  • Thanks for the Jamey Johnson tip. Solid Country!

  • Can you bend them strings, I recon he can

  • This dam MEXICAN loves me some WAYLON...........

  • These guys were the country version of the Rolling Stones, can't get any better

  • 3 dumb asses thumbed down

  • Go F yourself mhicks1020....go listen to your favorite band Nirvana. You a-hole. Don't hit U-Tube and hit on Waylon. The man was great! Oh, by the way my name is Hank, and I do scrap.........

  • It sucks we will never have this again!!

  • Everybody knows ol Hank was the king of country music but his music style and Waylons and Hank Jrs are totally diffrent that's why I said what I did it was not to disrespect but part of the reason Hoss wrote this song was because of how diffrent his type of music is vs Hank sr and to the people who think I don't know anything I know ol Hank sr " died at 29 from the love sick blues"

  • @waylonfan01 What Waylon was against was the "Nashville Sound" that Chet Atkins, God love his guitar playing soul, had shoved down Nashville's throats. All the strings and orchestra type stuff he incorporated, sucked to real country fans, but it actually helped save country music. Waylon sure as hell didn't like it and made in perfectly clear to all. Just after the Outlaws came out, Hank Jr had cut Can't You See, but his label wouldn't release it as a single. Waylon released it and had a hit.

  • @rockinredneck57 Are you aware that Waylon played on the tribute special for Chet Atkins. If he did not like Chet, he would not have jammed with him.

  • Just goes to show who knew more, the artists or the producers about where country music was heading. The Nashville Sound died a quick death and the Outlaw sound flourished. Waylon demanded he be able to use HIS band in the studio, unheard of at the time. But they gave in. That's why his recordings are so great. His band, His sound, His way. The man was a genius.

  • Ya want real country music...Waylon Jennings, Vern Gosdin! The "Hoss" and the "Voice" Noone else can compare!!

  • this here is REAL country if you dont like it then you can kiss my ass

  • God we will gladly trade you all the new country pop singers just for weylon and jon

  • I guess Merle Haggard knew what he was talking about : Is the best of the free life behind us now?

Are the good times really over for good? I'm 61 and have been listening to Waylon,Willie,Johnny and Merle for a long time. The original Outlaws. Let's never forget them.

  • Scruggs tuner on the low E...not a hipshot.

  • Magnificent!

    RIP Waylon.

  • waylon would have made a good president !!!

  • i agree this is awesome but i still love the new contemporary country made today

  • @spliffinit1 MMMMMnnnnnn, there are a few gems in the mix, Jamey Johnson for example! But most of today's country is luke warm, mindless dribble from talentless hacks! Taylor Swight couldn't caray a tune in a bucket!

  • i grew up on this music, the feeling it gives me in my heart when i hear the first few chords ahh words cannot explain how that feels ! music will never be as good as this again !

  • That Tellecaster goes straight through you at the end ,now one can play a Telle like Waylon Jennings.

  • whats that 7th knob on his head stock?

  • @lbblasingame It's called a Hipshot, and it drops the Low E string down a step to D

  • Waylon finishing this concert with this song, at the Opry, just think about it all for a second...... KING OF THE OUTLAWS...

  • Still the coolest guy ever RIP WAYLON

  • Intro sounds like the Clash were listening... compare it to "London Calling"!

  • Fuckin` great! Fuck that pop countryshit!!

  • @TPHBFAN Amen man need the outlaws that are left to rise up and have a good ole rail track run out of town of all this "Country" Posers

  • The 3 that dont like this song are queer pop country listeners of today .

  • enough already, why the heck do i keep getting this notice?

  • Comment Pending Approval!

  • @mohlercg whoop,whoop!

  • There's only one Waylon. Dale Watson is carrying the torch pretty well, but he'd be the first to tell you Waylon's still the king (not Bob Wills) :)

  • @ragester1 u tell em !! Waylon was it a guitar man , song writter , all around performer , outlaw and badass will ever c another like ol hoss ?? This Waylon fan says doubt it

  • Nobody is even close to Waylon, not even close, love Cash, Haggard, Paycheck, Hank, the Possum, but come on man, look at the overall talent Waylon had, not even close.

Waylon Hoss Jennings, Greatest of all time.

  • THE ORIGINAL AMERICAN BAD ASS!

  • three dislikes FTW!!!

  • Waylon's music is like a train running down the tracks wide open. Don't get in the way or you'll get ran over. AWESOME STUFF! Whoop! Whoop!

  • I got a telecaster getting covered with leather with the same pattern, with Waylon's flying W logo on the back, only in antiqued finish, instead of black n white. Got a custom engraved mesquite pickguard. Cant wait to get it all done.

  • love these vids .......... ba

  • Man this brings back memories when I was a child back in the mid eighties and went to my grandparents house for Xmas partys...my grandad would drink a lil whiskey then blast his Waylon 8 tracks...hes passed on by 11 years now, everytime I hear this it gives me chills...this is the only country I can listen too RIP Grandad and RIP Waylon

  • If you dont like Waylon Jennings you have a problem with yourself!!

  • How many of those leather covered telecasters did waylon have? :D

  • Ol Hank couldn't of done it that way even if he wanted to Go get em Waylon

  • nashville would'nt know country music if waylons guitar was stickin out of their ass!!!!

  • aknowneemus that was very eloquent and right on point.. Hell, the same goes with new disco music. The best tracks have been the underground labels for years..Not that you would listen to that but i like everything as long as it is good ;/ definitiely not hannah montana disgraced shit..

  • man he was so tore up on drugs, you seem him zoning out durring the end of the song? then he just says thank you very much and runs off the stage. hahaha

  • @icecream907 you might want to watch this again. His picking was top notch and I saw him walk off, not run.

  • Interesting first and last song choices that he picked for preforming at Grand Ole Opry; Are You Ready For The Country and Are You Sure Hank Done It this Way. Does anyone think he was making to a statement?

  • Country music died on Feb 13th 2002, its buried in Mesa Arizona, grave marker reads "Waylon Jennings June 15th 1937-Feb 13th 2002"

    Waylon Jennings, the real King...

  • @ragester1 And it was born today. Never was and never will be another Waylon. WAYLON FOREVER.

  • Tom Petty said it best; "Nowadays, country music sounds like a bad rock band with a fiddle."

    Long Live Waylon

  • My god whats the point of being alive without music like this! Go Waylon go!

  • u right jamey johnson knows whats up hayes carll and corb lund too lets bring back what country is all about and not just this nashville glam band pop bullshit

  • @hoss044 i come rock ,music nothing like this, but i agree this is when country had balls. this i respect . hell this is waylon.

  • Best Job in the World: playin' bass for Waylon Jennings. You could do it with two strings and four frets!

  • Starting at 2:23 NUFF SAID

  • Thank god for Jamey Johnson!!!!!!!! he is Keeping this music Alive Go Waylon MISS YA!!!!!!!!!!

  • @theonegreat2001 tired of this pop country bullshit. n tired of them gettin all the COUNTRY AWARDS for the cma's an all.. they should have their own category..

  • Wooooooooooo!! GET SOME!!!! ~~dancin' a jig~~

  • I wrote a song called "What would Hank Williams Say" a few years ago when I heard my first Big and Rich tune...you can go to my website to hear it if you like.

  • Music now would make Hank, Waylon, Buddy and John turn over and be very upset.

  • The music coming out of Nashville now is as pop as it was back in the 70's when Waylon, Willie, Tompall Glazer, Rusty Wier and others said "S**W You" to Nashville and started the outlaw country movement. I don't want to hear some 19 who has no idea what life is really like singing about their latest broken heart. I want to hear songs by and about real people who are living real lives.

  • @KS6stringer

I just couldn't let your comment go with just a 'thumbs up'. YOU ABSOLUTELY HIT THE PROVERBIAL ;NAIL ON IT'S HEAD ! ! ! !

  • @KS6stringer AMEN. And with REAL scars, and live or have lived the hard things they sing about. That's why I like Jamey Johnson. He's the closest thing today's country has to compare to Waylon.

  • my favorite waylon song god bless RIP

  • Man most people have no idea how HUGE this is, he is singing this as his last song of the concert at the Opry lol..

Kicking the Opry tradition right in the ass lol...

KING OF THE OUTLAWS. Waylon Jennings!

  • Waylon was a maestro, and he stomped on the terra. Thanks for posting this.

  • If you wanna hear music like this, you gotta look to independant labels.

if you think nashville is gonna put out music this good, you got another thing coming.

Today's nashville is pop music with a fiddle or steel guitar, with songs written by people who live in connecticut.

Waylon wrote songs based on what he saw everyday in the honky tonks, backroads and hotel rooms.

  • @aknowneemus You are right.I Live less than an hour from "music city' but i don't know what the hell they call music now days it all sounds the same like some type of disco and pop combination guess you can throw some sesamie street in there as well. The only thing i see going for country music now is Jamey Johnson and they treat him like he's the outcast when he's the only one of the new hats that i think does music for the right reasons not only for the $ but sings about whats real.

  • @aknowneemus Good words sir. Waylon is king. My first born son's name is after this good ol boy. :)

  • @aknowneemus Absolutely................and puttin' on a cowboy hat and posin' like an outlaw doesn't make you one!

  • @aknowneemus I agree whole heartedly. The closest we have now is Hank III, he's still a good ol' boy, just a little heavier

  • @aknowneemus

waylon the the best on the rez. Navajo rez that is

  • @aknowneemus You are so right about that!!! As ole possum said"Whos going to fill their shoes??

  • @aknowneemus You sure got that right. No such thing as good country like that put out by Waylon, Willie, Jerry Reed, Hank Jr. etc. in their heyday.

  • @aknowneemus I think jamey johnson is the exception to todays rule surrounded by watered down BS pop country

  • @aknowneemus U will never hear music like this!!!! The best of all times!!!! Love it!!!

  • @aknowneemus AMEN

    !

  • the next best thing is jamey johnson

  • @12122740

Jamey Johnson couldn't carry Waylon's guitar for him. Get real.

  • i said "THE NEXT BEST THING". i didn't say he is the best. waylon is was the best and now that he is gone i think jj is. he plays waylon songs that the younger people never heard of. don't take this the wrong way. i am a huge waylon fan and always will be.

  • nashville want let them do it tish way

  • why dont they make country music like this anymore???

  • Because Waylon Jennings was thee greatest country music singer to ever shit behind a pair of cowboy boots! And when ya loose the greatest, you cant fill there shoes...

Never are we going to hear greatness like this again, sad sad sad....

  • Simple............M-O-N-E-Y the thing that killed real country =(

  • lol money....and asshole artists like Taylor Swift that turned it in to pop more than country

  • Damn good question

  • Waylon by god Jennings was the king of country music.

  • this is one of my fav. song of all time, I was whatching a show about country music and he came up and they talked about this song and i only heard parts of it in that episode, so i went out and found it right away! I only wished i heard of him sooner... growing up, my parents were totally against country music being played it the house. Waylon is the man! Thanks again for the vid :D

  • You not kidding. Classic country at its best. Learned about him way too late in life.

  • This is how country music is supposed to sound. The no talent pop music hacks these days coming out of Nashville have about as much talent as one of Waylons turds. He should come back from the grave and put an ass whoopin on the next piece of crap from Nashville that says they got their country music influence from people like Waylon.

  • Imagine this, if he walked on stage today, played this song during the CMA awards LMAO, They would crap there pants lol..

He was sooooo far ahead of his time, to this day nobody can sound this good..

These so called country singers of today dont even play a damn insturment WTF!

  • My fav country singer til this day. I do like all the others Willie,Hank, etc...Great song thks for posting.

  • coolest country singer ever

  • Waylon is the best and always will be. Are you sure Hank done it this was is the greatest song ever. Live on always Waylon.

  • Anybody notice the machine head on

    Waylon's guitar?

  • Shit you cant even get a recording contract unless you look good. Nashville is nothing more than a raising pen for pop music.90% of the music sucks nowadays.

  • couldn't have said it better, contemporary country music is pop music

  • Comment removed

  • As I said before, Modern Country music isn"t the same as it was, Although I do not like today's modern artists. There is one thing I have come to realize, Music changes as time goes on, look at the Rock n Roll generation, what was once considered Rock n Roll in the 50s is not even close to the Rock n Roll of today I mean listen to stars like Bill Haley or Chuck Berry who were know as great Rock n Roll artists in their time, Then listen to one of today's Rock n Roll stars. it has all changed

  • Waylon Jennings, GREATEST OF ALL TIME!

If you folks like country, go pick up Jamey Johnsons album "that lonesome song"...He is a big time Waylon fan and on that album it shows....

  • smal talk hin ind her, WAYLON: KING of COUNTRY MUSIC for ever !!!

  • It's not the artists fault, it's the times! The America that Waylon lived in was still America! This pathetic, principless, poor excuse for America that excists today is not the same country! They keep the people slaves with new iphones, and escalades. People then, were happy with the simple things in Life, and the machine dare not try to take "their" freedoms! The end of a true area! How sad!

  • The 1970's? That was a superior time to the one we live in? Nixon said the exact same thing you did in the 60's explaining why there was a counterculture....

  • see you in next life my dear waylon! dutschi

  • As someone who had a Father who played in a True County music band . I agree with Sturla123, after the TRUE legends left us, no modern country artist has ever sang TRUE country ballads, or sang in true traditional country ways. This is what George Jones was talking about in his great song Who's Going To Fill Their Shoes. Today's Artists are OK and good at what they do, but to me and others who were raised with traditional country backgrounds Their music is not the same as Country music we knew

  • waylons solos are great

  • i hope country music goes back to its roots POP COUNTRY SUCKS

  • Classic!

  • Favorite......

  • hank III and shooter should do suttn to get the show back on the road cuz personally i feel they r country's only hope

tiz of the sweet land of libberty of this i sang!! cmon cmon boys do something!

  • I agree to bad they hate each other

  • Dang, they do? Why do they hate each other?

  • R u fuckin serious!?

    hadia know this?

  • Yeah Hank III said in an Interview that Shooter was a poser livin off his dad's name. I guess Shooter was playin in a Rock band then when Waylon died he got all country. I like em both but thats what I heard.

  • Both are posers. Hank III is the worst...I used to love the dudes music and still "like it" , but he has strange bedfellows I despise, so fuck him...Shooter is just a safe way to go on the other hand...

  • Hank III isn't worth a shit when it comes to country music.

Like Merle sang;"Are the good times really over?" Yeah, they are.

Country music died together with Waylon and Johnny.

The only real country singers we have left is Willie Nelson, and he's not singing to you anymore, he's talking.

Shooter Jennings is for sure a really good singer, but he isn't country.

"Garth Brooks did for country music, what pantyhouse did for fingerfucking." - Waylon Jennings

  • My comment was a reply to

    Waltzingtilly's comment.

  • Come to think of it....if you pulled head out of ass you'd realize that about everything

JR.s done since the early 80s has damaged the Williams. He is just like Willie. They do constant duets with people who wanna feel like outlaws. Kid Rocks on his dick constantly. And that yanks about as country as John Kerry. Waylon is a legend. Thats for sure. I'd go so far as to state that Hank Sr. is biggest musical hero. They both sang honest...but you need to hear Broke Lovesick and Drifting.

  • Jr hooked up with Kid Rock just to try and keep his own popularity in the public eye. I wish he had done it another day becaue no matter what kid Rock sings, he is not country. Hank Jr is a legend far and above anything Kid Rock can imagine. Hank 3 is a very good country singer, but Nashville wouldn't andwon't touch him because he IS country and not some pop idol wannabe. There are a few good country artists today, but not many. 3 is better than 90% of the ones playing today.

  • Agreed. It was a bad move. Kid Rock is alright in the context of rock...if you can move past that he only writes 2 types of song and they pretty much sound the same from song to song. Hank Jr. did not have to do that. He wrote classics like The Bluesman. I mean he was beyond legendary. Had actually defeated being in Sr.'s shadow, not that there's any shame in being compared to the Greatest. Hank 3 won't play those games. He's HONEST. Not a prefabbed clone w/ model good looks off of Music Row.

  • It should be said now, that Sturla123 is from Europe and in all honesty to the debate with him.....he wouldn't understand certain things like country and authenticity because well he's not from the area that this music comes from. I live in Oklahoma and can say that its a part of our lives here. Country music is our poetry. What Trashville has done is tarnish it by polishing it up and cleaning it real good for the local Wal Mart cd section and CMT(CUNT-ryModelsTelevision)

  • I Love the country of yesterday. Todays sound has traded sincerity for dollar signs. That said...don't discount Brad Paisely. He can pick like Chet and humor you like George Jones in his prime. As for Hank 3.....seen him live 3 times. He is one the God honest nicest gents you'd ever meet after a show. His country sets are reaally country. He shows respect during shows by doing covers of the people who made the music what it is. in fact, The Damned Band play a real straight classic country.

  • If you like Hank III's music, then you can get the hell away and don't bring shame over the proud Jennings' family. I DO respect Obama, I DO respect Kris Kristofferson, I DO respect people with different views, but I don't, and I'll never, ever respect that piece of shit named Hank III. HE is a poser and do everything to get in media. He isn't anything more than a shit-bag, and he bring shame over the other two, GREAT Willams'es.

    Keep it COUNTRY,

    Sturla

  • Ummm...Ma'am....what in the heck does Obama and Kris have to do with Hank. My point is this. Music is subjective. With that said unless you've been to a Hank show you'll never get it. Outside of style...I'd say that there are few differences between Hank 3 & Waylon. I'll catch shit for it but oh well. In his prime Waylon was a hell raising anti-corporate drug abusing country outlaw. In his time now...Hanks the same thing. In fact Hank is railing against Trashville the same way Waylon did here.

  • Well, I deeply disagree with you about one thing here. Waylon is a way different person than Hank III. Hank III is just a teenager that wants publicity, Waylon didn't care about that stuff. He would sing his songs in his way, not effected by what other people thought about him. When Hank III just gives Shooter a kick in the ass because he wants to step in his fathers footsteps, that's just wrong. What person in this world have played more on his father, and not to mention grandfather?

  • I hope you know of Course I'd in no way want to insult Waylon. Trust me. I have his music on this thing called vinyl. But Hank 3 is actually in his mid 30s. Hank for years HATED Jr. Its changed in recent years. He talks alot about Sr. But its always with pride. He has a sense of history. The point he usually makes is that its BS the way the industry has treated the legends like his Grandpa. The way the Opry kicked him out but still has an impersonator at the door. BUt he's his own man musically.

  • Waylon will always be known as the ass-kickin-ist in Country Music. And Bakersfield's own Ralph Mooney - that great steel man - sho as hell helped Waylon get to where he got!

  • Damn right...great song

  • If theres one thing you yanks get right its your country music don't stop now

  • You do realize that the majority of people who play country music are not "Yanks" or "Yankees"? That is what Southerners call Northerners. It would be like calling an Irish person a Limey. I know that "Yank" is the term that British and Aussie people call all Americans, but it is ignorant to call all Americans that and doesn't give you much ground to stand on when you complain that Americans are ignorant of geo-politcal history.

  • What!!! yanks is yanks wogs are wogs poms are poms Waylon Jennings was one of the best Yank, Pom, Aussie whatever

  • True Waylon is one of the best, but a Yankee he is not. To me it doesn't matter, I'm just telling you that it makes you all look ignorant to call a Southerner a Yank. It just makes me laugh. Did you ever hear of something called the American civil war?

  • Hell, I've been called a "Yank" by a few "Limey's" and I'm Canadian!

  • As good as it gets.

  • Waylon said in his book that he scribbled this song, while driving his Caddy in Nashville. Awesome inspiration!

  • I first heard this song on what was then "underground" rock station 107 FM (Orlando). I'm sure it was played on local country stations, too, but back then I wasn't listening to those.

Rock stations used to play Outlaw Country and Southern Rock (when country stations wouldn't) but today most of them focus on classic rock. Meaning we can listen to satellite radio and youtube, or else we can forget it. I for one can't and won't forget it. Thank you for sharing these Best from THE BEST videos!

  • Every Sunday morning my brother and I grew up on this, gravy and bisquits eggs and bacon. Waylon was is and always will be a huge part of me. Here's to ya Hoss.

  • hell yea listen to ol' Ralph play that steel

  • I wish Waylon was alive today to shove the lyrics of this great song down the throats of every other cookie-cutter dork currently flushing country music right down the toilet!

WAYLON JENNINGS IS THE READ DEAL and the rest of you are a bunch of puppets and clones manufactured by the Nashville Bullshit Machine...

Sincerely: a 32 year old Waylon fan
