  • The armored enemies look like iron knuckles

  • You know it didn't dawn on me that we were really in earth until the next resurrection scene.

  • I think i finalt understan with the 96 number conflict

It's a multiplier of 4, wich is the number of death in japanese folklore and such.

  • You go to the bed and.....thats how the game ends :P

  • i like this game already

  • super nintendo graphics, there like nintendo graphics only SUPER!

  • @TheNitroman211 Yeah! EarthBound FTW!

  • the first time i saw the guardian i thought he was going to say:

"this is the first sanctuary location, but its mine now take it from me if you dare"

    XD

  • This has got to be one of the very few RPG's where the protagonist has a girlfriend.

  • @RiderAndKallen there are others, but this one is the only one where its set into stone lol

  • You can REBUY magic? Wow, didn't know that for some reason...

  • Yay Baby Music.

It's like Happy Music, except you...cry.

  • your not good at keeping secrets.....

  • felled is acutally another word for killed, so he technically did say killed.

  • Fun Fact: If you stand on the left side of the Lance of Overcompensation enemies, their Lance can't hit you. At least that's how it went for me.

  • And this is the whole game?

  • Living in the UK I felt lucky to be able to buy this game when it came out. I always look for cartridges in the bargain bins, because I know I can sell them for a lot more on Ebay :-)

I wonder if the Wii virtual console will have this game soon.

  • It is just me, or does the Guardian look like Garland from FFI

  • omg lol, i had no idea you actually get back the magirocks either, and i played it 3-4 times >.< so i never used magic either lol

  • Lol Felled? thats almost as bad a I, Garland, will knock you all down!!

  • this game is awesome!Hc Baily you do good lets plays

  • Thank god this tower is rather short. I was on the third tower and the emulator on my Wii froze. Then, even though I had been saving, the game decided that I didn't need to use the in game saving and didn't actually register my saves so I had to start all over. Now I'm using the save states...geez that ticked me off...

  • Do you commentate live or not? At some times it seems you do, but at other times it seems like post-commentating.

  • I was frozen today!

  • ...I had to rewind because I thought something was different about your intro line. Then I was right. And I lolled.

    HCNavi! Hey! LISTEN.

  • how old is this game?

  • It is a SNES title.... so you tell me...

  • i remeber being level 8 in the first tower...

since i couldn't find the broken window exit...

  • crystalis is one of my all-time favorite games. Yea you had to do a lot of grinding and I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like it but I absolutely love it.

  • ok i literally shot milk out my nose when i saw that first monster walk to the side.. XD

  • 5:00 Thanks for taking so long with the dialog and level-up messages that the money disappeared, game.

6:22 Yeah, I've always said that late SNES graphics were better than early PS1 graphics, for artistic detail.

I like how the location names pop up in this game.

The world map distortion is almost worse than trying to use the Ring map screen in FF2.

  • lol they used "felled" for atmospheric effect! : P

    lol

  • err.. I've become more interested in this then Cross...

man I'm just not feeling Cross. wonder if its cause I was such a huge fan of trigger, or cause I never played Cross back in the day.

Terranigma is hella fun to watch though..

*shrug* just some really subjective feedback. Keep it rollin'! :D

  • Ark looks adorable in his overworld sprite. He has the cloak and the little pack over his shoulder. It's so cute man!

  • I'm extremely impressed with the graphics of this game.

    Keep 'em coming, HC!

  • Yomi's not going to tell you to do a barrel roll, is he?

  • Speaking of Crystalis Hc do you plan on doing it?I ask because my Friend and I who are fans of you and other LPers haven't seen any good LPs of it and we both Love that old game. Also cant wait to see how you handle a certain boss i had mega trouble with and further I also dispite beating this game 2x never knew about the magirock back so never used magic too. Well now i need to play again and start useing magic i guess.

  • I definitely want to LP Crystalis someday. If it's not the best, it's got to be one of the best games on the NES.

  • I personally find Crystalis overrated by its fans, possibly tainted by nostalgia. Sure, it was fun, but all I remember is how often you had to switch swords to damage things, and how tedius it was to do so with the interface.

  • @SchlossRitter

What does it matter what the fans think. They can rate the game any way they want. You can't argue a personal opinion. Every time I hear or see the word overrated is sounds like the person saying it is telling the person who ratted what to think.

So what if they like it that much. What does it matter? How does this affect you? That is how they feel about it personally. I doubt they want someone telling them how to feel about a game they like.

  • Whoa, I didn't mean it as strongly as it must have came across to you. I just was ranting at the problems I had with the game I guess.

Yeah, I agree that it's stupid to try and judge on how others should feel about a game. For example, I have found enjoyable every singe Final Fantasy that I've played so far, despite all the haters to certain ones saying otherwise.

  • I should apologize for my outburst. I just don't like it when people say overrated. I know that some people say it because they don't think people should gave a game a high ratting. I remember going onto forums and seeing comments like " I don't thing (insert game name) deserves a 10 I think it should get a (8-5)". As if we should start rating game to their standers.

I do realize that some people aren't saying it to tell people what to think or how to rate a game.

  • If anything they're using it loosely. As long as the intention isn't to argue a personal opinion then i won't bitch.

I know that fanboys/girls can be very annoying at times but in the end it is still their opinion.

I'm going to do a video soon talking about it so I can get it off my chest but first I need to calm down so I don't end up labeling the wrong people.

  • As for the Final Fantasy haters. Why they act the way they do is beyond me, but, they do seem to whine whenever a new FF game comes out. I find the whining to be hypocritical because some of them say they don't like Tidus because he whines to much. I don't know where they get that from but oh well.

Once again I apologize for the outburst.

  • No prob, bro. Someone else did stick their nose in and thumbs down my comments, even when I tried to clarify myself, heh.

  • You were pretty clear. I understand what you are saying that's why I apologized.

I'll give you a thumbs up on you're comments. at least it will be back to 0.

  • 8:28 YOU GET THE MAGIROCK BACK???? This whole time, I never knew that.. and never used magic..

  • The baby music was unexpected XD

    Doctor: Congratulations, it's a continent!

  • Felled sound cooler than killed.

  • Slain is the best.

  • Whoa, I didn't notice the fire rivers before. Don't trip Ark!

  • from my understanding Eurasia usually refers to the middle east area and india?

  • Eurasia usually refers to Europe + Asia

  • Eurasia is the continent where you find Europe and Asia. They're the same continent.

  • @zebezd they are not the same continent, they are 2, but terranigma accounts for them as 2

  • @pointynives

They are indeed the same continent, as in the same landmass (actually the same tectonic plate).

  • @zebezd they are seperate continents anyway

  • @pointynives

In Norwegian and Swedish, we have 2 separate terms: "kontinent", which refers to the landmass, and another term that translates to "part of the world", which is where we separate Europe and Asia. I don't know if there are 2 separate terms for that in English, so this is probably just a small language clash.

  • @zebezd in england, we use 7 continents, asia, europe, north america, south america, africa, australia and antartica

  • @pointynives

...which is what we refer to by the second term (part of the world). Glad we resolved that issue ^^ The 2 terms in Norwegian and Swedish are pretty much the same anyway, except Europe and Asia are referred to as Eurasia (when speaking about "continents"), as they are both the same single piece of land.

So yeah, I've got my terms under control now, they're 2 continents, but on the same tectonic plate ^^

  • @zebezd essentially yes

  • HCBaily , will you play Kingdom Hearts Ever???

  • I never knew that you get the magirocks back after you use the rings. °_°

Great vid, as usual. I love your editing and narration.

  • You need to do more "HCNavi" stuff ;p

  • Also, God, how I Love the World Control Room Music. It's amazing. ^_^

  • XD "Hello, this is HCNavi..."

Probably one of your best lines, HCBailly ^_^

  • the land where tower 2 is it, it's a gulf right?

  • That guy in magic shop has a funny animation.

Can't wait for the next episode,I'm really interested how the next tower looks like.

  • about the guy in magic shop and the other shop... when everybody was "frozen", they weren't, of course!, why not?

i know why elder didn't frozen, he went out, but the other two guys, i don't know

  • Maybe they used their magic power...''Who knows''.

  • For convenience's sake, probably. Best not to think about it too much, i think.

  • You REGAIN the magirocks?!!?! If I knew that before I would use magic more often, becouse I always thought that you lose it forever.

  • Okay, the magic system seems a bit odd and annoying.

  • 5:53 Sounds so...soothing...makes me feel so...so...*begins sucking thumb*...mom...my...*falls asleeps*

  • lol

    i was UN-FROZEN today

  • So -that's- why the game was never released outside Europe and Japan - the rest of the world was simply dead so long they missed the beginning! XD

  • Love the E. Honda reference.

  • Well, as long as you weren´t playing the lame CDi zelda games were they call it "rubies" (the makers just couldn´t get the name "rupees" right lol). Hey! Elle didn´t join you? What kind of Chrono game is... oh right Terranigma.

  • Love that snow scene. I'm playing along as I watch, but got stuck already so now I'm waiting for him to catch up, heh.

  • I forgot they played the boss music this early. I thought it wasn't until the fifth tower.

  • RE: the music at 5:19...That sounds like a track that SOMEONE has had to have made a remix to SOMEWHERE on the internet...*loads up Google and starts searching*

  • FOUND ONE! Just search YouTube for "terranigma resurrection remix AriesT"

  • There's a website called OCRemix, they have remixes of songs made by the public.

  • If the stove's been on the whole time, wouldn't the house burn down?

  • The sleeping music in this game sounds like the beginning of the song Pollyana from Mother 1!

  • I did NOT know Magirocks were returned when you used the rings. I avoided using them because I wanted to collect them all. That's VERY interesting to know. Thanks HCBailey.

  • It's cool how many different melee attacks you have right off the bat. Though I wonder how many people would know them all if they didn't have a guide in front of them.

  • You can check out your moves when you're inside the box, also they're not that hard to figure out.

  • the world music is probably my favorite song in this game. Its so sad and evil but also so meaningful sounding. Its amazingly epic. I love it. So much.

  • The music in Crysta reminds me of Radical Dreamers.

Also are you going to be playing Terranigma everyday like you did with Illusion of Gaia?

  • Really? Which song?

  • I meant Radical Dreamers from Chrono Cross.

    Should have been more specific.

  • I take it the remaining towers are a lot longer..? Indeed, these graphics are among the best I've seen on this system..Tales of Phantasia and Star Ocean are also up there, but I haven't looked at all of this game yet..

    HcNavi was hilarious..

  • Another way you could handle those huge knights is using the slice attack once to damage them then another time to get some distance. This can do a pretty good amount of damage.

  • what system is this 4?

  • @pokemonrulz10 SNES or Super Famicom

  • ty i might play along with this playthrough

  • This game has some of the best music I've ever heard on the super nintendo. :D

  • 0:24 AAATATATATATATATATATATA!!!

    0:29 You are already dead!

  • Yeah, the music was fantastic especially given it's an SNES game, as were the graphics. If you didn't know it was SNES you could almost call it N64. I don't know of too many games that put the graphics and music chip to full use except, maybe, Tales of Phantasia that had actual voice acting in it for the attacks and such.

  • Well, a lot of fighting games for the SNES used voice clips, although the quality was generally quite terrible.

  • Ah, never really got into the fighting games. But in RPGs I never heard voice acting until I got into FFX, almost (ToP being the exception) always it was text only, ambient sounds, and music but no voice acting. I'm hoping (hint hint, hope you are listening HC. :D) HC will do ToP at some point. It's been done but not by HC and that makes all the difference. :D

  • for me magic only good on the first real boss..other than that i go with melee

  • Man, this was an exciting ep! I also like the graphics and music. It's really getting interesting. Keep up the brilliant work, man! :)

  • why did you say hcnavi at the beginning oO

  • Watch episode 3 for the answer.

  • see previous episode.

  • You'd Best be FROZEN! had to say it lol.

I'm seriously starting to love the music for this game, and that snow background was really well made for a SNES game.

  • "Yaaay, baby music.'

XD! That's probably the funniest name you've given something in an LP so far.

  • You're really advertising the slicer move!

While it is great, I usually found myself using the slider move a lot more. The slider makes you keep running speed after it has ended, allowing you to make another slider, or you could quickly follow up with a slicer. Only problem with it is that it doesn't have the invincibility of the slicer, but the knockback usually works.

I found myself doing Slider-moves all the time whenever I traveled after a while.

Also, music is awesome for this game!

  • The Slider move is more useful when the extra damage is finish off the enemy. In my experience, that is usually not the case beyond Chapter 1, and I end up taking damage.

For my playstyle, the Slicer move helps me avoid damage a lot easier. Plus, if you just hold down the dash button, you don't lose your speed.

  • ...ok i tried to resist the temptation but it is just too much:

    I WAS FROZENNNNNNN TADAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry sorry everyone i just had to say that line

  • Also FROZEN CHICKENS FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What was that at 7:04

  • Souls that returned to their former bodies in the village of Crysta.

  • The music in this game is really one of my fav music of all time.

  • Made it to Chapter 2 thus far, and will wait for you to finish each chapter prior to my own succession. I always love to see how people do things differently.

On another note, thanks to your recommendation (subliminally of course, heh...) I've picked up the NES Dragon Warriors. I beat 1 just yesterday and am really enjoying two. I'm surprised to the amount I'm enjoying it, I can hardly put it down. Thanks for the recommendation!

  • Hc Navi?....ok! that can work

  • I can imagine it.

"Hey! Listen! Hey! Listen! It's a SECRET PASSAGE!"

  • Hey! Watch out! GAAAAAAME!

  • Watch out! For MON-STERS!!!!

  • The one thing I would've like to have known when I played this game, was that when you use magic you get the magirock back. I didn't find out until really late in the game.

  • Ark sure falls to sleep fast...i just think that looked funny!

  • the resurrection theme always gives me the chills

  • I always thought it was weird how the map is reversed in this game, but it would make sense that Japan puts themselves in the middle of the map. That must be how maps look in Japan.

  • @UberShyster Yep.

  • this game sort of reminds me of SNES Illusion of Gaia and it looks like fun

  • Maybe cause it's the sequel.

  • i hate it when u lose a puzzle piece sitting there for hours till u relize that u lost one :P

  • The first playthrought I have seen from the begining!!! imma be a regular viewer!!!

  • @Midgarelite

    welcome to the regulars.

  • rings at least make one particularly infamous boss a bit easier, still hard fight though

  • Regarding "felled" vs "killed," I think the translator made that choice because the former is a more literary word whereas the latter is too plain. It doesn't seem like a matter of censorship.

  • Apparently Quintent decided to use normal-sounding SNES sound effects in this game instead of the odd-sounding ones used from Actraiser - Illusion of Gaia for this game.

  • You should do a Crystalis LP.

Good vid keep up the good work.

  • a line from chrono cross uttered by HC himself. "I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE". in reference to Navi. XD

just kidding, it's hilarious! awesome job as always, HC. I've been playing this along with you so far. it's a great game already!
