is much better with fog lights than those 2 Hp you don't even use
glad you like it. It´s custom made, some hoses, the fog light cover from the dealership, the snorkus delete, and the OEM airbox with an aftermarket filter, no biggy, cheap, but effective
ónly differences: JDM S204 front lip, and the mesh of my grille is a little different to USDM. My intake hole is a fog light cover, that are the only differences to USDM, rest is the same.

I disconnected the hose from the air filter housing (my tuners advice).
And I have an aftermarket drop-in airfilter
