  • familier is colloquial, like you are talking with a friend or a child, someone younger than you, or your parents with less formal way of speech.

    it's like:

    FORMAL vs. STANDARD vs. INFORMAL

    or

    PRESIDENT vs. TEACHER vs. BROTHER

    Yet standard can be used within informal situation but not the opposite or else it might be considered awkard depending of whom you're talking to.

    Definitely, formal stays with itself.
