I love this piece, the oboe-line is so beautiful and a good tenor makes the line even more beautiful (which doesn't happen in this case unfortunately...).
No, it's a normal oboe, oboe da caccia plays, for example, in the aria "Sehet, Jesus hat die hand" and oboe d'amore in the aria "Ich will dir mein Herze schenken".
The first item (the coro/recit 'O Schmerz') is one of my favourite items in the rich catalogue of Bach's works, with his sublime use of flutes and oboes and oboes d'amore. However, the soloist here sounds a wee bit strained in places. Nevertheless, Bacholoji, you are a much appreciated supplier of Bach videos on this site. Thank you a million times!

Ach, könnte meine Liebe dir,
Mein Heil, dein Zittern und dein Zagen
Vermindern oder helfen tragen,
Wie gerne blieb ich hier!

I could listen to that 4-3 suspension at the end of the recit (1:44) over and over.

I'm surprised at how good Paul Agnew is with bach-I only have recordings of him doing Rameau and french baroque

I sang this last year in the concertgebouw too, with Ivan Fischer and two years ago with Roger Norrington,
I love the last part: wir setzen uns<33

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.
Any Evangelist pales in comparison to Michael Schade. If you don't believe me, check out the Rilling and Harnoncourt Passion recordings.

to be ultra-exact, it's not a "normal" oboe, but a Baroque oboe ;)
