I'm telling you, I have the original quality version, and while sometimes the letters are less readable, you can still make them out.
Here was the dilemma: I wanted to at least hear the music, but I also felt like showing Max playing would be fun, too---at the same time, I wanted to spice it up. The text is not the point of that shot---if I had wanted people to read it, I would, as you say, have placed it in front of a black background. The text, however, is pretty much besides the point.
YouTube's fault. Not my own. I wanted the text to scroll, and as it happens, the content of the words is all but random. Uploading the text below solves the problem of readability. That doesn't mean I'm happy about the uploaded version being lesser quality, but I also knew that I liked the idea of words scrolling over Max playing.
