this song came out the year i was born. happens to be one of my favorites off all time. coincidence? it is incredibly beautiful and meaningful. i truly believe that that is what is happening to the world, we are turning away from those unfortunate, weak, helpless. it is incredibly sad to me how the human race is ruining itself...
Why cant i find "ONE" video of an original or CD quality recording...??? It's only live uploads...? Is this really that popular or profitable over the rest of the Floyd content...???
Great Song and sound but the cameras moved around to much. every second. too much production... great band , great song.,,great cd . throw the dvd in the trash
This shows you that Pink Floyd is the Greatest of all time. Because they did great when Roger took over, and they also did great when Gilmour took over. i don't know of any other band that is able to do that.
Let's see....Your post contains a spelling error, a grammatical error and a couple---no wait----a few punctuation errors. Holy crap! What IS the world coming to? Hell, even your user name is mis-spelled!
...this...is...just...amazing.........every time i watch this vid, i feel like i could cry for daaaays! Gilmour is the soul of Pink Floyd and when he take his guitar, my world turns into something completely different...and i want to stay there! Thanks, man, for sharing this vid with us! Peace ☮
rdan,by far the most powerfull version ever, always been one of my favs but the delivery gilmour gave this was by far the best & most moving, perhaps giving us a real feeling of what he was going through "On The Turning Away" during this time period with all that was going on,He simply nailed it! Not to mention a timeless mesmerizing voice & Guitar,I believed him to be at his best during this tour because he had to.In Many ways I think his performance on the last 2 floyd albums are his best
@c0mfor7a31yNum3 One thing about David Gilmour is he always gets better just when the last thing he did was the best you ever heard..lol He went from being a musical genius at a young age to being a consummate professional musical genius now.
This song is an all time favorite for me, in many aspects. Musically, OMG sort of describes it. This performance is just unbelievably awesome to me.
@GilmourTrueHD yea dude, in almost ALL of My earlier "Movies" I used This as the "opening" credits Music for obvious reason, it simply sucks you in with like you said " OMG Awesomeness". Its an Undescribable feeling i guess, working on an upload now from the 2010 tour, its a great sequence unfortunately you guys will get to me the "jackass of the year"..... lol
@GilmourTrueHD IT's right, I watched the albert hall one and just couldn't believe how his voice was even better than I remember. The guitar speak's for itself
heard this song 22 years ago, when i was a pup, and could not believe it was pink floyd, as i did not think i would be into their music, but since then i just thought wow, f*****g amazing, and got right into them, but this song will always be my favourite, it just hits you somewere special in your head and you just go right into a wee day dream. awesome group!
@nickyboyblue1@nickyboyblue1 yea man, Almost all music agrees that those last 2 albums were more the "original" sound that floyd had in their early days, I Think its more Pink Floyd than "The Wall". But thats just me, just something about the last 2 Albums that really captured that "theme" That floyd albums are so recognizable for, especially with their earlier stuff. This Album makes you want to go back & listen to the stuff you never heard.
In one hundred years this song will still be relivent and looked at in AWE!!! There's more talent on this stage than all modern bands put together. Thanks for posting.
Never has there been a guitar solo played that can match this. David makes that strat cry, scream, whisper, howl and sing all in one solo. It is a solo of such incredible beauty and melodic genius that I can not see how it can ever be equalled.
Every time I listen I have the chills like the first time! Thanks
Floyd, thank you for this song, thanks for all your albums, thanks for the trips that I simply closing your eyes listening to you, thanks for existing!!
I have the cd version and the solo is a bit different, maybe a bit better, maybe different. Or maybe I'm bias because it's my fav solo of all time and felt weird to hear different. Either way, Gilmour's solo do take you away.
wish i was born 20 years earlier so i had the chance to see these live, im 23 now and going to see roger waters next year but he wont even come close to this, i hope gilmour tours again sometime
@dogg111222 I'm 21, and just had the privilege of seeing Waters perform The Wall in Atlanta. Closest thing I've ever seen to a true Floyd concert. It was an amazing experience; you won't be disappointed. I hope Gilmour tours again as well. I'd be first in line for tickets.
@dogg111222 .... Go see Australian Pink Floyd if they ever tour near you....They re-create a Floyd show to the note...Light show eeven better cause of all the new digital stuff........background singers in Australian show were the only weak-link.
I agree with all of the positive comments! Mr Gilmour has to be the best that ever picked up a strat. However, let us not overlook Mr Nick Mason on the cans----ALSO a legend in his field. I challenge ANYone to describe a better drummer!
@seantheman121 There are rumors that DSoT will be remastered from the original filming and produced on DVD. I haven't found confirmation of that from a legitimate source like David's site though.
yeah ive stumbled across several bootlegs of this on DVD, but its just not the same (ive seen 2 different bootlegs, both poor quality. closest ive come is an excellent copy of the Venice '88 show)
maybe a 30 year anniversary release, 2019 anyone? haha
did u get to see them live, if not , these video's , specially of the "Pulse tour" live , check that out and u will b amazed, the whole concert is on here , part 1 and 2!!! I downloaded it, can't believe i get to even see this again, let alone have it to watch whenever i want 4 free!! What a deal, hey? take care , babyjo
@ferparadiso Thanks! I just uploaded Shine On from DSoT, that completed all of the songs from the film version. They are in my playlist, as well I have the missing songs that were covered in the Omni filming of the tour, not as good of quality so I only included the songs not covered in the film.
In the field of ROCK, Gilmour stands alone in his understanding of "Play only what the song demands, and no more". His melodic aproach to guitar sets him apart from all others on a level that perhaps only Beethoven would understand...There is likely to never be another...
To my great sadness, this is the most constantly relevant song in rock - the lyrics convict us every time. Heartbreakingly beautiful melody. Songs that move a person to develop a social or political awareness are so vitally important to our society's health. Long live Pink Floyd's music!
I had a routine. I used to get home in the middle of the night from my chef's apprenticeship and drop this into the video player and watch it to the end every night for about 7 months in a row. It was an absolutely awesome way for me to knock off. Thank you so much for posting this fantastic concert for us all. The time and place in my life was definitely worth remembering, and sitting here tonight I am amazed a what comes flooding back. Music is indeed timeless, time is irrelevant to life!
Amazing solo. It's totally Gilmourian in scope, but I feel like there's so much more raw emotion in this than there usually is, and that's a hell of a lot. Maybe it's the key changes.
Please tell how I can subscribe and get this video. I have the original delicate sound of thunder but I got to say the quality of this video is awesome. mines nothing compared to this one
I love this "post-Waters" song because it get's the message across without sounding preachy. And this song is clearly about how people, since the '70's until this era of "communication, still more then ever fail to notice what is all around them because of how preoccupied they are with themselves...
and you can listen to the meaning of this song as well on a "micro" scale (meaning about lry's say 2 persons) as on a "macro" scale" (let's say the gap between rich and poor, between the "have's" and "have not's", between the needy and the selfish,... who turn away).
Although Gilmour was never at his best concerning lyrics, for this song / album (and the later ones), he got the aid of his later girlfriend Polly Samson. But full credits go to Gilmour for his more then impressive guitarplay and his wonderfull vocals (although his friend Rick Wright -R.I.P.- comes close on this).
Funny how the lyrics of this song could pertain to just about any era in recent history. Even in the late 80's when we were in a fairly peaceful state. the words are pertinent now even more so. We are witnessing first hand the results of complacency in the wake of our own comfort. As a former SDS participant I long for the return of days when people stand up and stop turning away.
To quote a fellow youTuber "Silence is Complicity"
@GilmourTrueHD yes i so agree with u about how it has transcended time generation after generation will enjoy this as i do now through this wonderful magical web site we call youtube, thanku to all who have put up some great quality floyd, keep it coming!!
Anyway, I just wanted to add the lyrics for you guys (just needed to do it in 4 times, because of the character limit per message). Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do; and learn a bit from the meaning ;-).
The most surrounding solo i have ever heard in my 29 years of life. I have listened to thousnds of solos from everyone from Jerry Garcia to Jimi Hendrix and none of them are on this level. From the begining of the solo to the end i am taken to many places. Bliss and tears everytime. Such a masterpiece and a solo not alot of people talk about. .
@Phishboy26 it doesn't get ANY BETTER THAN THIS MAN, im now 44 , been listenin seems like 4ever already, but isn't it great? I love youtube!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, I just wanted to add the lyrics for you guys (just needed to do it in 4 times, because of the character limit per message). Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do; and learn a bit from the meaning ;-).

On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won't understand
"Don't accept that what's happening
Is just a case of others' suffering
Or you'll find that you're joining in
The turning away"

It's a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting its shroud
Over all we have known
Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that we're all alone
In the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite
In a silent accord
Using words you will find are strange
And mesmerized as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night

No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away?

The most surrounding solo i have ever heard in my 29 years of life. I have listened to thousnds of solos from everyone from Jerry Garcia to Jimi Hendrix and none of them are on this level. From the begining of the solo to the end i am taken to many places. Bliss and tears everytime. Such a masterpiece and a solo not alot of people talk about. .
