Yeah, very nice arrangement by the very under-rated Andy Connell, superb keyboard player and arranger, from the lovely Swing Out Sister. Trademark chords on the harpsichord
Remember the version on Jools Holland when he sang it from inside a barrel, revealing pictures of wildlife by drilling through it? Or did I dream that? No, I didn't.
Really good song and he sang it well, really like the bit from 1.20 in with the stay free bit onwards etc. The song done pretty well in the UK charts from what I remember.
Nice one - have this single (which I bought in a moment of weakness when it charted in 1991) Vic Reeves & The Roman Numerals (who I assume are the two ladies in the red PVC)
I always look for this in HQ mp3, what a memorable version!

I still have the single CD of the song I found at Oxfam Kensington Street, that cost 10p.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
It took a long time for the Great British public to wake up to just how cack R&M are and it took the truly dire "Catterick" to show us.
Pretty much everything they did was even-ropier than Milligan at his ropiest, with the honourable exception of "Shooting Stars."
Tried to watch "The Smell of Reeves & Mortimer" on G.O.L.D the other night, but failed.
"Reeves & Mortimer": a eupehemism for "shit" in my own personal lexicon.
As in, "I've had two Reeves & Mortimers already today."

Reeves is a brilliant entertainer (along with Mortimer)- remember the big night out gigs fondly before I left blighty in '93.

This is brilliant, it's a great song, and Jim's voice and odd little dances made it ten times better. A classic! ^_^

It always struck me as a sort of cross between Matt Monroe and Mark.E.Smith. And actually, a rather excellent performance.
