I lived in Juneau for two years, 2002-2004 after living in Ketchikan for 15 years. Juneau is definately colder than Ketchikan, and really has a bite in its cold! I remember driving home from college at night, and it was a slow one as huge snow flakes were covering my wind shield that winter of 2003...when I came home snow was inside my front door from the wind blowing outside. Loved it in the summer. :)
Doesn't Juneau get like 100 inches of snow? but it rains so much also that the snow never accumulates. That's the key, there are places in Washington, Oregon and California that are burried under snow until July. But, Juneau gets so much rain that it just melts all the snow away.
This brings back so many memories, I arrived on Jan 10-11 after midnight, due to snow... and didn't leave till April 1..... I loved all the snow.. walking through tunnels that were the sidewalks to the Mall...snowy mornings painting... drives to out the road, and through downtown. My housemates blamed me for the snow...hehe, being I loved it.. and it just did not stop. I miss Alaska, the place, and her people. Thank you for sharing.... and for the memories. Elaine, upstate NY
Wow! For Alaska I was expecting so much more? It looks like an average snowfall in Chicago, Illinois. Hope you guys are switching to bio-fuel for your liquid diesel. I'd be a shame to kill all that beautiful forest off.
the snow in juneau is pretty weak, it rains more than it snows in the winter, winter of 2007-2008 it snowed one day, rained the next, then froze the next over and over, as a truck driver there it was miserable. makes me glad to be back home in sunny So. Cal. Juneau is peaceful and laid back, but the rain and lack of sun is depressing. But i do remember 2007, was a fun winter, even had a pretty awsome controlled avalanch from Mt Roberts at thane road, im sure its on youtube too.
I was there and I can tell you, it was a lot of snow! We never got very much at once, but it started snowing back in October and didn't melt, it just kept piling up! For my very first winter in Alaska, it was quite an adventure.

I thought there would of been more snow. New Jersey looks like it gets more. Beautiful place to live.

More than 200" at sea level. I don't think that happens in Jersey.
