  • is he Gay??

  • LOVE is doing what is right, no matter what you're told. Religion is doing what you're told, no matter what is right! That's all I need to say.

  • THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS GOD OR THE TOOTH FAIRY PEOPLE. HELLO. ALL MAN MADE CRAP. THE BIBLE IS ALSO CRAP AND HAS CAUSED MORE DEATHS IN THE WORLD THAN AIDS EVER WILL.

  • @fressen

Religion has been an occasional justification for evil people to do evil things, but it's also inspired a lot of good, and of course a lot of bad things have been done by the irreligious. Neither Hitler nor Stalin nor Pol Pot nor Kim Jong Il were men of Faith, they killed people in the name of racial or ideological purity.

  • Come on people! Lets take it one more level and drop all religions. You can be a good person without religion.

  • The "religion" or religious amaze me how they want to put all gays in hell (though thats not what they say, cause they think theyre all under demonic influence) but it's ok for them do do whatever they want with their so called spouse. What about the rest of the sin youll commit your whole life? The bottom line is, christians or those who dont want to take part in the relgious insitution, all claim grace , well gays are under that too! They can sit in a pew and expect to be forgiven but gays no.

  • Daily, more and more Christians are opening their hearts and ears to Gods voice of inclusion! God bless Christians like this. :) (God bless all Christians but very proud of Jay Baker).

  • Jay seems very sweet

  • There's no such thing as a real Christian, you fuckwits. If you really followed the Bible, you wouldn't even be sitting at a computer right now.

  • I like this guy! This is a REAL Christian. Its a shame that other so called Christians on this response post mock him, just becuase they still have Hate for gay people or fear of gay people, whichever.

  • @ 1:49 'gay affirming, which we don't think it is a sin'... obviously does NOT read the word of God. the Bible clearly says it is a sin in both the Old Testament and New Testament. not only does the Bible say its a sin but its an abomination

this man is a false teacher

  • @woddensoapbox I'd rather have a false teacher then an evil teacher.

LITERAL BIBLE GOD IS EQUAL TO SATAN.

  • @OneDollarMercenary God created everything including the angels, and satan was an angel. How are God and satan equal?

    Colossians 1:16 King James Version

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

  • @woddensoapbox Would you consider taking a look at a documentary called Fish Out of Water? It breaks down the passages that are found in the Bible regarding homosexuality. There are legitimate arguments that disagree with your statement. It may not change your mind, but maybe it will give you some perspective on another interpretation of God's Word.

  • He says he cannot understand Hell.. and how can a loving God allow Hell.... Then how does a loving God allow People living in tormenting situations on this Earth, People die everyday due to Hunger, People Die by Tsunami, Earthquakes, Babies are born with incurable diseases, born blind.... How does God allow that....Man this guy is confused....He has His own idea of God which is very confusing as his Father Jimmy Bakker

  • This guy Jay is confused..... No surprise.... He is the Son of a Confused Preacher.... Wont be surprised if he comes out later saying "I Was Wrong"....

  • this guy has a good head on his shoulders

  • @lilbeaveymac I disagree. But he DOES have a good heart in his chest. ^_^

  • Amazing

  • "Too much Grace, it's a slippery slope..." Oh my! That really is what some people think subconsciously....But I don't think I could ever have too much Grace. It totally changed my life!

  • Jay Bakker is adorable. And what a great heart.

  • "...We're NOT loving our neighbor as ourselves..." - Jay Bakker. So true. Even some Christians don't do this and this is what determines one's entrance into heaven. Thus, Jesus' goat/sheep story.

  • I love what Jay said: "...They (some Christians) get hung up on a few scriptures that really, in my opinion have been taken out of context...They almost let them (those few scriptures) trump love your neighbor as yourself. It's really a scary thing..."

This is scary because love thy neighbor as thyself is the Law Of Christ that is above ALL other laws. It is the summation of all other laws and some Christians don't live per Jesus' example. Especially in regards to gay people.

  • @JimmieLeeLyrics actually, the law that is above all the other Laws is the first commandment: 'love the Lord thy God with all thy heart'

    Matthew 22:33-39King James Version (KJV)

37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38This is the first and great commandment.

39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself

  • He is inspiring. More preachers should follow his example. Here's a scripture: GOD IS LOVE.

  • God is the most corrupted bitch ever. He purposely hardened peoples' hearts to deny him so he could then kill them and take the glory.

  • @VitiVxV That's not God doing all that. It's been all the ignorant people throughout time who were too shallow to see the real truth and using God's name or religion to validate it.

  • @dpfan1982 It's in the Bible and in the Koran when God does this. I am not going to bother looking up the verse in the Bible but the one of the first time it happens is when God hardens the Pharaoh's heart so that he won't let them go. It happens in the Koran and the very beginning of the Book of the Cow. God creates evil and, at the very least, he condones/promotes it. Corrupted, evil and a hypocrite.

  • God exists, religion is corrupted

  • Wow. I already adored Jay Bakker, now I love Don Lemon, too.

  • Christians who say being gay is Ok are the same as those whom say slavery is condemned in the bible! Ignoring the bible to adapt to modern society. Drop the bible and think for yourself!

  • Drop the bible, drop religion!

  • Someone please explain to me why an all-loving, all-knowing creator or life force would create a hell. This is nearly impossible for so many people to believe. Sounds more like a celestial, abusive father who chooses favorites.

  • @jeffloss18 God, the original Joseph Fritzl....

  • he knows what i know he has truth

  • excellent interview.

  • Finally! Thank God ~ literally!!! I am a mother of a transgender child and have suffered greatly under the religious umbrella my extended family (mother, brother, sister) hide under. My brother is a preacher and recently compared my child, who is 8 years old, to drug addicts & alchoholics that he counsels. Thank you Jay & thank you Joy!!!

  • @awalzful I am sorry that you and your child had to go through that, but it's really heart-warming to see parents who are understanding, and open minded about their children situation.

I am sure that we will be seeing more people like Jay in the religious scene, so it really does get better.

I wish you all the best.

  • Religion went through just too many make-overs that it became something else entirely.

  • @whyabadi Wow! You put that perfectly! Well said!

  • Seing spiritual leaders like Pastor Jay, Bishop Carlton Pearson, Michael Bernard Beckwith, Bishop John Shelby Spong, and many others, gives me encouragement that there is still a remnant of spiritual people that will not succumb to the stranglehold of mainstream organized religion.

  • Religion is completely and utter bullshit.

  • I agree with Jay Bakker on most things except that there is no hell. There will be a separation between Good and Evil - You cannot accept that victims and villains will be equally rewarded. Jesus is LOVE and if He commands us to love ALL PEOPLE, those of us who do otherwise will not share in His glory. Hell is not to be used as a scare tactic, because none of us know our end. We are instead to focus on the things Jesus focussed on and those are summed up in one word - LOVE.

  • Or Maybe we could all be atheists.

  • After reading the comments, there are a lot of "Christians" judging and posting hate language. Very nice of each of you to support Jay's point by demonstrating it! Jay was right!

  • I was so impressed with this interview that I placed it on my website page entitled: Lord My Child is Gay

Terry Angel Mason, Global Author and Intl. Columnist

  • Why am I just learning about Jay Bakker now?! I want to know so much more!

  • Really interesting.

  • 1I get annoyed when people play the "they arent real christians" /"they misinterpret" card

2yea it is out of context? BUT how do we decide what else is out of context? ten commandments, stoning your children, crucifixion?

    3. TRUST IN FAITH?!?! thats the problem!!!

4.BUT he IS a "horrible angry skydaddy" haha

    5. okok i like this guy but theres still some irony when his Christianity is based on the bible he MUST do his own picking and choosing ya know?

  • Jay is right about love-vs. fear-based Christianity. Hell has been used to control through fear. He is also right about Bell's book, "Love Wins," not going far enough. To go far enough read, "Spiritual Terrorism," by Dr. Boyd Purcell. Jesus said truth frees (Jn. 8:32). The truth is Biblical fire, salt, and brimstone/sulfur symbolize purification: Mal. 3:3; I Cor. 3:15; Mk. 9:49 (a mixed metaphor), 50; Heb. 12:29 (God is fire); Isa. (breath of God); Rev. 20:10 (for aeons, not forever).

  • Finally a christian that doesn't give Christianity a bad name. If there had to be religion in the world his would be one that I would pick.

  • @proatheism lol, except the funniest and most ironic part was when he said, "they read the Bible through particular glasses and see scripture in certain ways." Yeah, just like you did, Jay!

  • I'm not religious, but as a gay man I can definitely appreciate that he's teaching love and acceptance. I hope his ministry really helps people come to an understanding of love.

  • More people like you are just what America needs Jay. Love and light to you!

  • Gay, gay, gay, gay, gay, gay, gay, gay. Jay might want to get a new act.

  • I like this guy!

  • How sad a state America is in, when a man has to explain why he believes everyone is equal.

It's not exactly a new idea. Jesus talked about it all the time. Seems most "christian" people are spitting in the face of "their creator" these days.

Pathetic and very un-Godly behaviour. Satanic, even...

  • 8:10 it was Jesus who gave us hell. Matthew 10:28, 11:20-25, 25:41,46 John 15:6

11:10 John 20:29 "...blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed"

    11:55 Jonah 1:17 - it was a fish, not a whale

12:30 Check out Genesis 34, Exodus 15, Leviticus 1-9, Deut 32:39-43. I stopped reading every page and jumped over a lot after the first few books, because it's alternately boring and revolting, not good.

It's a wonderful godless world out here. Just walk away from this nonsense.

  • @rg0057 Actually, the modern Hell is found in Pagan mythology and the medieval church. The Hell that Jesus speaks of is actually gahenna (literally a garbage dump outside of Jerusalem) and Hades (an ancient word for underworld that literally translates as 'the unseen'). Oh, and Jonah, fish and whale are both accurate translations because the Hebrews only had one word for all those animals.

  • 2:15 Compare "love your neighbor as yourself" with "He that is not with me is against me" (Matt 12:30).

3:40 (both gentlemen's words) compare against "And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death." (Matt 10:21)

    "grace"? "all-inclusive"?

4:55 Lev 19:28 "Do not ... put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD." + Matt 5:17 "Think not that I ... destroy the law..."

  • Thank you Jay for showing what it means to have true faith and grace. you are a rare beacon of light to many.

  • Jay Bakker is the future of christianity!

  • @TheGuilanvi - Jay Bakker may be the future of those who are followers of God, which is not just limited to Christians and Christianity.

  • @TheGuilanvi Of course...as Col Sanders is the future of poultry.

  • You bring tears of joy to my eyes! Thank you so much for doing what you do!

  • Bravo ! Thanks for posting this , as well !

  • Bravo ! Thanks fo5 posting this , as well !

  • the bible is a wonderful work of fiction (not really all that well written actually) that has been used to justify murder and genocide among other things. There's far better stories in any anthology. Most people today have more morals than all abrahamic religions.

    read christopher hitchens

  • What a great voice for Christians. I hope Jay Bakker and others like him become THE public voice to drown out all the Rick Perrys, Michelle Bachmans, and their ilk.

  • It’s not a sin when god is imaginary and doesn’t exist.

  • the video of Tammy Faye in the background was from when she hosted Drasg Bingo in Durham, NC just before she was diagnosed with Cancer. Drag Bingo was an HIV/AIDS Fundraiser. She was an absolutely wonderful, sweet, caring woman and I am a blessed gay man to have known her!

  • @nicksfannc Dude, that is so fantastic!

  • AWESOME INTERIVEW! Jay gives voice to the TRUE problematic and fearful actions of the church, religion!!

  • I think I actually like this guy!

  • this guy is jus trying to get donations from the gays if he really read that book for him self he would see its bullish

  • 4:40 I'm not judging, I wonder who that sounds like? (HINT:"I'm running for president of the United States, and not to be anyone's judge.")

  • Jesus was a *Liberal*. He held hands with the marginalized, the forgotten, and the ignored. His mother was an unwed teenager and He had two dads.

The *church* said the world was flat and killed people who said otherwise.

    The *church* was wrong.

  • Jay, I wish I could study with you you are so amazing!

  • Jay is one of the FEW real christians out there. "christians" should follow his example and stop hating and start LISTENING and THINKING. Good for him for following the real message of Jesus.

  • @lamborghiniefa Ignorant homophobes go to hell.

  • @lamborghiniefa You are a fake "christian".

  • @JhonathanFree that really hurts lol

  • that really hurts lol

  • @lamborghiniefa If you had a soul, it really should hurt. Too bad you're dead inside. Good Luck with that.

  • @JhonathanFree don't get mad at me because your butt hurts

  • Religion needs to die. This was the real fluffy talk about religion but its still dangerous and it needs to end. Sorry Jay and Don stupidity thinking is never good even if its well intended.

  • I love his message. It is so refreshing.

  • much respect jay, i love wut ur doing. Christians really need to come out of this traditional mindset of "i do and believe wut im told" n really start to discover God for ourselves

  • I left Christianity over twelve years ago, and though it was (and still is) a good decision, I might not have if more folks like Jay had been around back then.

  • God loves his creation, but he is Holy. We are sinners. Sin cannot tarry in his sight. That's why Jesus came. To cover our sins. Hell was created for the Devil and his angels. God doesn't send anyone to Hell, people of their own free will, reject Jesus and can't come into God's presence, therefore have to be separated as far as possible from God. The farthest separation from Heaven is Hell.

  • @ivandurseryii Take your mental abuse and shove it where the sun doesn't shine

  • @ivandurseryii Good. That god character in the bible killed WAY more people than Satan. He seems like a real dick. I want to be as far away as possible.

  • I agree with Jay. Though I am straight I believe being gay is not a sin. That sayed even if it was church is made for sinners. church is ment to be there to help the sinners not to reject them.

  • If a Christian is preaching hate, he is not preaching Christianity.

  • Comment removed

  • @dafttool

    he is not preaching hate!

  • @yaytiffiyay NOT this guy. I'm talking about other religious leaders who preach hate

  • I will NEVER be a "Christian," because of the hate speech and cruelty I've endured in my life for being a Queer. It will take MILLIONS of voices like these before I'll be able NOT to automatically recoil and withdraw when someone identifies as a "Christian." When I hear it in the millions, MAYBE the fear will subside, but I think it's lifelong trauma.

  • I wish there were more Christians like him. I personally am not a believer, but I would be much less annoyed by Christians if they were like him. He is what Christianity is supposed to be according to the bible that I have read. I have seen too many of the other kind of Christians, and it's refreshing to see ones like him. I am of the belief that we all have the right to believe as we wish, but we do not have the right to judge others if they do not agree(and yes we've all been guilty of that)

  • I wish Don Lemon would replace Rev. Sharpton over at MSNBC.

  • @RedTory59

Uncle Sharpie's just "guest hosting" to see what the ratings look like...it's like try-outs.

I hope they hire Melissa Harris-Perry.

  • what's a shame about right wing "christians" who love to hate lgbt people, just like they hated the jews, 1 or 2 of their highest profile preachers will have a change of heart & announce their support of the gay community...cause that's what christ would do, & money's drying up!

gradually the entire southern group of haters will begin to change their minds, embrace the gay community & tell their supporters to send money so they can bring us into their lying fold.

    god damned bunch of hypocrites!

  • I feel that Jay is a great guy, but he is doing the same thing that he says other Christians are doing, he is reading the bible with rose colored glasses on.

  • @changingmyself I think it's more a matter of being able to see the forest instead of just the trees, acknowledging the spirit of the overall message instead of getting hung up on debatable particulars.

  • @changingmyself Maybe he's reading the Bible realistically and realizing that large parts of it don't make sense.

  • Awesome interview! Now, this is the Christianity that I wanna see much, muchmuchmuch more often.

  • Jay Bakker and his mother Tammy Faye are amazing. Love them

  • I want Don Lemon to get his own show like this.

  • Love your work Jay!

  • or some people just dont believe in christianity and whoooooo carreesssss

  • How refreshing!

  • By refusing to accept others for who they are, the church only hurts itself. By being more inclusive, they would act more like Christ , himself, and follow in his teachings.

  • @mrquiet2009 And as a result their profits would go up!

  • There's a great documentary about Tammy Faye on Netflix. Loves her!

  • Love your work Jay.....a beacon of light
