The difference is an military style rifle has the ability to fire multiple rounds and not over heat as fast as a traditional "hunting" rifle". Great video. I hope the anti-assault weapon crowd watches it from beginning to end. It's easy to look at a weapon and draw conclusions that it's a 'cop-killer' or a drug dealer's weapon of choice, but most 'menacing' looking weapons are only cosmetically enhanced versions of perfectly legal semi-automatic firearms. However I doubt the die-hard gun haters will ever see them as such. Their agenda is to disarm everyone, and the first to be disarmed will be the law abiding gun owners. God help us.

I'd say that assault rifles are probably the most versatile weapon you can possibly have. What you see in TV and movies doesn't accurately depict the utility of them.
Assault rifle can be used for hunting (depending on the caliber) of various game, target shooting, self-defense, and recreation. It can take the role of a close-range gun in self defense, and act as a medium to long range weapon for varmints to medium/large size game.
What you see in movies, of people spraying for several minutes with the same clip, hosing down people, that has no basis in reality. Not only are 99.999% of assault rifles in the US only semi-automatic, but handguns and shotguns are responsible for WAY, WAY more crime and gun violence. It makes no sense whatsoever to take away assault rifles. The arguments for doing such a thing always stem from 100% ignorance of the facts.

Taking away the right for law abiding citizens to have access to these weapons will not change the reality of the issue. Criminals are the problem. The federal government does not have a legal right to regulate ANY firearms. The second amendment is not about hunting rifles. It exists to ensure a citizens right to own millitary small arms. A free country should not fear an armed citizenry...criminals are already banned from owning firearms. Shooting someone is already illegal. Regulating guns is a failed concept. There are enough out there to arm everyone 10 times anyway...and it will ALWAYS be that way reguardless of law.

It's never been illegal for civillians to own FA firearms (nationwide). Assuming you own a legally purchased NFA registered weapon. Also assuming you live in a machinegun friendly state (state law is defacto federal law if more stringent on a given firearms issue) For instance I can not own a short barrel rifle or shotgun in AL. though federal law allows for their legal ownership in certain other states.
