For the people asking whether they died or not, it's the way you want it to happen. In the novel, all 3 of em survive. Also, at the end you can hear the brakes of the train, so they could have survived. 2 of the cast members even announced that you can say that they survived, but the director did confirm that they didn't, so you can put it however you want. haha It's your decision.
