Geva is very talented, yes... But John's soul POURS from his eyeballs and that's something that is so RARE and beautiful. You can hear his character through his music. I recently heard one of his newer songs from the Empyrean, and without knowing it was John, I could recognize that it was him playing. His sound is distinct like no other.

I hadn't heard of Geva when I listened to this, so I searched his cover out of interest, he put's his own spin on it but John here is just singing and playing a carbon copy of Bowies song and is off key at some parts, he's probably stoned too

I love John's energy, but this cover isn't in any way humanely possibly better than Geva Alon's

@vincentheron No I got a dsr1 Johns is a 000-15, which is almost the same but the body is curvier. and the neck is mahogony instead of rosewood about 1,300 bones. My dsr was 800. which is still nice and looks similar!

BSSM was their apex masterpiece! 2 throwaway tunes and the rest was about 60 of musical mastery (including Keidis) then they went in decline.

the following cds had about 40% very good songs & 60% same old shit syndrome tunes

He writes all the lyrics and his energy fuels the band. He's a performer and entertainer first a singer second, and his particular brand of vocals are inseparable from the chili peppers.

The chilis changed and expanded musically, as much as BSSM is my fave album, I love their most recent work also.

It seems like, in every single song, Frusciante needs to build confidence. The first few bars are always off-key, but by the chorus or so he just sounds incredible. This is no exception.
