It's not because of 'WHO' they are it's because of 'WHAT' they are. Who they are i them as a person...their personality, attitudes, etc. Hate and kill people who are not what colour you think they should be hate and kill people missing limbs, hate and kill people who have shaved heads......see how pointless? FEAR...is all this is about.
IF it doesn't "feel right" it probably isn't genuine. Is it enough that HRC is at least making an attempt to be more tolerant and inclusive? I don't know, but if a platform is presented we should use it to our advantage. (Special note to Diane, London and Carol : namaste)
I'M KEEPING A CANDLE LIGHT VIGIL ON MY WINDOWSILL. ================================================= IN THIS TROUBLE AND DARKEN WORLD OF OUR'S; I'M KEEPING A CANDLE LIGHT VIGIL BURNING ON MY WINDOWSILL TONIGHT, FOR ALL OF THE FALLEN ONE'S EVERYWHERE; THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER ONE LIKE YOU EVER AGAIN, AND MY HEART IS IN AGONY OVER ALL OF MY BROTHERS AND MY SISTERS; WHO HAD DIE OF HATRED AND VIOLENT DEATH, I'M GONNA LIGHT A CANDLE FOR THIS TROUBLE AND
I used to appreciate that HRC seems to TRY to be inclusive, and would like to give them merit. But I'm continuously saddened of just that - they 'try', but don't follow thru when it matters. So these type 'statements' send up red flags. In the end, HRC shows their true transphobic nature. I can no longer trust their apparitions of 'support'. It feels like a facade and an attempt to regain political face. They got scolded by more than just the 'freaks' last time, so again they appear to kowtow.
I want my life to mean so much more than I ever thought it could! If I died for being trans at least I'd be a martyr for a cause, people should not have to sacrifice themselves for others to learn compassion though. This broke my heart & made me wanna cry, & I'm relatively emotionless lately. As we draw near my first TDOR as a new initiate of the FTM community [started Testosterone 11 weeks ago] I will always stand up & claim who I am because I am SO PROUD to finally own my own right to be happy
@iradgray I'm calling you to task, because, as of the speakers mentioned with the guy who was refused medical treatment, it's not all murders. The root of these deaths is discrimination and hatred, but that takes more forms than shooting someone dead. There's nothing fake about it.
@jrnelswm - I think iradgray is talking about hrc's fake b.s., how they're acting like they care, but willing to drop them in the gutter when politics get hot, behaviour on the same level as with the murderers and ignorant neglectful maleficent medical practitioners.
@jrnelswm when people die at the hands of discrimination, it's murder. you don't need a gun. there's nothing fake about discrimination and hate. i didn't say that. you may not know this, but i'm transgender. the "advocacy" from hrc on behalf of trans-persons is incredibly fake.
WHAAAAAT?! died from cancer after being refused treatment from twenty doctors?! that can't be allowed?!?! if that happened here in Norway, each of those doctors would have been tossed in jail for murder, a doctor can't refuse to save someones life! what kind of laws do you have over there?!
You are NOT our allies!! You gladly dropped the "T" in GLBT in the fight for the ENDA amendment because YOU thought WE would be too much of a burden and not allow it to get passed. You protected the rights of gays and lesbians at the expense of US, the trans people.
@collegestudent4peace Maybe we can see this as a start for them to reunite with us and help us. Yes, they did let us down numerous times in the past, but that is no reason to give up hope for a future. A new generation is moving in, and so perhaps there is more hope for them to help us in this fight now.
Is it wrong to try to get protection for some? ENDA is incomplete and they understood that when it was passed. But isn't it better to get something passed and keep fighting? As someone on both the L and T parts, I say it is progress. It would be hypocritical to call the battle over, but I think it is better that something got passed than nothing at all.
lets stop the discrimination and hate within our selves accept people for they are not for what they are let there be love in the world not hate let there be friends not enemies let there be freedom for all people and stop voting on peoples natural rights.
Not to be totally inappropriate, but the one who introduced Frederica Martinez, and then after named the hrc website at the end is REALLY HOT. Like, REALLY, REALLY, hot.
Also, it's always good to stand up if you see any form of anti LGBT harassment.
Ok this is great that the HRC put this out there, but there needs to be alot more than just 1:19 of a youtube video. Stop silencing us HRC, you will never represent me!!!!!

Pfft.........like there isn't hate all over the place. It doesn't matter what your sexuality or race is, people will hate you, just through being idiots and followers.
How many hetero guys with long hair get "hate" from random dipshits driving by. How many bald white guys get classified as skinheads? How many black dudes who wear suits get called "uncle toms"? I'd love to care, but its not like gays and lesbians have worse experiences then others.
omg this is soooo sad i was crying. i feel sick to know that there are ppl out there like that. my gf (who is not Transgender just gay) was walking and some boys who were driveingby throw glass bottles at her. and yelled were going to rep u and ur gf next time. its soooo sad.
I was glad to know that HR.1913 PASSED the US House. Please SUPPORT S.909 that is coming up this month of May 2009, introduced by no other than the wonderful Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) Send an e-mail and send a phone call to YOUR Congressperson to SUPPORT this Civil Rights bill to give Federal assistance to States when dealing with hate crime issues. Vote YES on S.909!!
Its evil to kill them thats just wrong u cant kill people because they have a mental disorder thats wrong its in the DMV files its not their fault neither is it the fault of people who practice zoophile because they dont have a choice they are placed in the DMV files of mental illnesses. this is wrong killing innocent people i feel sick to my stomach we must love people wether they are disabled or not. Spread the love.
Hate crimes legislation is a top priority This begin to break the back of hate filled religious groups who sell their christian love, which is really hate if you don';t kiss their ass.
Of course, their lives and fairy tales have given these people money and even more important power . Sieg Heil says it perfectly for them. The only difference is their love lie. If they were running nazi germany, they would have just given the jews the opportunity to convert, or else die. Nice people
Because they are born that way. And entitled to liberty and justice for all, like all other people.
And part of that liberty and justice includes being free of religious beliefs they do not agree with, totally.
I hope you will come around to realize that gay people are really good people, and entitled to the legal rights of marriage under our civil laws. What your church wants to do re marriage is their business, but if they infringe on other peoples rights, that is our business to stop.
Believe me, I think what HRC did was wrong. However, as a LGBT ally and a strong supporter of transgender rights I have to say that HRC has done good things for members of the LGBT community, Although this move was a devastating blow, LGB people also need a voice. One step at a time. I want protection for transgender people more than most people I know. Make a statement about your anger, but don't completely disregard the other good work that has been done.
Pretty: Well before the ENDA debacle, HRC had a long, sordid history of selling out and dismissing trans people and their struggle. If you don't reference this (and there are ample sources to find out about it on the Internet... read pieces by Ethan St. Pierre or Vanessa Edwards Foster) you're giving an incomplete view of what the HRC has, in reality, done. Needless to say, transpeople have been very patient with HRC and have been slapped in the face time and again. ENDA was the final straw.
I think that was a political / real politic decision. I do see that as gays are making advances, the so called christians, whose hatred - not the so called love they claim it to be - is now moving to the Trans people. And in general, the nation is rejecting their christian crapo.
America will become more like Europe - church attendance is minimal. Theshame is it is taking so long, and so many have suffered, in the name of a god of corruption. And the total brainwashing by the churches.

So the fact that i dont agree with ur life style and i choose to be christian means i hate u, u see thats just part of the gay agenda to make xtians look evil, they twist the words and dont want to hear anything unless it agrees with them. U say the church is brainwashing people yet there are gay churches out there which makes me wonder how they read the bible. Xtians are only sticking to the bible apart from the extremists most xtian dont hate gays they just dont think they have to support the
"sguardian870" There's always one.... always one punk prick that wants to jiz his dogma, fucked little thoughts all over this video. Completely disregarding and showing contempt to the people that are and were brutally murdered every year because of their identity.

at of sex they carryout, its like a prostitute, if xtian said dont sleep around and sell ur body does that mean they hate her, if they say i dont have a problem with u but with an act u choose to carryout. no1 on earth agree with the next person 100% so xtians dont agree with gays on the sex issue. And if they are asked to vote they will vote accordig to their beliefs in the bible and the bible does state it clearly. And u can diss it and call it stone age well thats what xtians believe.
@bobby472 Correct. Nobodys beliefs have the right to trump anothers freedom - and the people that think they do are mentally ill and need to see a doctor. Beliefs, which are supported by no evidence, dont have any right to claim moral jurisdiction over my experience.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
finally the minute something goes wrong with the gay agenda, they assume xtians were behind it and when they cant blame xtians they blame blacks.look at cali there are more aithiest there than xtians and half the people who vote and u call xtians havent been to church since they were 10, yet somehow xtians take the blame. Today they are evil ppl. The funny thing is gays scream tolerance, yet when it comes down to it they r more intolerant than any one else, e.g perez hilton. And ppl i meet.
then probably u have been looking only to correct the ppl u meet, i for one dont mind religion, i am atheist but religion is a chose, it should not interfere with my rights as a human being. if there is a god, he has corrupted his followers to do his wrong doings, i'm sure you believe the bible and thats great but a book does not tell me what is right and wrong. humanity is what tells me. aslong as xtians say it is wrong to marry the man i love, xtians will always have the blame for it.
I can't believe they took down the video responses. its one thing to write on here but those that put there voice and face on video to say HRC you dropped the ball deserve to be herd. removing those video only point to your guilt. next you will stop comments altogether
Please visit my channel progay and see some educational videos on lgbt rights in the Philippines, leave nice comments for each video and tell your friends to watch and comment, too! Thank you very much!
Take a hike, HRC. Go co-opt dead people for your worthless donations elsewhere. WE DID TRY TO FIGHT FOR HATE CRIMES LEGISLATION, YOU ASSHOLES. Problem was, we were fighting *you*.
I don't understand this: You don't support transgendered people. You excluded us from an employment non-discrimination act (which in turn allows employers to turn us down based on our position), and you also excluded us from the campaign to broaden the term "hate crime". Seriously, fuck you.
I am a big time transgender supporter though and have helped many of my friends through their transitions, at one point I felt like
I wanted to change as well, but I realized I was comfortable being a female as the years went on. I am in full admiration of those of you who had the courage to do what was right for them because no one else can tell you what is right for you.
I wish you were given the same rights that all of the rest of us were, and I do hope that all of this changes soon.
Well I agree with all of you the way they have cut transgenders out, but at the same time, they may genuinely feel for what has happened to so many of you and that is why they have made this. They do not have the power at this point in time to change it, but maybe they are trying to make up for it. I would like to believe that is the cause of this video, but sadly it might not be the reason why.
HRC, once you've lost your credibility, it's hard to get it back, and you have lost your credibility. Videos such as this one will not help you, but only hurt you worse. You know what it takes to get your credibility back, dismiss Joe Solomonese, press for a trans inclusive ENDA, apologize for past betrayals, pledge to change, back your words with actions. Otherwise, STEP OFF!
Gays Lesbians Bi's and Transgenders if you give your money and support to HRC you are very foolish. HRC is for HRC. And they are not what the LGBT should mean at all.
HRC how can could dare make this video???? You bunch of lying hypocrites. HRC you sold us out so you could get ENDA passed for gays lesbians and bi's... This after telling us for years it was all or none! You creeps are all about money and your stinking numbers. Take our fucking T out of the mix already we hate what you stand for!!!! HRC you are a bunch of back stabbing cowards!!!
Notice how they deleted the video responses -- they ALL were against HRC "sponsoring" a
HRC: It's bad there are so many women who have to die selling themselves on the streets. Gee, if only there were some sort of *legislation* that you could be sponsoring to help transpeople.
dear HRC as your have nowhere to comment on your site, i will ask here, you have made a video for TDOR thank you , can you now make a video explaining why when it comes to the crunch you drop support for trans people when it counts. as you can see here, there are lots of T people who would like to know the reasoning behind this, is there a reason or are you just embarrassed of us ???
They're ashamed of us. We're not a priority for them (obviously).
I still get asked to donate, and instead I donate to orgs that really care like Lambda Legal and Transgender Law Center. I also donate to low-cost medical centers that treat TG/TS people like Lyon Martin in San Francisco (they treated me for free when I needed it).
E: Not everyone is disrespectful to those individuals actually trying to help, but HRC as an organization does not particularly care about transpeople.
If Gay men were dropped from HRC's priority list, most gay men would stop supporting them. With that being the case, I don't see why it is so surprising that most transpeople don't support HRC anymore.
Love the video; feel run over by the bus HRC pushed transpeople beneath.
I don't hate HRC, but they need to change policy direction and admit that they lied, admit that they abandoned transpeople, and stop asking for OUR support or money until they prove they can support us.
HRC using OUR TDoR for their publicity is disgusting.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Going against HRC isn't the right answer. If you feel they're not using their money wisely, then write them a letter, not by putting some comment on youtube.
Wow, you totally missed my point. I believe my point was clear.
It's not about money, it's about policy, about action, and about using the trans community shamelessly while refusing to support us substantively. My comment is about HRC's use of OUR TDoR to make themselves look good while devaluing the concept of TDoR and the trans community by their actions.
You called them Hypocrites Raising Cash so obviously it is about money. And being transexual myself I didn't miss any part of your point. I understand that they have had to make compromises working with Congress because there's still a lot of ignorant assholes out there - and ignorant assholes elect ignorant assholes into office so we have to deal with them. We should look optimistically forward with this new stronger Congress that will help us in our fight. We also have to be more vocal.
It's about HRC's hypocrisy. The Raising Cash just fit really well with the initials and the organization.
These compromises of which you speak: why do they almost always involve us? Why did Solmonese make THE speech at Southern Comfort if they had this strategy in their back pocket (or somewhere thereabouts).
HRC has abrogated their trans goals and abdicated the role of representative for the trans community. Let's support PFLAG, Lambda Legal, NCTE, TLC, and other true allies.
I am a gay man and I completely agree with you. I used to support the HRC, I even attended the National Dinner in DC twice. Unless they change their ways, they will never get another dime of my money. It's time stop blindly electing democrats who make empty promises, and start backing people who truly care about our community as a whole.
Why should we be expendable? In my state there are no laws protecting my rights as a trans person. I've repeatedly been denied jobs based solely on the fact that I'm trans. There isn't a thing I can do about it, because it's completely legal here. I have no job, I am only surviving on what little money I can make. I only have a place to live because I got lucky and my family didn't disown me. That bill would have given me what I need, a steady job to pay for my transition. That is why I am anrgy
Regardless of whether or not it would have passed the Senate, Bush had already stated that he would veto it no questions asked, and there is no way that ENDA could have gotten a veto proof majority; with or without the T.
I just have to wonder why it's always the T that gets dropped for the sake of "protection for most of us"? You can bet that if HRC had tried to drop gay men that they wouldn't be taking it laying down either.
Progress will come, it is too bad it is at the T's expense.
I watch many of you videos and just want to thank you so much for what you do all us sisters and transmen as well.
Your post here is short but one of the best... But You response video to HRC kicks ass girlfriend. You are a wonderful asset to the transgender community and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Smiles, Coletta Proud Tgirl`~^..^
I'm not trying to win your heart over. You were smug, you were insulting. I don't care about your opinion. You made the assumption that alot us do nothin for our community. That alot of us just sit on our duff and bitch. YOu pissed me off. The only regret I have over my post is that I stooped to your level. Look at your post that I had repsonded to. In what way was it meant to be taken if not to insult? Like I said you were rude. I apoligise to anyone that was offended. Everyone but you.
I'm not going to be as nice as Grishno was with my repsonse. FUCK YOU. Fuck you for not knowing about all the hard work that alot of us ARE DOING for the community while you accuse us of doing nothing. FUCK YOU for insuating that we don't have a right to take offense of so rich assholes who use our community's SACRED days to make profits for their organization when they've done almost nothing for the transgendered but exclude them. One more thing too. Just plain FUCK YOU for being an asshole.
Did I forget to mention FUCK YOU? I probably didn't forget but what the hell. FUCK YOU eatthosepeanuts. No really, you should feel ashamed for what you wrote because from your post that one would presume that you're obiously a smug asshole so once again FUCK YOU.
Ummmm hi, Im a gay male and I thought I supported the HRC. But looking down through the comments I was shocked to see so many transgendered people leaving angry comments. Sorry if I sound ignorant but did the HRC do something bad to transgendered people or something? If a transgendered person(or anyone who knows) could please tell me what the HRC did I would appreciate it very much : )
It all started when with the ENDA bill. Originally they were claiming that we would not be out of the bill. We would be covered as well. Then within the very week that they made these promises they wrote us out of the bill with a lame excuse that it would have never passed with us in it. This is just one of a list of many times the HRC have snubbed the transgender community. They only take our cause when it's convenient to their image. Most of the time we're expendable to them.
Hello :) Basically the HRC (through Barney Frank) lobbied to have transgendered protection TAKEN OUT of Employment Non-Discrimination Act. He thoroughly convinced congress that it would never pass with transgendered inclusion even though it was largely a symbolic vote anyways (Bush stated he would veto it's passage trans or not.) Now they are making videos like this to try and win back support when they are obviously using the transgendered community to drum up funding.
HRC sold out TG's to pass ENDA after telling us that it was all or none. Now they are trying to make money off Our "National Transgender Day of Remembrance" This is why we are so upset. HRC needs to stop making fake TG videos period.
you can't say you support lgbt rights and then drop the t every once in a while. do you know how pissed people would be if you dropped the l or the g or the b. why is the t so expendable?
Ok, this is a really really really really honest question:
I've noticed that a lot of my lgbt activist friends are against the HRC going as far to protest it openly. It's my understanding that the HRC is seen as an irresponsible lgbt group because it primarily protects white male homosexuals. I can see where that would be bad but... could we just not protest them? Some how it doesn't seem right to me to do so. After all, it isn't us against them, it's lgbt against the intolerant. Right?
It IS the LGBT against the intolerant... unfortunately when our supposed allies (HRC in specific) advocate against a trans inclusive ENDA they start to fall into the intolerant category.
I agree that infighting in the LGBT community is not the best way to get things done... but i refuse to accept the HRC making a video to commemorate TDoR after what they did.
Thank for that. I think I'm starting to understand the issue but it's still kind of confusing.
I'm transgender myself and trying to figure where I stand on this issue because a lot of my friend don't like and have protested the HRC, but I am just starting to understand what's going on.
FUCK YOU HRC. As a trans person, I would NEVER listen to you. You screw trans people over. You are trying to cover your asses for your all your transphobic actions. Too bad we all see through you.
I speechless " WE SURPORT YOU " unless it mean we wont get bills past to cover are selves, then we are just embarassing cousins were the video say were sorry for dropping the T when it siuts us .
ONE negative thing? Is that the 1 taking us out of the bill 30 years ago or 2 excluding Sylvia Rivera Pride events or 3 not advocating for trans inclusion in ENDA till 2005 or 4 advocating *against* it last year? Or 5 not including any kind of gender-non-conformity info in their transgender workplace pamphlets? Or 6 using white trans sock puppets to scuttle *anyone else* doing trans activism in Congress, or 7 creating rival state LGBT organizations when one was too kink friendly?
I was at the Boston HRC Gala protest. I got a big middle finger from an attendee walking by in a tuxedo, all the while holding my "LGBT, the T is not silent!" sign. The Boston trans and ally community came together last night for our TDOR vigil, and we read the names of the dead out loud on the spot where the vigil in honor of Rita Hester was held 10 years ago, b/c we are not silent! We will not forget!
Hey HRC how about practicing what you preach and actually supporting an EDNA bill with trans rights? How do you ever expect trans people to ever suppport you again. Maybe you should change the H in HRC to stand for "hypocritical".
Who needs enemies when you have friends like the HRC?
However, I fail to see how spending 2 minutes writing a comment in defense of the one day allotted us for mourning our own is taking away for the efforts that are focused on actually "doing something." I myself spend 40 hours a week working on transgender safety, yet I will gladly take the time to defend my day from those who do not support trans rights.
Hi Kit here from Good Asian Drivers and I'm a trans slam poet.
That last comment was a clip of poem from a video response that I am having a hard time posting here but you can find it at the goodasiandrivers page.
In case you haven't noticed, you seem to be held in very low regard by many trans people, myself included, and their allies on YouTube. Maybe it's time that you, you know, actually did something that benefits the entire GLBT (the T is for transgendered btw, please stop pushing for a Tolkien-fan inclusive ENDA) community. Given your actions over the past year, I found this video to be ignorant and insulting.
Actually Lawrence King was said to be identified as gay, but was persecuted for attire that was considered too feminine. Many transgender children are told they are and therefor believe they are gay because of how they behave or dress, and only later do they find out words like transgender, transexual, transition, etc. Gender non conforming clothing or behavior is a common reason people are attacked and sadly, killed, so I do think it is appropriate Lawrence be mentioned here.
@sistermischif THANK YOU! (Sorry I missed this 2yrs ago!) THIS is the kind of critical, in-depth analysis we need to promote. More importantly, we need good orators to plant CLEAR, CONCISE&SHORT unarguable (or at least obviously foolish to not consider) points in mainstream. Discrimination against 'gay/lesbian' is, in the end, abt perceived/expected 'sex/gender' role non-conformity. Rules according to genitals negatively affect 'straight' folks too. Riki W. has been good abt that (&KateB?).
transgender is an umbrella term that includes anyone who doesn't fit societys idea of gender-norm. Lawrence King was also known to go to school in makeup and high heels, so I'd say he fits the bill. Also, if I had to make an educated guess, his story sounds an awful lot like he probably would have started his own transition before too much longer if he hadn't been killed.
HRC can do all the glossy mea culpas it wants, the trans community will never trust that organization again. I also find it bizarre they include Robert Eads in this video when he sadly died back in 1999! The LGBT community needs to acknowledge the vast majority of violence and discrimination is against transwomen, especially transwomen of color. How these (mostly) young people are brutally cast out and murdered is a national shame and a heinous human rights issue.
Last night I attended a local university's TDoR and spent about an hour listening to a young trans man (FtM) who was just disowned for coming out. When I lived in S. CA we lit a candle at TDoR for a transman who was killed and then buried as a "lesbian." Yes we need to stand up for the many trans women who are attacked, and I for one believe we need to stand together side by side and support all genders. Not leave out a large portion of our community and the reality of their situation.
HRC, way to NOT represent us. Just because it's harder to fight for our rights doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. If TDOR is an "opportunity for communities to come together" then I hope that means that you will FINALLY support us and no longer exclude us. Somehow, I doubt it.
Since when is the HRC a trans ally? Last I heard you said our rights could wait until later. You've done nothing to support us, only to worsen the problems we face. It really pissed me off to see this on here, because you have no right to claim you support us. Does dropping us from the ENDA show much support? If that's your version of support, it's amazing that more of us aren't dead. Take the damn video down and stop being such hypocrites. Put us in the bill before you glorify yourselves.
If you were really concerned with transsexual rights, you would have tried to get a trans inclusive ENDA passed. Did you do that? Nope. Instead, lots of trans-people are forced into drug and/or sex work just to pay the bills because other bosses won't hire them. Guess that works for you; after all, the more of us get hurt, the more videos you can make claiming that you support us.
You have NO business making this video and exploiting the TDOR. Your like that guy who claims he likes black people because he has a black friend. I would love to see the amount of funding you lost due to your support for a noninclusive ENDA. It would help me sleep better at night.
As a member of the trans community and the GLBTQ community your video offends me on a pretty fundamental level, HRC. Not only are you hypocritical liars, oh no, when you get caught in a lie you try to cover it up and make it up like it never happened. You sadden me and offend me, but I hope some day that you will be honest, if not with us then with yourselves, because you don't represent me or any of my trans brothers and sisters. Get over yourselves.
And to another completion to my coment , till now everybody that comented about you and the video is right . If you all whant trully to be our allies do beeter , and maybe like i sad in the previos video , a gain will be noticed . If not like everyone sad go to HELL and stay there.Allexa
"dear" Hrc ,i'm a tranny not from america but form another part of the world were is much wors in lgtb isues(let's say a palce were lgbt is considered still a siknes) , i wached most videos and coments, and i have to say that is a bit your foult .Try to do somenthing before you get out and praize yourself . Your actions are most welcomed but not in teory they are needed but in practcal aplication. And in trany right sory to say for now you suck , try do do a beeter job and you will see the gain.
It is one thing to go to a TDOR ceremony and hear speeches about receiving hate from mainstream society, it is quite another to go to a TDOR ceremony and hear speeches about receiving hate from the LGB minus the T community.

Change takes time. We need to take baby steps. The version of ENDA that included gender identity would never have passed if sexual orientation wasn't already included in existing non-discrimination laws.
since most can't even tell transgender apart from gay adding us to the bill would not effect the bill's ability to pass or not. As far as baby steps, tell that to the over 30 percent of the trans community that's either jobless or in sex jobs because they can't find a job ,see how they feel about waiting. The situation is dire and waiting will kill more trans people. I find that unacceptable and so should the HRC if they really cared for the community. Their actions prove otherwise.
How do you know that most people can't tell the difference? Got any facts or figures. I doubt it. Trust me, it would never have passed if the version including gender identity was brought to the floor. The all or nothing stance is ridiculous. Rome wasn't built in a day and GLBT equality won't happen all at once. And what does job discrimination have to do with murder? Nothing, you're thinking of hate crimes.
What does job discrimination have to do with this? Alot of the victims were sex workers. Killed on the street. Alot of them were forced to doing those jobs because of job discrimination. Facts and figures if bigots can tell the difference? you're joking right? Have you ever ask them? Trust me, They don't know. Everyone of those people that voted against that bill? Most wouldn't know the difference. I've known alot of bigots in my day. I assure you, they don't know.
I'm sure that you would feel differently if it was the L or G or B that was getting dropped rather than the T. The T has always been the expendable part and I think we've made it clear that we're pretty tired of it.
Why does the HRC act like they care now? They should take their own advice and take a stand against discrimination of trans people. The EDNA garbage made me so upset, I peeled the HRC sticker off my car.
ENDA is the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, meant to give queer people a chance to work without discrimination. HRC pushed for a version of ENDA that left out trans people. That's why most trans people have a beef with HRC. And that's why this video is pure hypocrisy. As another commenter pointed out, some of these people were killed as sex workers... work which they may have been forced into due to the insane rate of unemployment among trans people (estimated at 35% nationally).
I think it is extremely unfortunate that there IS this "fracture" in the LGBT Movement. It's so pervasive that most people don't even notice it though. Without going into a massive amount of detail I will simply point out one example from your own comment. By calling it the "Gay Rights" movement are you not discounting all transfolk who identify as straight? What about the queers? Unfortunately the HRC has decided to jump on the bandwagon and threw the T in LGBT under the bus with ENDA.
I don't know why four people would give TonyNhollywood a bad mark for asking an honest question. He didn't know so he asked. How's that negative. He wants to know about something happening in our community. He's showing interest. It's possitive to me. I can't stand what the HRC is doing either but I don't hold it against someone that dosen't know about this yet but shows enough interest to ask.

how is this video in any way an attempt to fund raise? Everyone is saying that the HRC is trying to get money from this, but I don't see a single reference in the video asking for money...
it's because they tried to have a meet and greet for their organization in Dallas on Transgender Day Or Rememberance and the fact is they've left us out of ever bill they've ever lobbied for makes alot of us annoyed. They say practice advocasy but in reality the HRC does very little for Transgendered people. Yet tries to come off like they're our champions to look good and get donations when in reality they're so not.
that's because the information Joe had from the police report said he was a gay male. He has since retracted his statement, and has made another one based on the knowledge that this person was transgender.
In refusing to include transpeople in ENDA, you contribute to the factors which put trans people in danger. And in excluding transpeople from those rights you fight for for gays and lesbians who look like you - or like your donors - you send a clear message that we are disposable.
Show some repentance, some respect, and some compassion.
Sounds to me like the HRC should practice what they preach. I find it incredibly hypocritical of them to ask people to "tell [their] friend that they're a trans ally" or "talk with [their] congressmen and women" about trans issues, because they already had their chance to do all of those things and instead they decided to support a non-gender-inclusive ENDA.
TDOR is for transfolk and their allies, and the HRC is neither of those at the moment.
Does HRC REALLY care about us? I wish they did... they gave us up when it came to ENDA, tgcyndi said none of the folk from their Chicago branch showed for the vigil. Would be nice if they really cared...
Many of this year's victims were sex workers who were murdered on the same streets where they plied their "trade". Why? Could it be because they had NO ALTERNATIVES for producing income? This insipid attempt to fundraise and bolster declining membership by expressing psuedo-sympathy and/or hollow concern is from the same organization that OPPOSED gender inclusion in ENDA. An indication of how much hrc cares is that NOT ONE member of their Chicago branch showed up for our candlelight vigil.

IF it doesn't "feel right" it probably isn't genuine. Is it enough that HRC is at least making an attempt to be more tolerant and inclusive? I don't know, but if a platform is presented we should use it to our advantage. (Special note to Diane, London and Carol : namaste)

As we draw near my first TDOR as a new initiate of the FTM community [started Testosterone 11 weeks ago] I will always stand up & claim who I am because I am SO PROUD to finally own my own right to be happy

iradgray 1 year ago
@iradgray I'm calling you to task, because, as of the speakers mentioned with the guy who was refused medical treatment, it's not all murders. The root of these deaths is discrimination and hatred, but that takes more forms than shooting someone dead. There's nothing fake about it.
jrnelswm 1 year ago
@jrnelswm - I think iradgray is talking about hrc's fake b.s., how they're acting like they care, but willing to drop them in the gutter when politics get hot, behaviour on the same level as with the murderers and ignorant neglectful maleficent medical practitioners.

ENDA was the final straw.
kabardinka1 3 years ago 2
I think that was a political / real politic decision. I do see that as gays are making advances, the so called christians, whose hatred - not the so called love they claim it to be - is now moving to the Trans people. And in general, the nation is rejecting their christian crapo.
America will become more like Europe - church attendance is minimal. Theshame is it is taking so long, and so many have suffered, in the name of a god of corruption. And the total brainwashing by the churches.

Going against HRC isn't the right answer. If you feel they're not using their money wisely, then write them a letter, not by putting some comment on youtube.
ClarkElliott 3 years ago
Wow, you totally missed my point. I believe my point was clear.
It's not about money, it's about policy, about action, and about using the trans community shamelessly while refusing to support us substantively. My comment is about HRC's use of OUR TDoR to make themselves look good while devaluing the concept of TDoR and the trans community by their actions.
brendatbabe 3 years ago 6
You called them Hypocrites Raising Cash so obviously it is about money. And being transexual myself I didn't miss any part of your point. I understand that they have had to make compromises working with Congress because there's still a lot of ignorant assholes out there - and ignorant assholes elect ignorant assholes into office so we have to deal with them. We should look optimistically forward with this new stronger Congress that will help us in our fight. We also have to be more vocal.
ClarkElliott 3 years ago
It's about HRC's hypocrisy. The Raising Cash just fit really well with the initials and the organization.
These compromises of which you speak: why do they almost always involve us? Why did Solmonese make THE speech at Southern Comfort if they had this strategy in their back pocket (or somewhere thereabouts).
HRC has abrogated their trans goals and abdicated the role of representative for the trans community. Let's support PFLAG, Lambda Legal, NCTE, TLC, and other true allies.

Progress will come, it is too bad it is at the T's expense.

silenthk47 3 years ago
It all started when with the ENDA bill. Originally they were claiming that we would not be out of the bill. We would be covered as well. Then within the very week that they made these promises they wrote us out of the bill with a lame excuse that it would have never passed with us in it. This is just one of a list of many times the HRC have snubbed the transgender community. They only take our cause when it's convenient to their image. Most of the time we're expendable to them.
huh98 3 years ago 2
Hello :) Basically the HRC (through Barney Frank) lobbied to have transgendered protection TAKEN OUT of Employment Non-Discrimination Act. He thoroughly convinced congress that it would never pass with transgendered inclusion even though it was largely a symbolic vote anyways (Bush stated he would veto it's passage trans or not.) Now they are making videos like this to try and win back support when they are obviously using the transgendered community to drum up funding.

Right?
wariobidness 3 years ago
It IS the LGBT against the intolerant... unfortunately when our supposed allies (HRC in specific) advocate against a trans inclusive ENDA they start to fall into the intolerant category.
I agree that infighting in the LGBT community is not the best way to get things done... but i refuse to accept the HRC making a video to commemorate TDoR after what they did.

Thank for that. I think I'm starting to understand the issue but it's still kind of confusing.

Do you hear that HRC?
dale62676 3 years ago 2
Hey HRC how about practicing what you preach and actually supporting an EDNA bill with trans rights? How do you ever expect trans people to ever suppport you again. Maybe you should change the H in HRC to stand for "hypocritical".

Dear HRC,
how do you have the balls to make this video?
sincerely,

OwenAB83 3 years ago 2
Who needs enemies when you have friends like the HRC?
However, I fail to see how spending 2 minutes writing a comment in defense of the one day allotted us for mourning our own is taking away for the efforts that are focused on actually "doing something." I myself spend 40 hours a week working on transgender safety, yet I will gladly take the time to defend my day from those who do not support trans rights.
One does not exclude the other.

Wow, nice video, assholes.

Hi HRC!
Happy Holidays and XO,

Lawrence King wasn't a transgendered...
cafekawaii 3 years ago
Actually Lawrence King was said to be identified as gay, but was persecuted for attire that was considered too feminine. Many transgender children are told they are and therefor believe they are gay because of how they behave or dress, and only later do they find out words like transgender, transexual, transition, etc. Gender non conforming clothing or behavior is a common reason people are attacked and sadly, killed, so I do think it is appropriate Lawrence be mentioned here.
sistermischif 3 years ago 3
@sistermischif THANK YOU! (Sorry I missed this 2yrs ago!) THIS is the kind of critical, in-depth analysis we need to promote. More importantly, we need good orators to plant CLEAR, CONCISE&SHORT unarguable (or at least obviously foolish to not consider) points in mainstream. Discrimination against 'gay/lesbian' is, in the end, abt perceived/expected 'sex/gender' role non-conformity. Rules according to genitals negatively affect 'straight' folks too. Riki W. has been good abt that (&KateB?).
ckf1997 1 year ago
transgender is an umbrella term that includes anyone who doesn't fit societys idea of gender-norm. Lawrence King was also known to go to school in makeup and high heels, so I'd say he fits the bill. Also, if I had to make an educated guess, his story sounds an awful lot like he probably would have started his own transition before too much longer if he hadn't been killed.
FindingTara 3 years ago 2
HRC can do all the glossy mea culpas it wants, the trans community will never trust that organization again. I also find it bizarre they include Robert Eads in this video when he sadly died back in 1999! The LGBT community needs to acknowledge the vast majority of violence and discrimination is against transwomen, especially transwomen of color. How these (mostly) young people are brutally cast out and murdered is a national shame and a heinous human rights issue.
kabardinka1 3 years ago 5
Last night I attended a local university's TDoR and spent about an hour listening to a young trans man (FtM) who was just disowned for coming out. When I lived in S. CA we lit a candle at TDoR for a transman who was killed and then buried as a "lesbian." Yes we need to stand up for the many trans women who are attacked, and I for one believe we need to stand together side by side and support all genders. Not leave out a large portion of our community and the reality of their situation.
sistermischif 3 years ago
HRC, way to NOT represent us. Just because it's harder to fight for our rights doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. If TDOR is an "opportunity for communities to come together" then I hope that means that you will FINALLY support us and no longer exclude us. Somehow, I doubt it.
twilightdreamscalvin 3 years ago 4
Since when is the HRC a trans ally? Last I heard you said our rights could wait until later. You've done nothing to support us, only to worsen the problems we face. It really pissed me off to see this on here, because you have no right to claim you support us. Does dropping us from the ENDA show much support? If that's your version of support, it's amazing that more of us aren't dead. Take the damn video down and stop being such hypocrites. Put us in the bill before you glorify yourselves.
sagefalloncox 3 years ago 5
HRC helped pave the path for many of these deaths. You're not allies, you're accomplices for first degree murder.
riftgirlblog 3 years ago 5
If you were really concerned with transsexual rights, you would have tried to get a trans inclusive ENDA passed. Did you do that? Nope. Instead, lots of trans-people are forced into drug and/or sex work just to pay the bills because other bosses won't hire them. Guess that works for you; after all, the more of us get hurt, the more videos you can make claiming that you support us.
Douche bags.
FindingTara 3 years ago 4
You have NO business making this video and exploiting the TDOR. Your like that guy who claims he likes black people because he has a black friend. I would love to see the amount of funding you lost due to your support for a noninclusive ENDA. It would help me sleep better at night.
karmatic1110 3 years ago 3
As a member of the trans community and the GLBTQ community your video offends me on a pretty fundamental level, HRC. Not only are you hypocritical liars, oh no, when you get caught in a lie you try to cover it up and make it up like it never happened. You sadden me and offend me, but I hope some day that you will be honest, if not with us then with yourselves, because you don't represent me or any of my trans brothers and sisters. Change takes time. We need to take baby steps. The version of ENDA that included gender identity would never have passed if sexual orientation wasn't already included in existing non-discrimination laws.
Sango1115 3 years ago
since most can't even tell transgender apart from gay adding us to the bill would not effect the bill's ability to pass or not. As far as baby steps, tell that to the over 30 percent of the trans community that's either jobless or in sex jobs because they can't find a job ,see how they feel about waiting. The situation is dire and waiting will kill more trans people. I find that unacceptable and so should the HRC if they really cared for the community. Their actions prove otherwise.
huh98 3 years ago
How do you know that most people can't tell the difference? Got any facts or figures. I doubt it. Trust me, it would never have passed if the version including gender identity was brought to the floor. The all or nothing stance is ridiculous. Rome wasn't built in a day and GLBT equality won't happen all at once. And what does job discrimination have to do with murder? Nothing, you're thinking of hate crimes.
Sango1115 3 years ago
It didn't pass without the T inclusivity either though... and they knew it wasn't going to pass, that wasn't a surprise. So why then drop the T?
grishno 3 years ago
What does job discrimination have to do with this? Alot of the victims were sex workers. Killed on the street. Alot of them were forced to doing those jobs because of job discrimination. Facts and figures if bigots can tell the difference? you're joking right? Have you ever ask them? Trust me, They don't know. Everyone of those people that voted against that bill? Most wouldn't know the difference. I've known alot of bigots in my day. I assure you, they don't know.
huh98 3 years ago 2
I'm sure that you would feel differently if it was the L or G or B that was getting dropped rather than the T. The T has always been the expendable part and I think we've made it clear that we're pretty tired of it.

Whats EDNA all about? whats up? I know nothing about this fracture in the gay rights movement.
TonyNhollywood 3 years ago
ENDA is the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, meant to give queer people a chance to work without discrimination. HRC pushed for a version of ENDA that left out trans people. That's why most trans people have a beef with HRC. And that's why this video is pure hypocrisy. As another commenter pointed out, some of these people were killed as sex workers... work which they may have been forced into due to the insane rate of unemployment among trans people (estimated at 35% nationally).
bongwench 3 years ago 8
I think it is extremely unfortunate that there IS this "fracture" in the LGBT Movement. It's so pervasive that most people don't even notice it though. Without going into a massive amount of detail I will simply point out one example from your own comment. By calling it the "Gay Rights" movement are you not discounting all transfolk who identify as straight? What about the queers? Unfortunately the HRC has decided to jump on the bandwagon and threw the T in LGBT under the bus with ENDA.
grishno 3 years ago 8
I don't know why four people would give TonyNhollywood a bad mark for asking an honest question. He didn't know so he asked. How's that negative. He wants to know about something happening in our community. He's showing interest. It's possitive to me. I can't stand what the HRC is doing either but I don't hold it against someone that dosen't know about this yet but shows enough interest to ask.
huh98 3 years ago
STOP trying to appropiate trans people's Day of Remembrance.
STOP pushing for ENDA without protections for trans people.
STOP trying to take over TDOR ceremonies and claiming flase sponsorship while pushing out the diversity of the trans community.
STOP trying to make TDOR "upbeat" and "less negative".
STOP focusing all your energy on gay marriage to the detriment of the life and death issues.
AND THEN maybe I'll believe you when you post videos like this.
Until then PISS OFF!!!

it's because they tried to have a meet and greet for their organization in Dallas on Transgender Day Or Rememberance and the fact is they've left us out of ever bill they've ever lobbied for makes alot of us annoyed. They say practice advocasy but in reality the HRC does very little for Transgendered people. Yet tries to come off like they're our champions to look good and get donations when in reality they're so not.
huh98 3 years ago 2
Just this week Joe Solmonese referred to one of the trans women we're remembering today, Lateisha Green, by her legal (male) name and as a gay man.
They're still doing everything they can to erase our identities and capitalize on our misfortunes.
Shame on you, Joe!
paigenext 3 years ago 10
that's because the information Joe had from the police report said he was a gay male. He has since retracted his statement, and has made another one based on the knowledge that this person was transgender.
benshallenberger 3 years ago
How dare you, HRC. Your hypocrisy is astounding.
In refusing to include transpeople in ENDA, you contribute to the factors which put trans people in danger. And in excluding transpeople from those rights you fight for for gays and lesbians who look like you - or like your donors - you send a clear message that we are disposable.
Show some repentance, some respect, and some compassion.
tommytesto 3 years ago 14
I concur.
thegreatchicagonose 3 years ago 7
Sounds to me like the HRC should practice what they preach. I find it incredibly hypocritical of them to ask people to "tell [their] friend that they're a trans ally" or "talk with [their] congressmen and women" about trans issues, because they already had their chance to do all of those things and instead they decided to support a non-gender-inclusive ENDA.
TDOR is for transfolk and their allies, and the HRC is neither of those at the moment.

Jayhawke 3 years ago 9
Many of this year's victims were sex workers who were murdered on the same streets where they plied their "trade". Why? Could it be because they had NO ALTERNATIVES for producing income? This insipid attempt to fundraise and bolster declining membership by expressing psuedo-sympathy and/or hollow concern is from the same organization that OPPOSED gender inclusion in ENDA. An indication of how much hrc cares is that NOT ONE member of their Chicago branch showed up for our candlelight vigil.
