  • Love this movie. Also the point to this movie is to defeat sexism, and this was somewhat based on a true story

  • 1 person won't bring honour to us all

  • @nekosarah77

Well, yeah... People were really sexist in ancient times, especially ancient China (no offence intended, of course!)

And plus, there is sexism throughout the whole movie :P

  • That one person got confused..

  • awsom

  • i love this movie!! and this song!

  • UH HOW MANY YEARS AGO WAS THIS STFU AND LISTEN TO THE DAMN SONG. #dontmakeanysence

  • OMFG dude the whole movies is about defeating sexism and you guys all being herp derps by saying LISTEN TO THE SEXISM IN THE LYRICS -_________-

  • looks like the matchmaker disliked this video....probably jealous of mulan's awesomeness~!

  • People complaining about the sexisim need to watch the movie again. THAT WAS THE POINT! This was how girls were thought of back then. God!

  • You know most Disney songs/movies (or at least the old ones) ACTUALLY have MEANING right? You can say you like Old Disney, but it's obvious half the people here didn't even understand it :/

  • The lyrics are just being historically accurate /:

  • the people from those periods wanted sons to go fight and bring honor to the family the daughters were given off to who their parents or someone their parents trusted to set them up with a man of get honor and can support a big family while fighting any war they had going on.

  • i personnally love how the matchmaker looked after meeting mulan it suited her personallity *sorry for bad spelling*

  • @justkitteningaround you know what Mulan was about, right. She tricked the army in China into thinking she was a man to save her father. And she saved China. She wasn't meant to be a bride... and then Disney made a Mulan 2 and ruined it all. Mulan was an ancient Chinese folktale.

Girls in China in ancient times were made to do this... but not now. She was portrayed to have a mans features. She was a woman in a man's world at that time.

  • um i agree there is a bit of sexism, but its still a good song, i dont agree with everything the song says though

  • omg thumbs up if u <3 this song or you <3 disney!!!

  • is 'honour' in Mulan 'face'

  • it's a simple movie.... why do ppl have to complicate things..... it shows that if you're held down...you can rise above it...she was a girl in a mans world...she showed she can be just as great as any man...so stop complicating things..!!!!!!

  • Do you remember wanting to run through the plains of Africa with Simba? Swing through the jungle with Tarzan? Go to the enchanted castle with Belle? Go to the ball with Cinderella? Ride a magic carpet with Aladdin? Save China with Mulan?Shrink to toy size to play with Buzz and Woody? Turn into mer-people and go under the sea with Ariel?

If you want Disney to bring back movies like this re-post this comment maybe the Disney Corporation will see it and get their heads on straight

  • "even you can't blow it" ummmmm. . . . i thunk she blew it

  • "How could any man say "No Sale" LOL

  • Great job, but just one thing: Its "like a lotus blossom soft and frail" THANK YOU FOR THE LYRICS!

  • i love it

  • i LOVE CHINA!!!

  • i love how when they put the lip stuff of mulan it's painted on. it looks really pretty how they do it.

  • i find it funny people are so offended when this part is about the whole being pretty and perfect to find a husband, in that time that's all you had as a woman back then. mulan is about honoring family, but also being true to yourself above it all and not conforming to others.

  • Yay!! I found it!

  • Scarier than the undertaker,

    We are meeting the Matchmaker!

    Oh boy O.O

  • one question:

how can you be "soft and palm"?

  • i'm not critizing the video or the song, but was a girl's only job back then to bear kids!???? That's freaky! And disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • They sing this song so beutifully! :)

  • i luv the part on 1:27 when one she getting compliments and two how they seperate the part with three ppl singing at different times!!!i learned how to play it on my saxophone and i taught my friends and when we played it on different times it sounded as gud as fukk man!!!!btw nice lyrics dudez!!!

  • omfg you people. Seriously.

Hurr durrr nurrr theres sexism in the lyrics.

Well YEAH. That's what THE ENTIRE MOVIE WAS ABOUT.

I think too many of you people missed the point.

  • @itsAvirusxox it kindof of was sexism, but it was also to show that girls can do what guys can so we are not property to the guys

  • @itsAvirusxox totally agree with you there

  • @itsAvirusxox but in the end she proves that no woman has to be held down because of what people say. They have to set that up so u can see the lesson.

  • great job with the video.

  • @18steps thanks =)

  • Only one word seems wrong to me, and that's the 'palm' bit. I think it's s'posed to be 'pale'... but the rest of it fits :) I kinda like this song, and YES, WE GET IT, THIS SONG IS SEXIST BUT THAT'S HOW THEY THOUGHT THEN AND WHAT THE FILM IS ALL ABOUT. Please, PLEASE stop going on about it! XD

  • Umm...the whole movie is about Mulan overcoming sexism...of course the song would have something to do with that...

  • Yes, this is a very sexist song, but that was how women were regarded in Ancient China.

  • This is how girls were supposed to be in china at this time. stop complaining.

  • Being call a "cultured peral" and a "perfect porcelain doll" is nice and all but only being seen as someone to bear sons is not. Or being called a "sow's ear"

  • @DarkHeart1018 i didnt realize how deep this song was until everyone started finding these hidden lyrics. i wonder what other disney movies do the same..

  • @Riixox they do,look at the hunchback of notre dame

  • @DarkHeart1018 You do know that Mulan was based in classical- post-clasical times :P Meaning that it was a strongly patriarchal society. I guess Disney just wanted to keep it real in certain ways ^_____^

  • no u're not.

I see sexism in it as well....its pathetic! :(

  • am i the only one who sees some sexism in the lyrics? just asking

  • @nekosarah77 haha. well when you study it it kinda does. lol but its a disney movie so no ones really gonna look that far into it

  • @Riixox

Lol it was a sexist movie at first, it was like that back then. Girls were to have children and keep up the house, while men tended to battle and stuff.

  • @Riixox For what little historical accuracy there was in the film one thing Disney got right was the sexism. It was just how things were back then especially in ancient China. Ancient China was nothing like today's world. In that time men and women had very different and strictly set roles in society.

  • @nekosarah77 i definatly see sexism in it but when you think of the time period this takes place in, it's kinda the way they thought back then.

  • @nekosarah77

    no ur not!

its really sexist. its pathetic! but i guess thats how things were in those times...

  • @nekosarah77 Yeah, It's supposed to be since that's how women were treated back in ancient China.

  • @nekosarah77 the whole movie is about sexism how mulan was defined by her sex and had a set place in society whereas she felt called towards a more noble cause

  • @nekosarah77 That's because it's anciet China, it's contextual. Back then all women were seen as breeding machines. Which is why this movie is wonderful. Mulan proves all her relatives wrong and fights and shows great braver just as well as, if not better than any man.

So it's not disney being conspirational. It's just an authentic touch to the movie.

  • @nekosarah77 Cause that's what china was like at the time.

  • @nekosarah77 yea but you must remember in the time this is set china was quite a sexist country as were most i presume

  • @nekosarah77 It's not sexism. Well, it sort of is, but it's just Chinese culture.

  • @bjeastasia

    plus its cool :D

  • @creatures0blood Yeah, that too! :D

  • @bjeastasia

    lolz :D

  • @nekosarah77 um no i see alot

    lol

  • @nekosarah77 lol, this is very much sexism, but sexism wasn't wrong in the time period Mulan took place in where women couldn't do shit and that was the whole lesson in this movie. Women aren't just objects who take care of the house and bear children, they can actually DO something.

  • @nekosarah77 There is sexism, but you need to understand, this takes place in ancient china, a time of great Sexism. Disney isn't being evil, it's being culturally relevent, sad but true, women were only seen as tools for making children. That's one of the things that makes mulan such a great story, thinking of how women were treated during that time makes her even more of a hero, because Mulan stood up in a time where women's feet were bound so tightly they couldn't walk.

  • @nekosarah77 Well, of course there is sexism. The whole movie is about a girl who no one expects to amount to anything except being graceful and a good cook and bearing sons, but who saves the whole China. This is where she's still trying to fit in, out of familial loyalty. If you have actually seen the movie you know how well that goes.

  • @nekosarah77 yeah, and that's what the whole movie's about?

    ...

  • @nekosarah77 That's the point. The major themes in the movie are sexism, female empowerment, and coming of age. China was (and still is) very sexist. Women were the baby machines who bore sons to honor the family/ancestors. I'm Chinese, and although I have little interest in romance and none at all in sex, my relatives always try to set me up with men whenever I visit them because it's still "the greatest honor" for a woman to bear a son, no matter how successful and accomplished she is.

  • It's TIGHT and PALE not soft and palm!!!!

  • @Lumps27 i got the lyrics off the soundtrack a whileeee back. i guess its wrong. thanks tho. it does sound correct tho. i have to check

  • Thanks for making sure that the lyrics didn't fade in, It's impossible to read them when they does that

  • i can never get that part i love buth the movies 1 and 2 but there is less fighting in mulan 2 just for anybody who hasnt seen it

  • this is much beter then faa mulans true history.. i love this movie

thanks for posting and good job!

  • 'we all must serve our emperor who guards us from the huns

men by bearing arms girls by bearing sons'

    :0

i never knew that was in there. historically accurate, but most disney movies give girls confidence!

oh well, they all have little hidden things in there!
