rdan,by far the most powerfull version ever, always been one of my favs but the delivery gilmour gave this was by far the best & most moving,perhaps giving us a real feeling of what he was going through "On The Turning Away" during this time period with all that was going on,He simply nailed it! Not to mention a timeless mesmerizing voice & Guitar,I believed him to be at his best during this tour because he had to.In Many ways I think his performance on the last 2 floyd albums are his best

But thats just me, just something about the last 2 Albums that really captured that "theme" That floyd albums are so recognizable for, especially with their earlier stuff. I love this "post-Waters" song because it get's the message across without sounding preachy. And this song is clearly about how people, since the '70's until this era of "communication, still more then ever fail to notice what is all around them because of how preoccupied they are with themselves...

Although Gilmour was never at his best concerning lyrics, for this song / album (and the later ones), he got the aid of his later girlfriend Polly Samson. Funny how the lyrics of this song could pertain to just about any era in recent history. Even in the late 80's when we were in a fairly peaceful state. the words are pertinent now even more so.
