YTV used to be so creative back then, now its just a computer animated kid who claps his hands and the contents within his closet burst out and the YTV logo is sitting atop the pile...woo
Thanks for posting this. I was in the YTV kids club around this time (1990 to about 1992) I think the club started the same year. They'd send you a cool initiation package with lots of cool stuff. I remember getting a bunch of iron ons. They'd send you a newsletter every month and on your birthday the old VJ's announce your name on T.V. and send you a present (8 pack of neon crayola markers). This was when, as repeatedly stated, YTV was more teen or pre-teen oriented (better).
Would they also send you pogs of the wierd YTV logos like the blender, the chair and the YTV globe? If so then I beleive my brother was in the club. Heh I was a little jelous of him.
YTV Now seems to be the premise of slapping on whatever shows are popular. It didn't used to be that way back in the day. Back in the day there were a little less anal about the popularity of a show and a little more anal about what kids are used to watching.
I so totally remember this logo and theme.. I loved it!! It played right before they showed "You can't do that on Television"!! *dances up and down* :D
if only they actually dumped the whole "hi tech" approach ytv keeps trying to persue, just go back to "wierd and wacky" like it was in the 90's, i loved those logo's back then.
This logo is from when YTV first started back on September 1, 1988. It says "the spirit of YOUTH" in the corner. I was 12 and I found that slogan to be true then as the years went on and the station changed hands from GRC to Shaw Entertainment and now to Corus Entertainment it's%
This is what I miss the most about YTV. The station that as young as you are. Shit now it's just deteriorated too much for me to even bother watching it anymore.
All Canadian television is "broken" the Canadian Television Fund is spread too thin among too many satellite-cable channels. There needs to be lots of channel mergers (not less owners).
I believe those were the 2 general idents used through 1988-1992, before they used a new logo. I always wondered what that slogan actually said on the corner, plus I never realized they had a 'lens' incorporated in the 3D logo.
there were 3 idents officially that season - this one, and 2 daytime ones featuring different cloudscape backgrounds and a slight variation on the music. During primetime they would overdub a video compilation saying what's coming up next, and then after that. As I recall, that was the first time I'd seen a TV station do that.

I don't even bother with YTV anymore. Telethon Retro has the old cartoons and stuff and Family has the movies.
wishingstar22 3 years ago
I think you mean "Teletoon Retro" don't you? I've been bugging my mother to get Teletoon Retro for a bit now and we still don't get it.

Oh, of course. lol My typing skills leave something to be desired.

1990 - this was the first time I ever saw YTV.
Early 1990's YTV was truly the spirit of youth as the programming was always never afraid to be what it wanted.
Now, I just don't know anymore.

I used to love YTV. The execs at the time aired the stuff that I used to watch as a tiny tot. Now YTV is over 1/3 of what it used to be.

i only remember the music

Now I've figured out what Nickelodeon and YTV have in common, they both used a circle as their logo!

BTW, SHAW owns Corus. One and the same. They also own Star Choice DBS satellite.

Well then why did they change the format of the channel when what they had was working? That makes no sense to me.

The first one if I remember, had a light blue background and the logo was zoomed out on.

the music is still 80's sounding though
ducky1232 5 years ago
Pretty much everything still felt like the 80's between 1990-92!

Well, this is one of the idents used from 1990-1992. There is also one that was used during the day as well, in daylight colors.
RonicW 5 years ago
I think I vaguely remember the "daylight" version.
