There seems to be a lot of talk here about salaries. I don't see in want way that is related to this video showing a never-ending border control. Rather than comparing salaries, you would do better to compare border controls. Time is money and this woman is wasting your time. US and Canada are no different from Belgium and the Netherlands. It takes less than 1 second to cross the Belgian-Dutch border. So, why does it take several days to cross the Canadian-US one?.
@TheEurozhongguo We started talking about salaries because somebody asked why any European would be in North America since, according to them, you get better paid in Europe. That's not true, and that's why the conversation started. And yes, I really admire how easily you can go from country to country in Europe, as opposed to North America. I'd really love it if the U.S. and Canada were as seamlessly integrated as European countries are.
I'm done with this, I have a job in Canada and you were under qualified. I love the weather in Canada only the strong can survive such a climate. And once again MY POST WAS A JOKE!!!!! If your so smart you will move on but I know I will see a reply from you soon.
I really don't care about you not finding a job, the facts don't lie. Our dollar is above par and we have the most stable banks Plus my post was a joke anyways, sorry you were under qualified in Canada enjoy the states, I'll keep my socialized system any day, no going broke over trying to stay healthy.
@mcaddicts You don't get it do you? look kid when u grow older u get to know the world better...btw, enjoy your lovely weather! ps i live in CH not in the US I reckon u still can't differentiate btwn the 2...you have the best economy in the world and trust me your envied by all the rich countries that are ahead of you; keep watching CBC news channel...u get the drift! ;-)
Canada has a lower unemployment rate than the US so yeah might want to do some research before posting. Another youtube idiot posting shit that is far from the truth.
@mcaddicts now I know that you are a confirmed idiot. Emotions & national pride aside, your unemployment stands 8.6% & US's at 9.6%. You know what this means? in a 300 million nation we look at 9.6% & 8.6% in a 30 million nation. It means that the US is way more opportunities & flexibility as regards the job market. For simplistic purposes, we're looking at a ratio of 1:10. When I was in Montreal, I met many Moroccans who were highly qualified (qc) immigration policy allows them to move to CA
@mcaddicts for the sake of finding jobs. Unfortunately, Canada's economy was not designed to absorb such a large number of qualified folk! They ended up going back to Morocco or heading down to the US where it seldom took longer than a month to find jobs. Your economy sucks! you also must factor in all the natural resources you are endowed with, you're a net exporter in energy with the world's 2nd largest oil reserves after SAUDI ARABIA!! yet your economy isn't as flexible as it should be...
How much longer will Alaska be American, they will have to sell it soon to pay off the 3 trillion dollar debt, should not have given a trillion dollars to Cuba.
Look Canuck, I lived in your Canada, and let me tell ya I'll take the US anyday over ur country! the only real good your economy produces is unemployment. How many qualified folk sit out of work in Canada? you're lucky they can flock to the US for jobs or else they'd drain your welfare state! Canada's failed experiment!
why do they ask what kind of work they do? Do they think European people are going to stay illegal in Alaska (usa)? In Europe you are get better paid then in the US.
@ReadeRomke "In Europe you are get better paid then in the US. "
Really? Good for you. Actually no. Adjusted to the cost of living the US GDP Per Capita is about 45% higher than that of the European Union, and the median household income (again, adjusted to purchasing power parity) is much, much higher in the US, especially in Alaska which is one of the richest states.
Being from the Netherlands I'm not surprised you're full of misconceptions about America. Get your facts straight.
@AlvinHDavernport Im swiss/Americcan, and have lived in all countries involved in this video. I lived in the US, Belgium, and Canada. In all 3, Canada has the lowest standard of living. I work in the banking industry and I know my stuff. The difference btwn the 3 and my home country Switzerland is:
you get paid better in Europe, but you're hit with some crazy expenses! at the end of the month you have no money to buy an ipod. Something a 15 year old student in the US can easily afford...
Even though you get paid less in the US, your salary is a lot more flexible! Everything's cheaper in the US, which makes it affordable to the folk. Big mac for example in Switzerland is about $12 -the meal. I bought it in the US for $5.50 I think. Things here in Europe are so expensive, even when your salary than that in the US...Just ask any European how many times they eat beef a month lol
@Lejoker85 Well said, my friend. According to the OECD, the US has the world's highest *real* salaries. Average US salaries in 2008 were $50,800, and the second-highest were in Luxembourg, $49,260. Switzerland was $47,200. All other EU countries were below $45,000, a significant difference. That's why all you say is so true--you can't compare nominal wages if you are not taking into account expenses. Even though nominal salaries may be higher in EU, true salaries are higher in the US :)
@AlvinHDavernport Yep thanks. I work for a major Swiss bank and I work with real data not some wikipedia bullshit that these lads often quote and end up misquoting the idiot that posted the article onto wikipedia...
E.g in Switz. a toilet cleaner earns about $20-25 per hour, but if we factor in rent for an area like mine, you're looking at $2,000 minimum for some not so good looking apartment. Insurance (only private in SWI) is never less than $300-400 a month. Food's very expensive!
@Lejoker85 So I've heard! It's also true that taxes typically eat down a larger fraction of your income in Europe than stateside. I'd like to see statistics on how net disposable incomes (adjusted to cost of living, of course) compare when you look at the two continents. I wouldn't be surprised if America's were 20 to 25% higher. Hey, our country is not perfect. Our gov't does not provide half as many services as they do in Europe. But one thing can't be denied, life is pretty cheap in here!
In a nutshell, you live better when u afford more, and in the US you do afford more than Canada and Europe. I come to think it as 2 persons who earn 60k each, but one lives in NYC and the other in Alabama. Who's net disposable income stretches farther? who enjoys greater living space? cheaper health costs? etc but again Europe isn't a single country, living standards in France aren't the same in Greece, or in say Norway...
@AlvinHDavernport in Switz. disposable incomes are higher than in the US. We enjoy lower taxes -lower than the US's but depending on the Canton. Adjusted to PPP, it's completely a different story. I'll give u an example using U$D: for a bus ride we pay $4, in the US u'd pay $2.50 and so on and so forth. Everything you have in the US is significantly cheaper than here, including accomodation, food, AND GASOLINE. Consequently, this lifts up ur standard of living
@AlvinHDavernport TRUE. however the Europeans in general have social security and health care almost for free paid from their taxes as well as from extra tax payable by employers unlike the US without the standards the Europeans know. It means in almost all European countries the employers pay extra 10-20% on the top of the salary to the taxman. Add 15% and you'll find the employer in Luxembourg has to pay $56,649, $49,260 to the employee and $7,389 on the top to the government :)
@czechguy78 Mind the fact that OECD figures are overall annual earnings (so whatever 10-20% you're talking about is included there) BEFORE taxes, so actually net salaries are even higher in the U.S. with respect to Europe. Also, mind the fact that government-provided services are not free. Somebody's paying for them, and that somebody is you. I'm not trying to prove that we're better here. Just that the myth that European households are more affluent is unfounded and false.
borders and walls are coming down all over the world but guess what America is putting up walls, and making things really hard to come in.Protectionism will fail. What are you afraid of?
