coming from the party that had elmo testify, FuckTHEWORLD
"I like talking about people who don't have any power," Colbert explained. "I feel the need to speak for those who can't speak for themselves. We ask them to come and work, and then we ask them to leave again. They suffer, and have no rights."
Then, surprisingly, Colbert quoted the Bible from Matthew 25:40: "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth. Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'"
What I thought was HILARIOUS!!! were the comments on Stephen Colbert not being an "expert". Of course he's not an expert. He's a comedian running a mock-punditry show. "He's unpacking corn that's supposed to be packed." That Rep. King is the "comedy" aspect of his segment. He didn't take it seriously for the shooting of the video, but he was a reliable witness to the goings-on of the migrant workers. And, if it's such a problem, don't ask him questions. Simple problem, simple solution.
@youngandhip I think Stephen is an expert. As he said in the hearing, a day studying anything will make him an expert. he worked a day of field work, he host his show that's based on politics which he's covered the topic before, has ABC press credentials, and I'm sure he learns his world news on the regular. He's hit this subject at more angles than the average person and some of the committee apparently.
@xXxM0nteNegr0xXx Agreed. A lot of people tend to point out that Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart are just comedians. However, they've both shown research and intelligence that I wish most of 24 hour news networks would display.
@youngandhip And of course he didn't take it serious. Its a joke in itself that a comedian has to go in front of congress and tell them how it is. It shows that the government is a joke.
Fox News is a joke. 1:59. Did you see the amount of people in the room? Colbert's very presence provided massive media attention to issue of the working conditions for undocumented farm labors.
im rarely into whats going on in this country if it wasnt for colbert i wouldn't know or care half as much as i do now and megan u look kind of stupid
Did she really just mention the unemployed Americans and immigrants together? Suggesting that the typical Americans will do what the immigrants do? Seriously?! Fox news makes my brain bleed...
congress and politics is a mockery of what it should stand for so Colbert is my hero. Insult to intellegence? If you can't see the humour in this you are stupid XD
@tegtime hell after this years caucus I'm embarrassed there's even a republican left in our state. God even on Youtube Fox News makes me want to punch babies. Yes, Stephen, was wasting time and money. That's the joke. He was wasting time and money that was already being wasted.
@MightyNeonFraa what joke? everything he said is true Americans don't want to work in the field like their ancestors did back in the 1800s .if you don't believe me ask the farmers in Alabama their crops are going to waste because theirs no more migrant workers their to pick them, they send 10 Americans (White and black) to work on the field and the next day only 2 showed up i don't understand ..how can you say hes mocking if everything hes said is true .
@KONTRAORDEN Sorry, allow me to clarify. I meant every time Stephen Colbert appears anywhere like this he does it in character, so it baffles me that people expected him to not show up in character and make fun of the whole thing.
@MightyNeonFraa ok i get you .. its a great idea Colbert had to represent Republicans while mocking each and everyone of their stupid believes and that's something Megan Kelly and Fox News cant get through their heads.
Steve King has never done hard work in his life. The video was staged? Holy Shit Steve, you're a fucking genius. I also love the fact that Megan Kelly imagines this as a straight news story. She serves him up half a dozen fat ones, Steve proceeds to hit them out of the park, he finishes on Megan's chest and calls it a day.
Because we all know that Fox News is SO open minded and isn't bias at all against democrats. THIS is a waste of money? The Iraq war is a waste. We've spent trillions on this stupid war. Finally Obama gets the message and is pulling troops out and letting countries deal with their own damn problems for once. But what does Fox think? Every Muslim is a terrorist and we should kill them all. Idiots

They should lighten the fuck up. His point was, WHY THE FUCK AM I HERE??? And at the same time he was making an important point. He adresses the problem of that Americans are not willing to do such jobs.
Yeah, so much taxpayer time wasted. If this was Dennis Miller talking to Congress they'd be wetting their pants. Fox news just hates that Colbert (and Stewart) expose their idiocy and their bias daily. "He didn't do real work" in his comedy central based bit? NO!!! Fucking morons.
I find it funny that instead of challenging my actual comment, you knit pick at a simple typo mistake... How ironic. Pretty typical right side tactic. You want to have an "intelligent" conversation? Let's do it. But how about we make a real debate and none of this petty crap??
Republicans are all self-righteous idiots who don't understand humor and think Steven Colbert is in the way of their plans for world domination(1). It's true.
(1) I do not consider Ron Paul your typical Republican.
He was only trying to get the issue some attention - republicans have invited Clint Eastwood to these committee meetings, even Elmo from sesame street was invited to testify at a committee meeting by a Republican chairperson. Colbert made great points during his testimony, for example the fact that most Americans won't take these farming jobs that immigrants take, and they're encouraged to take them, yet then they're told to go away and have no rights which is an absolutely huge contradiction.
Throughout history this has happened. Rich countries importing foriegn workers, then the rich countries people complaining when the economy lapses into a depression.
I highly doubt a sizable percentage of Americans really want to do that level of hard labor, rather than pay someone to do it extremely cheaply.
Stephen Colbert is an American. Americans are allowed to testify before congress. Therefore Colbert had every right to be there, and to make our politicians laugh. I think Fox News is every bit as funny!
stephen colbert made his point loud and clear without being completely boring and un interesting he didn't tip toe around the subject and make people want to fall asleep while they are talking.
The American people let Steve King serve as a congressman. I don't think there's a much bigger insult to the American people or a waste of their money.
I am offended that I was linked to this video from Colbert's testimony videos. Since I did suffer through it, Fox is full of dirty manure. The stereotypical American is a selfish, arrogant, lazy pig. Being born and raised in America... I know well. Now, there are SEVERAL exceptions to the rule, but let;s not kid ourselves... Nearly every nation on earth has a better work ethic than the U.S.
Unemployment?! Maybe you should ask the top 1% of capitalists who have only increased their income over the recession where all the jobs are? Fox news analysts are puppets at best.
bullcrap, the Iowa congressman has no faith in the american spirit if he thinks it is discouraged by simple humor. He feels defeated is his own issue, don't bring down everyone with you. The American spirit, if I learned annything in my travels, becomes enlightened by humor, I thought.. as well as freedom, truth, etc.
Fox news always makes the most ridiculous statements. They are so completely biased- everyone there is a diehard conservative. I would expect them to understand why Colbert was chosen, let alone understand his speech.
I have many conservative friends whom are all respectful human beings who just happen to have a different political standpoint than I- the people over at Fox news are a party of their own.
He made a very valid point. His humor highlighted the facts. He wasn't there to be funny, he made his point clearly and effectively, he just happened to be funny. FOX needs to stop complaining about stupid things like this and focus on real news. It's not an insult to our intelligence either. You have to be smart to understand Colbert's humor and pretty frickin' stupid to believe almost any thing FOX news says is true or unbiased
Fox News: The news organization with the most factual errors of any major news source, because news isn't just about facts and what is technically "right" or "factual". Truthiness- belief in something that is true despite absent of fact. Fox News excels in this.
Let's for one moment pretend FOX "news" told the truth about the $125,000.
On the other hand, the Republicans have wasted trillions on tax breaks to the richest people for no reason and free of any responsibility.
Colbert was not insulting the intelligence of the American people, he represents the contempt the intelligent Americans now have of the Congress. Of course the "American" that FOX "news" represents are the parts where the word intelligence comes in short supply.
After watching the daily show and the colbert report for a while, I can finally see how flawed the fox network is, and how they aren't "fair and balanced" as they claim.
If FOX news had actually paid attention to Colbert's report they would have realized that he has more insight and political capability (especially in regards to reporting) in his pinky then any three of them combined. Perhaps that's why they target him or John Stewart, because the two of them have more credibility and intelligence then any of those republican sock-puppets at FOX
When I first saw the colbert testimony, I knew it was funny but he did make valid points and was pretty respectful so I thought "oh, you have to give this guy some credit" but then I was reminded about how fox news reports stories like this and why they're a bunch of humorless assholes.
Holy shit I did not just see what I thought I did. A Fox News employee acting incredulous because someone else didn't have their facts right. It's a miracle some sort of rift in time and space didn't erupt right their in the studio with the irony of it all.
waste of tax payers money?? I'm proud to have paid for that! Far more glad than paying that lady to look at her iphone while fellow American citizen Stephen Colbert is giving his deserved testimony.
A short, eloquent (and funny) testimony which brought to the surface the plight of the immigrants and the double standards on the issue of immigration?
But typical Fox - attack the fact that the man is a comedian and in character rather than actually listen to what he said because then they might actually have to do some real work!
Ignoring the fact that Colbert actually had valid points, and that was one of a few people testifying, and that he only spoke for 5 min, and that he raised a bunch attention to the issue, Ill give you the benefit of the doubt and say that this cost taxpayers $125000. Thats like .04 cents per person. Tell you what Ill send you a penny in the mail, and you can even keep the change.
Colbert hugely overstepped his allowed 5 minutes to summarize his written statement, by taking an obscene 5 minutes 20 seconds instead. So if each hearing costs roughly $125,000, and Colbert wasted 20 seconds of that 2 hour 7 minute hearing, then his indiscretion misused 0.2625% of that $125,000, or $328. With the federal budget of $3.82 trillion American taxpayers should be outraged at this gross misuse of 0.000000008586% of the budget.
On the other hand, Colbert publicized the hearing, actually bringing it into the focus of the mainstream media. That doesn't happen everyday for a C-SPAN topic. The "journalists" over at Fox News just prove my point when they devote an entire five minutes to it. Maybe we should have more comedians like Colbert and Stewart in these things more often.
this coming from a News (more like brainwashing) corporation who stands too lose when people open their eyes. Also, whoa are they to deny anyone from stating their opinions.
Ironically, this interview did not contain any of the substance of Colbert's sincere comments... they focused on the circus-act, hypocritically extending the joke-part of his testimony, yet sadly ignoring his contributing commentary on the day in the field/more importantly his personal motives. Of course, it was to focus the public eye on the issue... but FOX is like a dog. You point to the moon and they look at your finger. Here's my finger--guess which one.
@AdverbAdjective Have you run out of things to moan about? You're whining about my grammar now? Really? You might want to take a look at yours...
And I don't think bitch is a word that implies bigotry. Implies dislike, sure, but disliking someone (like that guy does) and saying all liberals are gay (which you did) are two very different things. The former is an opinion. The latter is demonstrably false.
But you've made me curious. What political ideology to you ascribe to?
@AdverbAdjective You have a point. There's no "retarded" section to the liberal-conservative scale, so you don't fit anywhere.
And I never found all caps to be particularly good for venting anger. Not bad for mockery, though. Then again, I never understood how people could get angry at internet comments. Easy to feel pity, though. Like I feel sorry for you because you're a hateful bigot with no real ability to reason. I'd help you if I could, because you obviously need it.
@AdverbAdjective Amusing to see that disagreeing with you amounts to "shitty ass liberal comment". ALL HAIL ADVERBADJECTIVE, THE VOICE OF ALL CONSERVATISM. TO DEFY HIM IS TO BE HOMOSEXUAL, TO DISAGREE WITH HIM IS THE PINNACLE OF IDIOCY. HIS WORD IS THE WORD OF GOD! HE IS NEVER WRONG AND REALITY ITSELF WILL BEND TO HIS WHIMS!
They could take your posts and make a really, really amusing book of jokes.
@AdverbAdjective I guess no one has taught you the difference between "fact" and "opinion" yet. Don't worry, English is a tricky language, but many intellectually challenged people like yourself have mastered it. You will too. Keep trying.
I predict you'll answer me with a crude remark about my intelligence or sexual orientation, since intelligent debate is quite clearly beyond your mental abilities. You're welcome to prove me right by doing so.
The more time Congress wastes the better. Saving us from Congress just for 5 min is worth the cost considering what both parties are doing to our liberties.
In all seriousness, Steven Colbert has more brain cells in a 1/1,000,000th piece of his brain than any of those ruddy idiots that we call Congressmen. His statement was balanced with funny and intelligent points. Maybe he should run our country, I'd vote for him. <3
@AdverbAdjective I said that most people associate conservatism with the Republican Party. Not all conservatives are Republicans, but much of the general public thinks they are.
In any case, I think you're projecting. If you were more secure in your beliefs, you wouldn't seek to validate them by posting random ultra-conservative bullshit on "liberal" videos. It's like when gay people try to hide their homosexuality by acting really manly and overcompensating.
@AdverbAdjective I never said you were. It's simply that most do associate conservatives with the Republican Party, so whether you like it or not, your behavior reflects upon them and other conservatives everywhere. You do your beliefs no favors when you act like what liberals believe conservatives are.
But it's alright. Most people learn to expect stupidity in Youtube comments, so I don't think you're disappointing anyone.
@AdverbAdjective You still haven't told me how you know I'm not a conservative. Rather than answering questions with "see previous comment", you might try actually answering them. It does wonders for dealing with the "most people thinking you're a retard" factor you must have to deal with all the time.
@AdverbAdjective Amusing assumption you make there, considering you know absolutely nothing about me. How do you know I'm not a conservative? Is it just because I disagree with you?
@AdverbAdjective People have the audacity to disagree with you and your views?!? They must be retarded. No one intelligent or educated could possibly be something other than conservative, nor could intelligent people dislike Fox News.
"What the hell was he doing before the U.S. Congress?" Doing exactly what every other congressman does when Congress comes in session. His speech was "...without much substance?" His had more substance than anything else Congress provided during that session. The only difference is that Stephen had passion, and still managed to find time to spice his moment up with humor. "Humor is the blade that can make a point without drawing blood."
@AdverbAdjective this comes from the guy who said " more liberals angry at fox news, what else is new? maybe they should go back to any of the leftist "news" networks or better yet get a job and an education " and also said "go back to your ELF meeting so u can blow up more buildings" yea real intelligent because i guess anybody who doesnt disagree with your anti-progressive nazi ideas are bad, fuck you
@AdverbAdjective yea, i guess all liberals smoke pot? if were applying stereotypes then go back to commiting hate crimes in the kkk, and let the liberals make real changes in the world
Stephen is bringing up a good point. Americans don't want to get down in the dirt and do it. The majority of Americans think they're too good for work like that, so let the migrant workers do it.
He had valid points, just like anyone else who would've gone before congress. The only difference is that he added some humor to one small portion of the hearing. And because of THAT, you're saying he wasted approximately $125,000? Fuck you Fox News. The only outrage here, is that Megyn Kelly was let out of the kitchen.
How did Colbert cost taxpayer money, I never would have watched this segment of C-Span had he not been on it and the thousands of dollars would have just been "spent" on someone else occupying the time with assuredly less viewers. Fox News just hates being made a bitch, F**k them.
So the Committee has a budget of $19 million of tax payers money, and Colbert "wasted" approx. $125,000 ? As opposed to $10 billion for the war in Afghanistan? I hate people.
Speaking of a waste, shouldn't King be working instead of interviewing on Fox? Or does getting face time on the news not count as wasting American tax dollars?
I think the fact that Rep. King couldn't see past the satire and pick out the legitimate arguments is insulting. Of course he is going to go in there in character, he is a comedian. I think Fox News and Rep. King are insulted by the fact that Colbert made more valid points through satire than they can attempt to make with any amount of preperation. Colbert did not say it is too hard, he said that when you get paid shit Americans are not going to do it. Go fuck yourselves Fox.
I saw Colbert's speech to congress. Besides being the funniest thing I'd seen all day, it was probably the closest congress has ever gotten to doing something. He made valid points, and made me piss my pants while doing so. FUCK YOU FOX. quit hating, start participating ;)
why in the hell does a hearing cost over $125,000 in the first place??

I am offended that I was linked to this video from Colbert's testimony videos. Since I did suffer through it, Fox is full of dirty manure. The stereotypical American is a selfish, arrogant, lazy pig. Being born and raised in America... I know well. Now, there are SEVERAL exceptions to the rule, but let;s not kid ourselves... Nearly every nation on earth has a better work ethic than the U.S.

bullcrap, the Iowa congressman has no faith in the american spirit if he thinks it is discouraged by simple humor.

Fox News excels in this.
drstargate1 8 months ago
Let's for one moment pretend FOX "news" told the truth about the $125,000.
On the other hand, the Republicans have wasted trillions on tax breaks to the richest people for no reason and free of any responsibility.
Colbert was not insulting the intelligence of the American people, he represents the contempt the intelligent Americans now have of the Congress. Of course the "American" that FOX "news" represents are the parts where the word intelligence comes in short supply.

A waste of time?
A short, eloquent (and funny) testimony which brought to the surface the plight of the immigrants and the double standards on the issue of immigration?
But typical Fox - attack the fact that the man is a comedian and in character rather than actually listen to what he said because then they might actually have to do some real work!

Ignoring the fact that Colbert actually had valid points, and that was one of a few people testifying, and that he only spoke for 5 min, and that he raised a bunch attention to the issue, Ill give you the benefit of the doubt and say that this cost taxpayers $125000. Thats like .04 cents per person. Tell you what Ill send you a penny in the mail, and you can even keep the change.
zzyzx0788 9 months ago
Colbert hugely overstepped his allowed 5 minutes to summarize his written statement, by taking an obscene 5 minutes 20 seconds instead. So if each hearing costs roughly $125,000, and Colbert wasted 20 seconds of that 2 hour 7 minute hearing, then his indiscretion misused 0.2625% of that $125,000, or $328. With the federal budget of $3.82 trillion American taxpayers should be outraged at this gross misuse of 0.000000008586% of the budget.
Way to do the math Megyn Kelly!

Ghostwind1 10 months ago
@AdverbAdjective Have you run out of things to moan about? You're whining about my grammar now? Really? You might want to take a look at yours...
And I don't think bitch is a word that implies bigotry. Implies dislike, sure, but disliking someone (like that guy does) and saying all liberals are gay (which you did) are two very different things. The former is an opinion. The latter is demonstrably false.
But you've made me curious. What political ideology to you ascribe to?
Ghostwind1 10 months ago
@AdverbAdjective You have a point. There's no "retarded" section to the liberal-conservative scale, so you don't fit anywhere.
And I never found all caps to be particularly good for venting anger. Not bad for mockery, though. Then again, I never understood how people could get angry at internet comments. Easy to feel pity, though. Like I feel sorry for you because you're a hateful bigot with no real ability to reason. I'd help you if I could, because you obviously need it.
Ghostwind1 10 months ago
@AdverbAdjective Amusing to see that disagreeing with you amounts to "shitty ass liberal comment". ALL HAIL ADVERBADJECTIVE, THE VOICE OF ALL CONSERVATISM. They could take your posts and make a really, really amusing book of jokes.
Ghostwind1 10 months ago
@AdverbAdjective I guess no one has taught you the difference between "fact" and "opinion" yet. Don't worry, English is a tricky language, but many intellectually challenged people like yourself have mastered it. You will too. Keep trying.
I predict you'll answer me with a crude remark about my intelligence or sexual orientation, since intelligent debate is quite clearly beyond your mental abilities. You're welcome to prove me right by doing so.

Truly, I must thank you for this most entertaining display you've provided. Haven't laughed like this in a while.
Ghostwind1 10 months ago
@AdverbAdjective I said that most people associate conservatism with the Republican Party. Not all conservatives are Republicans, but much of the general public thinks they are.
In any case, I think you're projecting. If you were more secure in your beliefs, you wouldn't seek to validate them by posting random ultra-conservative bullshit on "liberal" videos. It's like when gay people try to hide their homosexuality by acting really manly and overcompensating.
It's quite amusing, actually.
Ghostwind1 10 months ago
@AdverbAdjective I never said you were. It's simply that most do associate conservatives with the Republican Party, so whether you like it or not, your behavior reflects upon them and other conservatives everywhere. You do your beliefs no favors when you act like what liberals believe conservatives are.
But it's alright. Most people learn to expect stupidity in Youtube comments, so I don't think you're disappointing anyone.
Ghostwind1 10 months ago
@AdverbAdjective You still haven't told me how you know I'm not a conservative. Rather than answering questions with "see previous comment", you might try actually answering them. It does wonders for dealing with the "most people thinking you're a retard" factor you must have to deal with all the time.
Ghostwind1 10 months ago
Fuck off Fox News. You bitches are just jealous because it is Stephen Colbert in front of Congress and not Bill O Reillys old ass.

I wonder if Ms. Kelly realizes, that $125,000 of "taxpayer" money is only about .00025 per person--literally a dollar for every $4,000 people.
