I also loved the Finnish Runo from the Encarta and tracked it down to Varttina's Seelinnikoi (one of their early renditions, now they mix it with elements of rock and pop). And I also loved the piece from Iceland (the dock yard workers song), but I am yet to track it down :( Can someone help me?
i feel so happy to know that more people learned to love this music in the same way i did lol :)
encarta 98, and you may also know the "RAGA PALAS KAFI" by Ravi Shankar, you know this two melodies have meant so much in my life, so much, best wishes from Chile ^_^
Hamza El Din, the celebrated Nubian musician whose rich fusion of Arabic and Nubian sounds entranced audiences worldwide and inspired colleagues like the Grateful Dead and Kronos Quartet, died Monday, May 22nd, at a Berkeley hospital from a gallbladder infection. He was 76.
This video is about a nubian playing ud, not a bloody sheikh preaching dawah.
If you want to preach dawah & deen, preach it to the racist janjaweed arabs, who're killing nubians everyday in darfur.
Preach it to the racist saudis who treat non-arabs esp. south asians like shit & paying them 1/5 the salary of an arab & sometimes not paying them on time.
Just so you know the next time you wish to try and be clever, Darfuris or Furis are not Nubian. However the 'janjaweed arabs you are referring to 'are' Nubians, they call themselves arabs because they speak arabic but they are nubians...
You're right about Janjaweed's being Nubians, but their Leaders have more Arab blood than the more blacker soldiers. And I was wrong about Darfurians being Nubians after some research. But I was only telling that carocha737 user, that this youtube link is about a Nubian singer, not about deen/dawah. If anyone has to preach deen/dawah, they should preach it on those youtube islamic links instead. Remember, I respect Arab culture & language, but I'm an opponent of total arabnization of non-arabs.
Cool, im not here to argue, just to listen to the music I love. It just sounded to me like you were one of a great many people nowadays who love to hate Arabs.
We have a very varied and rich culture and people, many of who are 'arabised arabs' but none the less arabs and most of which is a meld of various peoples of various kingdoms and cultures.
As for our "leaders"... to use the term lightly, they are a different matter.
Ameen, Ameen you are right about that, and if not corrected, they are quick to spread the same racism and lunacy every chance they get in the west ironically against other muslims... ironic since it was not what the religion teaches
Well, religion, society, philosophy, doesn't change an individual.
It's the individual, who changes himself.
When Arab-ruled Abbasid empire was getting corrupt during its last days, waging war with other kingdoms.
The Mongols got so fed up defending themselves that they ended up flattening the entire Abbasid Empire under their foot, which was lesson for the Arabs that they shouldn't have messed with the Mongols in the first place.
I actually own the album and the lyrics are provided: When the gossamer nymph appears, My beloved's beauty drives me to distraction Surrender When I am enraptured by a glimpse, My beloved's beauty is a tender branch caught by the breeze Surrender Oh my destiny, my perplexity, No one can comfort me in my misery, In my lamenting and suffering for love, But for the one in the beautiful mirage My beloved's beauty drives me to distraction, Surrender
I picked it up at my local Joseph Beth bookseller. They have a rather eclectic music selection, including most of Hamza El Din's discography. This particular album is called Eclipse and, if i'm not mistaken, it was his first release. All the other songs on it are great as well, especially Helalisa.
This was the first piece i heard on oud (On Encarta encyclopedia of all places)and I've been in love ever since. it remains my favorite piece and the best rendition of this classical song.
what say this song? someone can write the lyrics please ;D

@captainoats112
It is extremely hypnotic I agree. Something shared with sufi music.
Simply magical this poem and musical accompaniment. May Allah's Mercy rain down upon Hamza. Amen

How can I hate all Arabs when I myself do alot of Arabic-Islamic calligraphy at home?
I'm just against the Arab leaders & Arab bosses, who treat Non-Arabs like 3rd classes citizens.
I don't have problems with the common Arab people, as some of them greet me whenever they see me.
