  • i think only pot could make this cool

  • this shit sounds awful..... nothing to do with the original recording, even wakeman is out of time with that minimoog... and that junkie in the vocals..... well this is a remining that the original is always better.

  • In truth it was working fine till, the fat fucker decided to Out Decible the better singer, right?

The Chorus is the key point, and the Pot Bellied fat Usurp screwed it up. Whomever he is. Good mind to kick his fat tits in.

  • i just wished that mr. wakeman made the musical score of the movie. just watched it with my kids last night. great movie.

  • Cadê o resto desse video com legenda em portugues?

Where's the rest of the video, with portuguese subtitles?

  • anyone knows if this is on dvd and where to order this....

  • Hi, just joined a minute ago, I watched last night (Sunday 13 July) on ION Television part of the movie, I think Journey to the Center of the Earth, it lasted until 9pm Eastern Time and there was a beautiful song at the very end and I cannot find the music, something like - when the lights go out, when the sun goes down or so, do not know is it by Rick Wakeman but his music sounds like it, anybody any idea???

  • The art became in beathiful song.....

  • I will like the new movie only if it has cool music. The whole cd of this one is very good!

  • One super great musician player, with a briliant musical carreer.

  • This album actually has me psyched to see the feature film with Brendan Fraser.

    I'm serious.

  • maravilhosoooooooooo.

  • It's punk that died, prog is alive and well and is bigger than ever. Ever heard of Muse and Radiohead, Porcupine Tree or IQ? Nah, bet you haven't lol Lover's of prog rock tend to like all genres of music, and aren't abusive about any particular style. If we don't like something we say, "Yeah, but some people do so that's cool!"

  • I was speaking more within the context of the time, not 30+ yrs later. I'm well aquainted with Radiohead(saw OK Computer tour). Muse is good as well. I'll have to check out the others. This is boring. I see very little in the way of similaries between this material and their stuff. Songs are the difference. This music is meandering and long-winded, to say the least. ...it just goes on and on. I consider Pink Floyd to be much more important, and influential to anything leaning prog today. Cheers!

  • what overindulgent nonsense! I'm waiting for the spacecraft to land and retrieve them all... What the hell were these people on? Thank God punk killed this shit...

  • HAHAHAHA!

  • curto desde que nasci

  • Its sad that he picked such a terrible singer though.

  • I agree...

  • Sorry I'm not used to use this... I wanted to answer the guy that said that they could of chosen a better singer!

  • Yeah, that was me. I am glad you agree.

  • GASP! A pre-mullet Wakeman?!

  • este video es increible

  • Fools! the singer you speak of is Gary Pickford-Hopkins from Wild Turkey.

  • El mejor tecladista de todos los tiempos, musica o magia..???

  • he comes in the garden centre i work in :p

  • u lucky ducky

  • nice cape! a keytar and a cape would be much better though.

  • Is the singer really Boz?

  • i think the singer is boz burrel

  • This is great. I used to listen to this all the time as a kid, courtesy of my mom. I love when he starts rocking out about magic chandeliers.

  • The spaceship for planet hippie is now boarding. All dopes bring your dope.

  • LOL...dont forget the tabs of orange sunshine

  • hahaha

  • good

  • i almost feel stoned by listening to this man, it's so good, people dont make music like that anymore...

  • "it's so good, people dont make music like that anymore..."

    I agree

  • except for him. saw him in concert 3 years ago

  • HIM? That one-trick pony band? You're saying HIM are as good as Yes?

    I'm puzzled...

  • haha never even heard of HIM. im saying people still do make music like this - rick wakeman

  • That album is BEAUTYFUL

  • your highness RICK WAKEMAN

  • A very raw reproduction of an awesome original. Off key here, nothing the same. Get the original...unbelieveable.

  • Sometime in the late 70's, "Journey to the Center of the Earth" was broadcast live on "Don Kirchner's Rock Concert". Complete with choir and orchestra. It was simulcast in stereo over a local FM station. It was magic!!! Wish they would release that in a video! I taped the audio on my reel-to-reel. Still have the tape, but don't have a reel-to-reel player anymore. a couple of the "six Wives...' was also included.

    An unbelievably talented musician!

  • I saw that show. I have the record somewhere. I played the bejeebers out of it.

  • Hi Ginger

If I ever find a reel-to-reel player, I'll make a coy of it for you...

  • why does he look like jesus?

  • good question^^

  • What does Jesus look like?He doesn't look like an Arab to me.

  • for the 130 thousand of you[s] who LIKE this, Rick Wakeman's RETURN to the center/centre of the earth is FABULOUS, complete with many known singers, aka ozzy ozbourne, justin hayward [moody blues], trevor rabin [yes] , and "the rest"

  • Rick Wakeman .. great guy.. excellent keyboard player... true musician... If you don't understand this music it means you're think. Too technical for some... if you can get a copy of his Winter Olympics music .... the opening 'solo' is awesome. It's called 'White Rock'. Class stuff.

  • I still have an original LP from this guy i used to hear it once in a while. Take me back to a good part of my life. Greetings from Costa Rica

  • Now I understand why punk had to happen.

  • Oh, hahaha, good point man!

Let's just say that Progressive at that time needed a bit of ... OOMPH into it!

  • In 74, I was 12 years old and my father took me to one of his concerts (in São Paulo, Brazil). I still remember every bit of it. Funny thing was that my father was a police officer and he "hated" rock and roll...

  • i love that kind of stories .......thanks for sheaing !!!!! abrigadooo !!!!!

  • It is a pleasure to share this kind of things. Thanks for contacting me.

  • thanks for this clip, i have listened this album several times long ago, thanks

  • Hi Sarah, saw Rick and the English Rock Ensemble do their last gig of tour around 1977 in Edinburgh. They were determined to be loud and all sorts of instruments being thrown around. My friends were fascinated to note that the noise and reverb so loud that my glasses spent most of the concert bouncing up and down on my nose. So long ago, but a great concert.

  • my dad is Martyn Shields he was a trumpet player in Ricks English Rock Ensemble,he plays on all the greatest wakeman albums of the 70s ,my favourite is Lancelot and the black knight.R I P dad love Sarah x

  • Takes me right back to 1974! Thanks so much.

  • Dude this album ruled back in the day! We usta get stoned and listen to it, I have the CD but still remember where (when) the 8 track would Click! Stoned Hugh, so much for my political career! As much.

  • Thank you, danimotta!

  • Jesus Christ is alive!great music!

  • Aaaah...if I only had a joint...

  • hehe... amen

  • One day I'll get me a mini moog and make some of those lovely fat noises.... some of the slower bits anyway....

  • I was there at the myer music bowl in 1975...it was a great concert....the concert was it was actually played back on tv as well later that year......I wonder where i could get a copy from??? where did this come from????

  • A dvd was released of the concert I have it

  • Love the beer cans at 0:51...

  • This was always one of my most cherished "albums" (I'm dating myself, aren't I?), too. My favorite part has always been "The Recollection". Haven't, yet, been able to find IT on YouTube, but this is still really nice. Love Wakeman's "Guinevere", too.

  • I have always owned this album. What I would do is on a rare occasion get a bunch of friends together and have a "Journey to the Center of the Earth Night". My friends and I would all sit around and listen to the album together. Back then this album was to me almost like a precursor to D and D games. The You Tube version here does really not do the album justice but it is very nice to finally "see" the live performance over just imagining it. THANKS!

  • danimotta: Great stuff. Man, I love YouTube. Thanks for posting!

  • Egh...Jon Anderson you mooks

  • Oh man, I'm trying not to offend people, but you must be blind and deaf. Or simply know as much Yes as I know rap... But I don't even go there.

  • zing.

  • Who is the vocalist?

  • I don't know, but looks like Steve Harris...ahahahah.

  • Ashley holt

  • Gary Pickford Hopkins.

  • If I'm not mistaking this take is from the Australian tour in 1975. The guy singing is Gary Pickford Hopkins and the narrator is Terri Taplin. The Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra and the Melbourne Camber Choir. Peace & Love

  • There's a realy beautifull music, but the video clip don't completely in total contents.

  • Rick is kind of scary looking with his long hair and facial expressions. He is the only member of Yes that drank beer and ate meat. Wakeman is a beast!

  • i havent listened to this since i had it on vinyl back in the 70s , this whole thing was so visual , i compare it to when people only had radios and listened to stories and had to close thier eyes and imagine ...great posting thank you : )

  • I love Rick Wakeman and your songs, but Journey to the Centre of the Earth is a lesson of music, is beautiful, is magic.

    Sandra Gandolfi

  • Hopeless. With Jon Anderson it is much better.

  • I agree.

  • Loved Rick Wakeman in my younger days. I've never been much into the science of music but I know what I like, what makes me happy! Seems there are many fans of Rick that still follow his life. What's he doing now?

  • soory that i say this but he just look like jesus the keyboard player is jeses ooooh m good lord lol

  • you can certainly tell this was the 70s....lol...his hair looks like a chick..lol

  • january, 1974

  • "John lydon"

The guy who said he "killed" rock & roll? *chuckles* Prog-rock was never so pompous and self-regarding as that. ;)

  • el bajista Roger Newell es un pecho frio

  • and i'm sure John lydon would shake my hand for saying that lol

  • Wakeman's Journey To The Centre Of the Earth is one of the most emotional pieces of music of the 20th century IMHO.BRILLIANT!!!!

  • Rick Wakeman, eat your heart out! I like short songs!

  • tenho delirio s[o em ouvir esta opera

  • No, my father isn't gay. But this music IS gay. I don't know what an emo song is, so no insult there. I don't listen to much music anymore. I listened to Yes when I was a kid. Then I learned better. This music is goofy. So, you're the asshole, OK???!!!!!!

  • This is gay.

  • what kind of person are you?

    this man is a genius,

and is a million times a better musician than you, if not more.

where do you get off saying that a pioneer/god of progressive music is "gay"

hes the reason prog is what it is today

    get a job

  • Jesus F. Christ. You make a lot of assumptions about people. First: How do you define "genius"? I mean, Wakeman is a good musician, but genius? In what way did he invent anything new? Second he's a "million times" better musician than me? Just how do you count "million"? Are there people who are 527,864 times better than me? How do you count this?

  • 2nd Reilly: Can you read English? I did not write that Rick Wakeman is gay. I wrote "This is gay" meaning that the MUSIC is gay. Got it? It's flouncy effete feminine music. I don't have a clue as to RW's personal life.

3rd. Prog rock is what today? It's awful. Always was. Always will be.

Last: I have a job, fuck brain.

  • Lastly: As for what kind of person I am, I am a thinking person with critical faculties. When music sounds gay I say "This music sounds gay." If you disagree, disagree. Otherwise, go piss down a rope.

  • Also, RocketFuel, it just occurred to me to ask you this: What is the connection between me having or not having a job and my opinion of Rick Wakeman's music? In other words, let me get this straight: If I "(got) a job" (I already have one, but let's assume I didn't...), I would then, all of a sudden, like Rick Wakeman's music? Isn't that the logic you are putting forth? I see. You, my friend, are a towering intellect. (Sarcasm there in that last sentence in case you didn't recognize it.)

  • haha. first. he DID invent something you uninformed idiot. see how he has about 3 keyboards stacked ontop of eachother? back in 1970,

which was about 37 years back, people caled rick crazy for doing this, but he invented the whole idea for this, so he wouldnt have to put his keyboards on makeshift tables.

  • Oh my God. Rick Wakeman stacked keyboards on top of one another. What a great invention. What a HUGE contribution to music. Stacking keyboards! I am speechless.

"<i>Rick Wakeman stacked keyboards, and the world of rock music was never the same afterwards.</i>" Did you ever think that maybe it was a roadie that came up with that idea?

  • Why don't you learn your wakeman history before you argue with me.

    it was no rodie

    he invented it

id like to see you invent something half as good.

when you do, take some of your millions and buy a brain cell.

(oh just incase you didnt notice, i used sarcasm in that last sentance).

  • Wakeman history: I have better things to read about than the history of Rick Wakeman stacking his keyboards.

  • then shouldnt you also have better things to do than spend time on you tube arguing.

    come on.

  • SECOND, I told you to get a job, because maybe if you didnt have so much time on your hands, you'd stop commenting on youtube videos that you find "gay".

I am only 14 and its my summer, so i have a reason. whats your excuse? why must you anger other people by leaving negative remarks where all his fans will be? is that what you like to do, so others know your there? inferiority complex? well we allknow your here.

  • OK Ricky, for 99th time: I don't find the VIDEO per say to be gay, it's the flouncy MUSIC that I think is effeminate. I checked into this video just to see if Rick had all of his marbles left. I was into Yes as a teen. Grew out of it. And you're only 14. Well shoot, junior, what you want? A cookie? I was fourteen once myself.

  • im a girl you loser. bite me.

  • Bite you? If your fourteen and a girl, I'd probably get arrested if I bit you. As I said: Go and get your parents. You obviously need supervision.

  • that acctually made me laugh.

like, not in a bad way.

  • Sweetheart, let me tell you this:

If you like Rick Wakeman's music, please go ahead and like it, and don't let anybody tell you that you shouldn't. I actually owned this album when it first came out. Listening to it today all I can say is it sounds totally gay. And that's what I think. So, adios, muchacha.

  • Why don't <i>you</i> have a job? Do your parents give you everything you want without having to work at all? Consider your self lucky. There are 8 year old kids picking through garbage dumps outside of Mexico City as I type. And why is it angering to hear someone express their opinion about music? You don't have to agree with me at all. Grow some cojones junior!

  • and, im not old enogh to get a job

    or i would

  • who cares if its "flouncy effete feminine music" its well written, and played well. very well. And its based on the classic novel "journey to the center of the earth" by Jules Verne.

THIRD, maybe you're the one who cant read english, because, as you may or may not be able to tell, I'M WRITING IN ENGLISH, I WAS defending

the music and in turn its creator.

  • fourth, prog is the most difficult music to play, and write. And Lastly, Don't you feel stupid arguing with a teenager? and HAHA! you've been taken down a peg by her too.

Wakeman is the greatest musician, and you appear to be the only one that disagrees.

  • No, I don't feel stupid arguing with a teenager. What the hell. I was a teenager myself at one point in time. I used to argue with older people when I was a teenager. Go and tell your parents if you like.

And how do you define "greatest musician"? What are the criteria? Guaranteed you won't answer this question. Guaranteed.

  • you think i wont answer

    hahaha alright

    you dont know me

    so, ill let it go.

A great musician, takes time to practice

    and learn his/her trade

dedicates a good part of their life to it.

    and their practice pays off,

  • There are loads of musicians who "practice...learn his/her trade...(and) dedicate...a good part of their life to (music)". Those things, in and of themselves, do not make someone a "musical genius". It might make you technically proficient, but it does nothing for inspiration, creativity, or cultural relevance. Those things are intangibles that no amount of practice can bring forth. Pratice and dedication only give you tools to work with, nothing more.

  • i needed time ti think about this, bu i got the answer;

A great musician is someone who can play with heart, soul and technique all at the same time ;D

Like Steve Clark, and Rick. That was gonna bug me unless i answeed it well.

  • Progressive rock may be difficuly to play, but its technique is about the only thing that it has tio offer. Rock music - at its best - has nothing to do with technical displays of musicianship. That's what I realized when I was about 15 or 16 and I discovered Bob Dylan and Neil Young. Those guys, to me, are great musicians. And they are true geniuses.

  • okayy, im done arguing

you realized you dont like prog

    i realized i hate you,

    and like prog.

    we both have our opinions

    good day, man. good day.

  • Dude, Progressive Rock, is much more than the difficulty. And its much better than rock. At least the solos, aren't two seconds long...

  • Dude, what is rock? How did it start? That is what rock is. Short fast, and in the gut. What's wrong with a two second solo? If that's all the song needs, that's all it needs.

    If you want technique, jazz.

  • Professional soccer may be difficult to play, but its technique is about the only thing that it has to offer. Soccer - at its best - has nothing to do with technical displays of sportsmanship. That's what I realized when I was about 15 or 16 and I discovered Barry Spong and Arthur Sponge (Chigley Village FC). Those guys, to me, are great footballers. And they are true geniuses.

  • Any chance they can come play A-League with Central Coast Mariners.Hope their strikers we need `em!

  • And Lastly, Don't you feel stupid arguing with a teenager? and HAHA! you've been taken down a peg by her too.

Wakeman is the greatest musician, and you appear to be the only one that disagrees.

  • darn, i double posted D:

  • me and my mate rockin' Rog went to western springs AK New surrealand with our socks stuffed full of rolled thai stick maoripyjamas (10x stronger than todaze kiddie-skunk). Rick in his silver cloak matched our red silk cloaks. blissful

  • Rick, wake me when it's over.

  • Wake Me When It's Over? Are you kidding me? this stuff is amazing

  • emerson, lake and palmer its aweason

  • Emerson Lake and Palmer??

  • those hairy chest cavemen are wearing me nana's table cloth. Not fair !!

  • I really confused. The only Journey to Center of The Earth I know is something else, very melodious (I'm not saying this one is bad though) and possibly sung by Rick Wakeman himself; and as I recalled it was backed by beautiful kid-choirs. I've been searching that song for such a long long time, without any success. Can anybody help? Kind regards from Java Island

  • You are probably looking for "Return to the center of the earth" It's a much newer work from Rick (1999), with guess performers like Ozzy Osbourne; Patrick Stewart; Trevor Rabin; Bonnie Tyler; Justin Hayward. 22 songs with a little more beat and not as progressive...Peace & Love

  • No, it was released around mid 70s when I was a kid. Possibly Journey to the Center of the Earth comprising some sub-songs, including the one I referred whic was under the title 'the Trees'. Memorable song, and I appreciate if anyone could share it through Youtube. Anyway, Thanks a bunch huaso97.

  • OK. now I know you are in the right track...The whole work is divided in four parts:

    The Journey

    Recollection

    The Battle

    The Forest.

The Original album was recorded live at the Royal Festival Hall in London on January 18th 1974. Maybe the song you are referring is "The Forest" Peace & Love

  • Precies. Hartelijk dank. Molto bravo!!

  • I think that I still an LP from 1975, I bought it while stationed in FRG. Great music!

  • I remember nice moments in the 70´s when I use to go to the hightschool. without words.

  • is this Jesus?

  • MARVELOUS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for this. I love that album and have been impressed by Rick Wakeman's stuff since he was with the Strawbs.

    Fantastic!

  • o som tá mau mixado, pqp!

  • Muito bom o show.

  • Is this from the Midnight Special airing of the entire concert? That is the only video of this performance piece I have seen of such age. We used to play this album from beginning to end...over and over...

  • me too

  • Yes indeed, alone or with Yes, solo or with friends Rick has been one of the greatest keybord players ever and he is also a great composer. Now he has a son Oliver who has inherited his fathers talent. Bravo!

  • a classic album,i bought when it came out and still listen to and enjoy now on (on DVD with free CD !!) thanks for posting.

  • Yes indeed, alone or with Yes, solo or with friends Rick has been one of the greatest keybord players ever and he is also a great composer. Now he has a son Oliver who has inherited his fathers talent. Bravo!

  • Great!

  • reconozco que no tenía puta idea de quien era este tio tan gracioso y me compré su disco por unos pírricos 3 euros.¡que puto fulero este wakerman!

  • gallego trolo

  • I Love This i First Heard It on Vinyl @ My British Friends House.

  • Os shows de Rick Wakeman sempre foram "trash"! Esse é insuperável. Many thanks for the post.

  • Does any one knows if we can see the whole

    album

  • there is a D.V.D with free cd"Rick Wakeman - Journey To The Centre Of The Earth"

  • First concert I ever saw...1975 Detroit. Rick, The choir, The bad vocals (horrible key/tune), and the fantastic music. Ad the first time I ever smelled pot!!!! Good post... Thanks

  • That girl is using New Harmony Hairspray

  • The live version of 'Journey' from Melbourne kills the original album. The musicianship is all around a lot better, the 2 singers are in key most of the time, and the narrator for this version of 'Journey' was cooler than the one on the album. I wish Rick would release the Melbourne Show on CD, so I could put it on my iPod!

  • I have to get this DVD - awesome stuff. I grew up listening to this album.
