I like how people are arguing over a few car lengths. The numbers on both cars for acceleration are quite close, but the driving experience is completely different. Determining what's better is determining what mood you're currently in. The 996TT is more raw, while the E55 AMG is certainly smoother. I know people that would/will gladly own both.
996 TT is not only faster than the E55 it is in a different league, the 996 turbo is 2 seconds faster from 0-200km/h, the E55 is more of a rival for the normal 997 Carrera or Carrera S.

@golf1diesel actually the auto or tiptronic trans is usually faster in a turbo car because the shifts are faster and the boost pressure stays high. The new 911 turbo did 2.9 secs 0-60 with the PDK trans. I doubt the manual car could do that.

@exBMRguy Curious - loco talk guys. Having both the 2009 E55 and a 1997 993tt in my drive way I can tell you now the Porsche runs circles round it. E55 0to60 in about 4.6 seconds. 933TT 0to60 3.8 seconds. Thats considerably quicker and to 100mph the 993 really eats the E. The E has more hp/trq but weighs about 1000 lbs more. The 996TT is a tad faster than the 993TT.
Love the vid and both cars, BUT the merc is obviously modded. To pull on the porsche at such a speed and THAT hard is seriously fast! Ive seen both cars STOCK on the track many times and NO STOCK e55 has EVER pulled a turbo 996 like that! Any car that reach 180mph and over and do it without too much waiting around is faster than you're ever going to need, track or Autobahn. My car has a claimed top speed of over 170mph (275km/h) but I've no interest of even doing that much. Mid-range is far more important than top speed.
911 turbo has been a benchmark car for years. The e55 beat him with his grandma in the back and trunk full of groceries. The E55 and newer E63 are for real straight line cars. And they get parked in front of the club not around the back like Camaros

My 335i ran a 12.13 sec qtr mile with just a $400 JB2HR tune, no after market exhaust, air cleaner, etc. Just high octane pump fuel and DRs. That same day, a Z06 ran at 12.26. You can see my time on Drag Times, 3rd fastest in the country, and by far the least modified. You can also see my videos of me running the canyons the day before the drag strip.
It was reflashed. It's a known tune, thank you very much, you reprogrammed the Turbo pressure and you can output as much as 450bhp like that. Try a stock time and we'll talk. That car was tuned.
I think the c63 is going to be a screamer when it hits our shores, but it looks pretty ordinary, and cant handle. Its a pity because it really had makings of potential M3 ass kicker, and while it can do so in a straightline, its not the complete package the M is.

Since the 335 has 310HP I'd expect it to perform somewhere a bit under what the M3 E46 did with 343 HP. Somethign like 5 to 10 seconds slower. So 335 and Boxster S are well matched around a track... They are comparable and the boxster shld be faster.
Have you seen the M5boards run between a V2 vishnu 335i ( a 335i with a chip and exhaust) vs an E55 AMG? The result is amazing, the BMW leaves it behind. Amazing how a chip in a 335 makes it a monster
i had a911 tt 2001 manual my friend had an e55 we raced in 2005 and he was on my rear bumper every time at very high speeds the 911 tt starts to pull away but boy that e55 is fast.

So get real allready. 550NM in a sleek shaped 1400kg is NATURALLY faster than a 2 ton car even with 700Nm of torque. Not saying it pwns it, but will beat it any given day and a good solid drive.

no, actually any real car enthusiast appreciates great cars. Not some brand whore. the veyron is an amazing piece of engineering. it may not be the best handling car or have the purest driving experience. But take that baby to 250+ and see how stable it is.

Of course it is a great piece of engineering but I am sick of hearing about it lol. I mean yes it does something stupid like 250mph but seriously, what difference does it make in the real world? Any car that reach 180mph and over and do it without too much waiting around is faster than you're ever going to need, track or Autobahn. My car has a claimed top speed of over 170mph (275km/h) but I've no interest of even doing that much. Mid-range is far more important than top speed.

911 turbo has been a benchmark car for years. The e55 beat him with his grandma in the back and trunk full of groceries. The E55 and newer E63 are for real straight line cars. And they get parked in front of the club not around the back like Camaros

sports car drivers, especially those who own a car such as porsche or a ferrari, have a very hard time believing that some underrated family sedan coming from a luxury brand can beat them in a straight line. i also bet that 99% of ferrari F430 owners don't know that the 65 amg versions can outrun their F430s to the quarter mile and to 100mph.

A stock turbo 911 would kill a 211 E55 anyday. If one is mod'd of course the outcome would be different. Either way, both nice cars. The 911 is of course the pure bread. The Benz is a knock off Lexus product with poor reliability.

the E55 has 469 HP and it 4000 LBS
Although the E55 has 64 more HP the weight is what kills it against the Z06

what the e55 kills is the fact that its a luxury limousine with everything you need or dont need on board. and the z06 is a plastic-sportscar...with a unbeatable price preformance ratio.

The e55 has 516 lb/ft of torque vs. 400 for the zo6. That has a huge affect on acceleration and that is why the benz can keep up with or beat the vette. The performance numbers are pretty even between the two cars.

My 335i ran a 12.13 sec qtr mile with just a $400 JB2HR tune, no after market exhaust, air cleaner, etc. Just high octane pump fuel and DRs. That same day, a Z06 ran at 12.26. You can see my time on Drag Times, 3rd fastest in the country, and by far the least modified. You can also see my videos of me running the canyons the day before the drag strip.

It was reflashed. It's a known tune, thank you very much, you reprogrammed the Turbo pressure and you can output as much as 450bhp like that. Try a stock time and we'll talk. That car was tuned.

I think the c63 is going to be a screamer when it hits our shores, but it looks pretty ordinary, and cant handle. Its a pity because it really had makings of potential M3 ass kicker, and while it can do so in a straightline, its not the complete package the M is.

I understand your point, but the E55 costs double a 335i, I was simply trying to show its amazing level of bang for your bucks.
If I put another $40-50k into a 335i... well youd have to be insane, but you get my point.
The 335i, puts more than 10 car spaces on the E55, it beats a 997 turbo from 50-200km/h (above which the 997 turbo over takes it), aswell as a M5 touring.... pretty impressive!

one of my friends owns 2 335s. They're fast. But not that fast unless tuned. Here's the Nurburgring times so that you beamer lovers can wake up:
Porsche 911 Turbo: 7:39
Porsche 911 Carrera S: 7:59
BMW M3 E92 (the new one with 420HP) : 8:05.
So the brand new M3 is a sweet 25seconds behind the older 911 turbo around the world's most famous track! Even slower than a Carrera S!! If the M3 is 25 seconds behind it than the 335 which BMW did not even test on the Ring, has to be much slower than that.

Boxtser S: 8:25
BMW M3 E46 (Inline6 w/343HP): 8:22
Since the 335 has 310HP I'd expect it to perform somewhere a bit under what the M3 E46 did with 343 HP. Somethign like 5 to 10 seconds slower. So 335 and Boxster S are well matched around a track... They are comparable and the boxster shld be faster.

Have you seen the M5boards run between a V2 vishnu 335i ( a 335i with a chip and exhaust) vs an E55 AMG? The result is amazing, the BMW leaves it behind. Amazing how a chip in a 335 makes it a monster

i had a911 tt 2001 manual my friend had an e55 we raced in 2005 and he was on my rear bumper every time at very high speeds the 911 tt starts to pull away but boy that e55 is fast.

So get real allready. 550NM in a sleek shaped 1400kg is NATURALLY faster than a 2 ton car even with 700Nm of torque. Not saying it pwns it, but will beat it any given day and a good solid drive.
