  • Dude the esper that carries ultima is ragnarok... but that is only in the wor.

  • Too bad level 100 doesn't unlock a cure for Aspergers Syndrome

  • The Dino forest east of Narshe is the best exp in the game. You can get everyone experience eggs and marvel shoes pretty easily with a few colosseum battles to make it even faster.

  • Great job utilizing the gaming systems! Let me know if you plan on streaming again, and I'd love to see it

  • I've been wanting to stream on Livestream for a long time (months now), but overlay or audio-video synchronization is the only thing stopping from doing it. If you can kindly tell me how to disable overlay either systemwide or in my TV tuner's software (I have the "AVerMedia Hybrid TV Volar MAX" TV tuner (exact string), if that helps). Disable overlay and I'll be back at streaming again.

  • Why would anyone actually grind manually in World of Balance? Just use the Lete River to autolevel yourself forever. If you leave it set to auto hit A, youll drive around in circles in the river forever, and Banon will keep healing your party to full.

  • Ragnarok gives ultima, its at a secret area in one of the Narse shops, i trained everyone for the final area.

  • @audiolols You can also learn Ultima from the Paladin Shield (Ultima x1). I prefer this method because betting the Ragnarok sword at the colosseum and winning gets you Illuminaire- the best sword in the game (for fighters, it always crits using magic; for magic users, it offers massive stat buffs). You only need to win 255 battles while equipping the Cursed Shield to unlock the Paladin Shield. Takes ~1hr spamming the suicidal rats on the first island in WoR.

  • I've just powerleveled instead, learning magic while at it. There's an enemy in a certain desert in the second world that gives 10 magic points and another that gives 5, the fastest magic learning around.

  • give me back my 9:23 =(

  • it's pokémon MDR

  • Random funfact: You're slightly more likely to encounter Intangir in the forest than you are in the field on Triangle Island. I use him to grind out spells. Gau's Rhodox Rage makes short work of him, and there's no Meteo counter.

Odds of encountering Intangir in the grasslands: 5/16.

Odds of encountering Intangir in the forests: 6/16.

  • Your Exp : Too Much

  • Actually, another way to end the battle with Intangir quicklly...

If you have a powerful Step Mine attack, bring Strago and Relm. Cast stop, and then have Strago use step mine. Relm can following by sketching for another step mine. Since you are on the PS1 version, I don't think you have to worry about that glitch.

  • so kool!!

  • 3:51---If you equipped Magus Hat, White Dress, and an elemental sword...and put on a second earring....wonder how much MP damage you would do in the cave? Think it would reach 9000 or more?

  • It bothers me how you are showing off something anyone can do with normal non "no lifing" gameplay =_=

  • Uh, you sound like Mr. Garrison. Mmkay..

  • 2:17---"Oh Wow!"

  • Another thing. Ultima and Meteor are NOT allowed in this challenge! You are NOT to use them in any FF game!

  • I also love how astonished and excited you got when you saw Ultima in the spell menu @2:18 in the video!

  • You might as well have increased your magic all the way up to 128. Stat bonuses for magic power still add to the damage calculation IIRC. Just watch out for damage overflow.

  • I'd also like to see Merton in use.

  • Besides myself, you are one of a few that has the patience to do any kind of major grinding. I have another challenge for you. Try doing a completionist game...all rages, items, spells, etc. The only restriction...no excessive level grinding! =P

  • I'm not that kind of player and, thus, it won't happen. I never go for 100% in RPGs.

  • @ulillillia

Do you do heavy grinding in all the RPG's you play? I don't usually... Sometimes, when a character leaves you early (and you never use them endgame), I like to see how powerful they can get. The only real grinding I did was with Tellah, Dark Knight Cecil, Palom and Porum, and then Alys from PS4-----> That game is also a pain to gain levels. You will have fun with that one! It was really neat seeing Alys and Hahn in the 60's.

  • @ulillillia Merton is not junk! Equip your party members with Fire shields and use merton! You get an insane magic attack combined with a Cure 3/Curaga spell on your characters! It's an amazing strat

  • Dude, that's not healthy!

  • W Wind is what I would consider Junk...but Merton.. Naaaaaaaaah!

  • Did you ever manage to get to Lv. 99 with Tellah? I saw an old comment where I challenged you to do that about a year ago.

  • No. I do, however, have Cecil at level 70 on Mount Ordeals on the SNES version. Needing over 100K exp is really slowing things down. At least, since agility is increasing, I can clear out the enemies faster. Unless Tellah comes in later (I don't remember much after Mount Ordeals) and everyone's level matches Cecil's upon leaving, then, yes, I will get a level 99 Tellah, along with a level 99 everyone else. Reaching level 99 in the first place is something I haven't done before.

  • @ulillillia

Oh! You mean you have Dark Knight Cecil at Lv. 70? In that case, if you have not picked up Tellah at Mt. Ordeals, he will already be at the desired level. It is sure easier to level Cecil and the Twins.

I still can't believe it took 208,000 exp to level Tellah up. When I finally got him to Lv. 99, he still sucked. His magic was average at best, as the twins probably did twice as much damage if I recall correctly.

  • Actually, that's paladin Cecil at level 70. I just got the others' HP to 0 so I can focus all the exp on Cecil. Except for early on, powerleveling as dark knight Cecil is pointless. With a level 70 paladin Cecil without having left Mount Ordeals, everyone that joins the party later will be level 70. I intend on reaching level 99 on Mount Ordeals with paladin Cecil before leaving, but I've actually never been beyond level 83 or something and getting the 200,000 exp is rather crazy.

  • @ulillillia

Tellahs physicals were obviously horrible, even at 99. Though, I admit that it was quite impressive to see him pulling 400 plus damage starting about Lv. 80. This is surprising, seeing that I never thought I would see the day when he would even break 100 damage with a rod or staff!

  • The multiplier is important. If I recall, for every 8 on strength and 16 on agility, the multiplier increases by 1. Level 70 Cecil has something like 11x or 12x. The equipped weapon also affects the multiplier.

  • @ulillillia

I did not know that--interesting. Something else I didn't know is that after Lv. 70, every character has the potential to go down in one or more stats. Who knows? I could get Tellah stronger!

His multiplier ended up being 5x and attack was 79. I can't remember if I had to berserk him to get 400 damage, but this was before weaknesses. This is also assuming he has the silence staff... And to get this without a game genie...ok, that is a whole different story! lol

  • A little tip to you all: if you want to beat the intangir, use X-zone while its invisible. Works everytime. In fact, if you want to kill anything quickly in this game use two steps:

Step 1: Cast vanish on enemy

    Step 2: Cast X-zone

    Step 3: Win!!

  • @dthdgfhdfgh Death is better to use while it's invisible....

  • @dthdgfhdfgh Or Doom. You can get it a lot quicker than X-Zone.

  • Ragnorak gives you ultima in World of Ruin

  • I discovered that a lot later. At the time, I couldn't find Locke (the odd green area in a star-shaped area) which is why I didn't get it. I prefer meteor over ultima though - far better effect and the 9999 damage limit makes ultima just as effective so there really isn't much benefit to it outside the first stages of leveling up using the fastest and easiest method in the game (level 30 to 99 in only 80 minutes).

  • i don't remember exactly of the SNES version but i think terra and celes learned those skills without espers/magicites because both girls can do magic naturally , terra being duaghter of a human-woman & esper man, and celes for being experiment of kefka by using magic on her.(or magicites, don't remember that part really 8/)

  • The SNES version is exactly the same as the PS1 version in this case - I got Celes with meteor in the first world as well, from reaching level 98. I have yet to work on Terra for this, but she should be the same as well - level 99 for ultima. Celes, by the way, was infused with an esper.

  • oh ok ok =D

sorry i didn't remember that part of celes well D:

  • Merton Junk? Just have fire nullifying or better, absorbing equipment and you will like it..

  • I like meteor much better. In fact, once I gain access to it, it becomes my primary attack, more so than physical attacks. Not only is it my top favorite effect in all FF games, it's also a powerful and effective attack.

  • @ulillillia

Meteor is cool too--don't get me wrong. But don't you like the healing that you get from casting Merton? With those flame shields, you cannot go wrong.

  • @kaiser5676

This is one of my favorite spells.

  • @kaiser5676 I logged in to recommend a flame shield for absorb or ice shield for nullification. I believe armors also have it. 2nd world for them but still eventually useful.

Targeting everything to heal you and hurt them w fire rocks....Merton FTW!!!

  • @kaiser5676 i was going to say the same thing......when properly equipped, it can be a really damm good spell.

  • Merton definitely is NOT junk. Especially if you have Fire Shields. It's the equivalent of Quake + Gaia Gear.

  • Dude, your voice sounds like Mr. Garrison from South Park.

  • see 9999 that's the max damage for the spell until later.

  • ya but what some people don't know is when final fantasy 6 came out for the advance the 9999 is just a damage reader. in other words the game can't process the higher damage readings. so if you see 9999 it doesn't mean that's all the damage you hit with it means you hit 9999 or higher. true fact took me forever to figure that out. now the bugged part is spells that deal 9999 more of less right off the bat i.e. Ultima that is bugged until the user is lv99 so when you use Ultima and you

  • "The game can't process damage values above 9999" - that depends on the variable type used. Sprintf supports up to 9 2/9 quintillion, at least. A 16-bit value goes up to 65,535, clearly above "the nines". I've used meteor at level 99 on hoover, but I can't defeat it in one hit even with magic attack at 112 or something. Ultima and regular physical attacks also do the same damage regardless of the level.

  • I suspect you are right about Terra learning Fire 3 at ~Level 43; I distinctly recall Celes learning Ice 3 at Level 42.

  • There are three ways to get ultima: Terra at lvl 99, break the curse on the paladin shield, and the ragnarok Magicite.

  • what esper did you use coz some give exsta bounuses like strength, magic, mp% and hp % when you level up. If you go to the seceond world then all the other charictors are at celes's level do they lose the bonuces? i think i'v made my self clear in this but tell me if im not XP ok... love your work dude keep it up :)

  • Bismark is best for strength, adding 2 every level up. Tritoch and Zoneseek (or the one from Jidoor's auction) are best for magic attack, adding 2 per level up. By the way, Celes alone does not determine the resulting level everyone in the second world would start at. I got Locke to level 50-something with no one else in the 50's or above in the second world and Locke remained at the 50-something he left off with. If level goes up in the second world, you lose out on bonuses.

  • @ulillillia thanks for this :) i'll just have to train every one up here then :P again love your work, paticular the ff12 level 99 at the start i did that my self XD

  • It takes 10 hours per character to do that (120 total hours). For the most part, when you're supposed to go to the floating continent, avoid going there for now and level up everyone about 5 to 10 levels (this is reasonably quick - make sure you get Mog too) except Celes, Sabin, Edgar, and Setzer. Level up Locke 15 to 20 levels instead. Get Mog as soon as you can in the second world, grab the moogle charm where Mog was and equip it on Mog with him in the party to stop all encounters.

  • lol the only ff game where i actually got max stats and max materia is obviously ff 7 not hard to do just took a lil time to get enough elixers to do it

  • is there a cheat for this

  • I'm unaware of any. I just spent roughly 20 or so hours constantly battling adamanchyts and slurms in the cave near Thamasa with just one character. With vanish status, you're invincible - just be sure to always use magic on the adamanchyt - fire is a good choice (the slurms are weak against it too) as it uses little MP. You'll need to osmose often - use it on the adamanchyt to restore 50 at a time.

  • WAY, WAY too much time on your hands. Some advice man, lete river, and autofiring so that the game automatically attacks.

  • @xelink

    also, doom pwns intangir.

  • Do that and you won't be able to heal nor make use of esper bonuses....

  • @ulillillia wow, are you that much of a no-life nerd?

  • Merton isn't junk if you're equipped with any fire-absorbing equipment.

  • If you want to show off, finish Kefka with characters at avg lvl 6, rounded down.

  • lol didnt know old people play ff XD

  • In the GBA version of FF6, its possible to defeat Intangir in two turns. You use Confuse/Muddle on one of your other three characters and get that character to quickly use a Smoke Bomb before the animation of the spell finishes. If the spell doesn't MISS, that character will use the Smoke Bomb on Intangir instead of your party and Intangir will counter with Meteo on that character before fleeing. You still get the 10 Magic Points. Not sure if it works on the SNES or PSX version though.

  • And on the SNES version, you just cast Death (or was it called Doom?) or X-Zone and it dies due to a bug with the Vanish status. It's just not as rewarding using a cheap method to kill him compared to whacking it to death.

  • It's doom, from the esper "shoat", if I recall. It's also "doom" in the PS1 version. Vanish status makes you vulnerable to all magic - you cannot evade any magic attacks with it. Of course, spells like meteor (my top favorite) and ultima cannot be evaded with or without vanish. However, any physical attack will always miss which makes it useful for areas where enemies only use physical attacks, such as the cave where the experience-heavy (for the first world) adamanchyt is found.

  • @FantasyAlert41 What works in every version is to have Gau use the Rodox rage. He'll cast Snare, killing Intangir instantly.

  • Both the Ragnarok esper and the Paladin's Shield teach Ultima at a x1 rate.

  • you know, if you just find the Ragnarok esper in the 2nd world, you can get Ultima without Terra at level 99

  • I found that out in later plays. I didn't have it because I didn't know where Locke was. I've since found all 14 characters and I know this rather easy game quite well.

  • Comment removed

  • how do u target more than one target with fire on GBA version?

  • I cannot answer this. In the PS1 version, just press R1. In the SNES version, I believe it was R.

  • ok ty anyway ill try that

  • What console is this version of FF6 on? It can't be SNES because the text looks different and the musical instruments sound a little different.

  • The PS1. At the time, I didn't have my SNES, so I could only get this version (FF Anthology). I've later played the SNES version and noticed several differences. Instead of "chicklip" as it is in the PS1 version, it's "chickenlip". There are many other such differences. The music is also different, though only slightly. The PS1 version seems to have more treble and better bass than the SNES version.

  • I have a hard time believing you'd spend 24 hours leveling 2 characters and not spend 5 minutes looking up how to get Ultima on gamefaqs.

  • The point of this video was to show off. Originally, I wanted just meteor in the first world. That changed upon realizing that, with Celes at level 99, everyone obtained in the second world is also level 99. This, however, is a good place to get Locke up a few levels, along with characters you don't see for a while in the second world.

  • final fantasy 6 was a job well done game, liked it alot.

  • the ragnarok esper teaches ultima. u find it in narshe in the weapon shop in the World of Ruin, bout u need locke to open the locked door

  • Ultima Looks Like Luminare....

  • You could get level 99 with just Terra alone while escaping from those guards, before that big battle. Of course, with getting only 50 or so EXP per battle, it'll take potentially months, but it's still doable.

  • something constructive.

There is a easy way to get all characters to level 99 in the WoB.

Just after you get banon, go outside instead of jumping on the raft.

Level the party till banon is lvl 8. Put everyone in back row, and cursor option is set to "remember" now hop on the raft.

At the first choice say "up". Set banon to pray, Edgar to Autocrossbow, Terra and Sabin "fight", and "A" button to automatic turbo.

This will run like so for several hours, but everyone will be 99...

  • ... but you won't get any stat bonuses from espers. Get the Zoneseek esper (for magic +2) and Bismark esper (for strength +2) and have both a physical and a magic user together. Banon does not have a "pray" command. He has "health". Plus, "attack" or the similar "fight" ("fight" for pre-FF7 games, except the remakes (1 and 2 for sure)) is the default option. It always is in all FF games (8 changes it to mug and 7 has "slash-all" and "Yx-cut" where Y is 2 or 4)).

  • How about this challenge? Use a level 30 (or less) party to defeat Intangir and use no spells except maybe stop, slow, and cure in battle. I got more of a challenge with this type of fight than I did with any bosses before getting Relm and Strago.

  • You can't attack Intangir with physical attacks. Plus, after a while, he escapes anyway....

  • set ur coursor to remember last command in config and it IS called pray in the GBA version instead if health

also, if u have a bad ass snes turbo controller, u can set up sabin for blitzes instead of just fight.

but i agree with u, esper bonuses are a must for low level playing

  • ok this is CRAZY to make lvl 90+ on first world o_o'

  • It took nearly 10 hours per character. The case of going from level 98 to 99 took 30 minutes right there alone, let alone the case from 97 to 98, 96 to 97, and so on... from 30 or so.

  • Unfortunately for him, since his Celes is level 99, everyone who joins in WoR will be level 99 too, which means that he cannot get perfect stats unless he levels....everyone...to level 99.

Additonally, since he doesn't have Mog yet, Mog is ruined and has minimum level 11 stats permanently.

Also, Ultma and Merton do 9999 to everything even if your magic stat is minimum, so if you plan on spamming those, there is no good reason to put bonus points in Magic; save them for speed and str...

  • This was actually an experiment/thriller that I wanted to do. Ever heard of backup files? Before I started this, I was level 30 with Celes and Terra. At the time, I didn't know how to get Mog. I do now - go to Narshe and LoneWorf is spotted. I usually get magic to 105 with basic equipment using my fastest leveling ground in the WoR after getting everyone. I go from level 40 to 99 in under 2 hours, usually 80 minutes for magic users and 100 for physical users (I have a video of this).

  • I did exactly this with FFIV back on the SNES. I wanted to see what Tellah would do in damage at LV 99. It is actually possible to see him do over 400 damage! That is still pathetic compared to the other characters at Lv. 40. Let me tell you, it took literally over 70 hours to complete this experiment. Leveling certain characters (like Tellah) in FF4 takes a looooong time, whereas FF6...it is easy to level up. Very odd...

  • I have yet to reach level 99 in FF4. With 200,000 EXP needed for a level around 80, I may need 10 million before I max out....

  • Merton is actually potentially better than Ultima in any case except where the enemies are immune to fire or wind.

All you do is wear fire absorbing gear and its basicly like casting Ultma and Curaga both in one spell.

Wear all fire absorbing or negating gear (flame shield, red jacket, paladin shield, ice shield, minerva.)

In a high level game you can then have every characer cast Merton every turn and you cannot die because you auto heal like 4 times as fast as the enemies deal damage.

  • Only Terra can get Merton. Otherwise, you'll have to be in the World of Ruin and have, I think, Crusader. Either that, or its Raiden (not sure which), then make use of the desert where hoover and cactrot are for the fastest magic-learning.

  • Okay i have alot to say, metron is one of the best spells in this game besides ultima, all you have to do is get the fire resistance or get the armor that allows fire damage to heal you, basically it does a shitload of damage and it heals you! also to find the ultima esper take locke to narsh in the second world and go to the wepon shop, you will find a man who will offer u the ragnorock, or what not. take it, it gives you ultimate, ALSO once you get crusaders it will let you learn meteor by 10

  • Not gonna lie, your a bit of a nooob, i know everything about this final fantasty, need any hints or way to level up i nthe forest without being hit, its easy ALSO to get the ultima esper, you go to narsh in the second world, and u bring locke, the doors will be locked so you have to have him unlock them for you, in the wepon shop there will be a man sitting there offering to give you a sword or a esper, take the esper and BOOM theres your ultima my friend :).

  • LOL

I have a stupid question to ask..what exactly does nooob mean?

  • nooob means someone who is new at a game and thus isnt as good at is as someone with experience

  • You do realize that Celes and Terra both learn spells with or without an esper right?

  • How would I have known about Celes getting meteor on level 98 or Terra getting ultima on level 99?

  • I guess you hate merton because of the lack of equipment to absorb it? Believe me, you would love it when you finally got fire absorbing equipment.

  • ohhhh.... ohh where to begin.... i really am at a loss here as to how i should even start. kk, first off, you said 4 or 5 times, that this is the only way to get ultima, idk if you ment only way to get in the WoB, but theres 4 ways of getting it, 3 of them any character can do. as for merton, i personally agree with you about it being junk, the other ppl posting have a point with the fire shields, but eh, theres better spells/skills for everyone, oh, and for the sabin doing 34000 dmg.... sec

  • what ive found that works best with offering, surprisingly enough, is celes, lvl 99, atma weapon and illumina, genji gloves and the offering as relics, and just finish her armor and helm from the genji set, she usually hits around 5k with the illumina, and all 9's with the arma, so around 60k dmg. the really funny part was, when i was lvling her, i did it as a caster, so she has 85 mag. power, and only 49 vigor.

  • aannnnddd finally to answer a few last questions i saw in the thread, the cursed items, someone already said ya get the pally shield from the cursed shield, the best way to do this, is on the WoR (world of rune, WoB is world of balance) the island celes starts on, those mobs have almost no hp, and die on the 2nd round anyway, great spot to knock out those 255 battles, also, strago, with hero ring and a healing rod equiped, make the cursed shield a good thing, he heals you for a few k every turn

  • kk, next thing, the boss in kefka's tower, i cant remember if he still pops the ultma at the end, but cast vanish on him, and then hit him with ether doom, or x-zone, i think your best bet is doom, they usually dont pop there "death" spell with it. kk missing espers, if you get every esper in the game, your gonna have 1 spot still open, if you get the sword, instead of the esper ragna-however the hell you spell it, you'll have 2.. duh hehe, hope that saves some looking for a missing esper

  • kk, last post i think, figured id do one just for ragnarok, being that most ppl seem pretty set on one or the other. to be honest, i get the sword, the esper dosent teach you anything you dont already get, whereas the sword just by itself is ok, but if you take it to the arena and bet it, in WoR, you get the illumina, the best sword in the game by far, the stats on it are..

+7 to vigor, speed, stam, mag power

+50% mblock and evade (so sick)

and i heard that having 255 battle power was good...

  • lol thinking about the arena, i figured id post a few really smart items to bet, some ways to get some of the best loot in the game

    Tintinabar - Exp. Egg

    Rename Card - Marvel Shoes

    Elixir - Rename Card

    Marvel Shoes - Tintinabar

... guess i shoulda posted those in the right order at least... ah well

Hero Ring - Pod Bracelet(if you need def over power)

Czarina Gown - Minerva(best armor in the game for the lady's)

    also, 1 more post... lol

  • kk, this really is the last one, hopefully this helps some of y'all out there still playing this epic game, theres a semi-well known bug that pretty much makes evade useless and makes mblock take over its job, if you get 128% mblock, skills that can be blocked, will be, heres some gear to help you get there

    Enhancer (+20%)

    Force Shld (+50%)

    Bard's Hat (+10%)

    Force Armor (+30%)

    White Cape (+10%)

i personally suggest that you go with the mblock gear if your doing the arena

  • or for Pimp Version Celes illumina(50%) enhancer(20%) bards hat (10%) force armor(30%)

and the genji gloves/offering as relics, she's just about unstoppable in there

  • where in the cave is this!?

  • Are you referring to where I leveled up a lot? It's the cave with the 3 golden statues. Go anywhere in the cave where you're not outside of the cave, such as where the save point is (my preferred area).

  • phew, i had a save file right before the forced Kefka battle, i found it and Terra is level 60 right now XD i love the fast-forward feature on the emulater

  • 2:20 you never use it?! WTF? Merton is a badass spell, you should post a video to show it's power.

  • For me, it means certain game over or certain death to one or more characters.

  • Flame shields can prevent that... Merton is VERY powerful, and for those who cant equip shields, the Merit Award Relic will likely help...

  • Guessing by the horrid delay between battles that this is the psx version? -_-'

  • Exactly. I've never seen the SNES version so I don't know how different it is. I find it strange how the PSX is unable to draw 10 32x32-pixel sprites while it can draw 3D scenes smoothly with considerable detail. That's not right and hints to a class 4 bug in the design of the PSX version. Class 4 as it results in loss of control (Blitz has failed a few times because of it and I often select the wrong command because pressing "down" doesn't cause anything to happen at times).

  • Actually, if you know how to use it properly merton can be better than both ultima and meteor. It attacks with the fire element, so the trick is to give all your characters a flame shield of something similar and you will deal 9999 damage to your enemies and heal you guys by 9999 of course you'll have to progress into the 2nd world to get it but hey...

  • I apparently have four espers remaining, the one for getting merton, another for getting pearl, and two others (since it appears that there are 28 slots for espers. In addition, if meteor is doing 9999 damage to enemies as is (could be 11,000 if it wasn't for the annoying damage limit), then what sense is there in using merton, considering that I only have two items that absorb or provide immunity two fire (and I've got all 14 characters as well).

  • well if they absorb fire damage, it will heal your guys by 9999, so it completely restores your characters with the same spell that devastates your enemies

  • With my setup, even though only Terra has it (I haven't found the esper for it yet), Sabin is doing more damage to an enemy than merton could, nearly 34,000 for most enemies (hint: offering + atlas armlet + maxed vigor + level 99). I'd rather take that route considering that I practically never have to heal anyone as it is (and cure 3 does 9999 HP in restoration). Quake is the only unfocused spell I use. I don't know any safe guards against using W Wind though....

  • Here's a leveling up challenge for you. Beat the game with only Setzer, Edgar, and Celes in the second world (no other characters join). That's an impressive challenge, and it's fun to play through the game without the Phoenix esper.

  • You forgot about Sabin in that rescue event. Right now, I'm focused on getting an economizer in that forest with the dinos. I did that magic-only tower event with level 40 and 50 characters, but the final boss's ultima attack caused annihalation so I leveled Celes to 75 (soloing where, in 5 battles, I got 5 levels (!); hint: find "reachfrog" and vanish before fighting them). So far, I have Celes, Sabin, Edgar, Setzer, Mog, Umaro, Cyan, Terra, Gau, Relm, and Strago in the order I got them.

  • Sabin's an optional character, even if it's convenient to get him. The only way I know of to survive the tower boss's Ultima spell is with Life 3.

  • Tower boss? Do you mean the magic tower? It does about 5300 damage so if you get a character with at least 6000 HP and keep that character fully healed at all times, you can then survive it. I didn't have access to Phoenix yet. I do, however, have 14 characters. I now have Locke, shadow, and Gogo on top of what I listed directly above If "crusader" is one, then there are 15 in the game. You could also rasp the tower boss to 0 MP as well to make it useless, but this will take a while.

  • you commented on the number of MP it costs, I for one NEVER cast Ultima, or any of the other high level spells without an economizer, and is getting to level 99 in the first world really worth it?

  • I was actually doing an experiment. I thought that, by having a few characters on level 99, favorites, and the rest being weak, I thought I could have that character gain every level again allowing for more stat bonuses. I proved it false yesterday (so yes, I entered the second world). I love using meteor, even though it's 62 MP to use. Hint: osmose. Using osmose on chicklip restores 155 MP. Using osmose on Intangir restores all MP because Intangir has so much of it.

  • "Problems to resolve: finding a way to post notices to everyone."

Sign up for Twitter. Everyone following you will receive every message you put on there. It would be a simple and fast way to announce things to your fans.

  • I'm referring to posting notices on YouTube.

  • If you'd like to, say, send a message to all your subscribers, just go to your Inbox, click Address Book, Subscribers, check the box to check everyone, then click Compose.

  • What I'm referring to is an announcement so that anyone viewing my channel, not just subscribers only, can view it. It appears that my power supply is about to fail (it's making a loud squealing sound that's getting worse by the day) and making this announcement might be useful in the event I'm suddenly absent from YT.

  • I just stick notes in my channel description with a date for reference (still have one I've been putting off for over a month now, heh). You can post bulletins in the recent activity window too.

  • That's kind of what I do, but randomly, YouTube produces an error that prevents me from sending it and it's annoying. Worse yet, YouTube doesn't specify what the problem is or what part of the text is problematic. The bulletins thing seems to be "friends only" rather than everyone, even those who haven't registered or signed in. As to the game, I now have 14 characters. I don't know if "Crusader" is one such character though, otherwise there are 15 in all.

  • Ahah, you did managed to get Ultima in the first world, impressive! I shall do that as well then :) I will do the same thing with all the other characters though, as I love to power level my characters as early as possible on FF games.

Anyway, don't know if you know this, but you can also get Ultima with the Esper Ragnarok, or with the Paladin Shield. You can only do that in World of Ruin though. But that's how you teach Ultima to the other characters (other than Terra that is :))

  • That cave you do during the Thamasa mission right after the fire event is the best place for this. Cast vanish and the enemies are harmless allowing for soloing these things on level 1. Just don't attack "admancht" physically and you'll be fine. Other characters don't get spells except from espers. I don't think I've ever seen the "Paladin shield" though.

  • Yeah, I've been leveling up there, but since I didn't know about the vanish trick, I had some trouble with the adamantch enemies, because they would sneez all my characters away and I never understood why! As for the paladin shield, you have to uncurse the Cursed Shield, wearing it during 255 battles. On the 256th, the shield becomes uncursed, and it's replaced by the paladin shield, which besides having great stats, teaches Ultima at a x1 rate. Not bad eh?

  • Cursed items - I never use them at all because I don't find them worth the risk. As to Admancht, these things are easy. Just use magic attacks, any magic attacks, and they won't sneeze, ever. Attack them physically and, well, they will on occasion (most likely to occur upon death). I just use the basic "fire" spell on them (at least the weakest possible spell strong enough to one-hit them anyway).

  • I'm sorry but this evidence is not conclusive.

  • And how is that? Consider the battle with Intangir where I use meteor and ultima alternatively. It's also listed as I'm selecting a spell to cast with the green scenery in the background, only present during the first world. You've also got the music as well.

  • Not to mention it's pretty well-established fact that Terra gets Ultima at level 99.

Plus, as demonstrated in other videos, it's not difficult to get characters to level 99 in the first world.

  • ... and the cave I use is lame - I did several sudoku puzzles while waiting and you can start even on level 1, if you can get here on that low of a level. Celes gets meteor on level 98. The video description and the video itself lists others, though I do have uncertainties.

  • Using the Doom spell on Intangir is a one-shot when it is invisible. This is the case for enemies that you vanish as well.

  • In these games, I almost never use those kinds of spells. Things like "sleep", "poison", "stop", etc. I don't use. I sometimes use "slow" though, but that's only on select boss fights....

  • i love the twang that you have in your voice, it's like.. it doesn't sound southern but it still twangs. It's quite unique.

  • i agree he should do self hypnosis videos =D

  • Holy was renamed Pearl in the SNES version of FF6 due to Nintendo of America's censorship policies. The PS1 version just reused the SNES version's translation.

As for Merton, Merton is a fire-elemental spell, so you can use it safely if you have equipment that nulls or absorbs fire.

  • GAAAH, Get Regnarok (Which you can only get in the second world) teaches Ultima at 1x.

  • But then you wouldn't have it in the first world would you?

  • In addition, I haven't found the esper in the second world that has ultima. I had 4 other espers to find, but couldn't find them. It's probably why I also didn't find Locke, shadow, and the other two characters in the second world. To this day, getting Terra to level 99 is the only way I've seen ultima in this game. PS, isn't it "Ragnarok", after the spelling in other games (like FF5 or FF8)?

  • You need Locke to get Ragnarok and thus Ultima.

To find Locke you need to land your airship in the little clearing on the mountain range that's star-shaped (it's hinted at in a few bits of NPC dialogue); there's a long dungeon wherein you can find one of the dragons (which may be why you may have missed Crusader, who teaches Merton), Locke, and ultimately leads to the esper Phoenix.

  • With Locke in your party you can unlock locked doors in Narshe. In one of them is a man who offers to either give you the esper Ragnarok (who teaches Ultima) or turn Ragnarok into a powerful sword.

To even see shadow in the second world you need to wait for him before jumping onto your airship from the floating continent. In that case he replaces Relm in the Veldt Cave and then shows up in the colleseum where you need to bet the dirk from the cave.

    Who're the others you miss?

  • There were four espers missing, the four on the bottom of the list. I think I may have found the esper that has "merton", but I don't recall. I found the one with meteor though (Odin I think), in a castle. There's also Umaro that I haven't found. The sword I wouldn't care for - it's the damage limit that makes it useless. The morning star does 8500 damage as it is and that's a weak weapon on someone not devoted to physical attacks. I searched all over for anything else but got nowhere.

  • Yeah, it's definitely more worth it to take the esper over the sword.

To find Umaro you just need to jump down on the cliff behind where Tritoch was resting, make your way to the end of the caves there, and fight Umaro. You need to have Mog in your party for him to join though. There's also an esper in the little skull staff thing near where you fight Umaro.

You get Crusader from defeating all 8 of the dragons

  • The stone queen in the sunken castle (that you access via Figaro) will turn Odin into Raiden too, if you missed that one.

I'd guess you probably missed Gogo too, you can get him by going to the same triangle island that Intangir's on in the first world in the second world. Walk around until you encounter a worm monster called Zone Eater and let him use his attack that swallows your party members until you're all swallowed. Then get to the end of the dungeon and there he is.
