Jewish people are more likely to believe in assisted suicide. Why am I not surprise? For whatever reason Jewish people (except the hyper-religious ones) seem to think more critically.
as someone that has seen what we do to healthy cats and dogs in shelters everyday, filling barrels with their healthy but dead bodies, as someone who has worked with people with all kinds of debilitating disorders and diseases in both their homes and in hospitals, we are about as ass backwards as any species could ever be.
check out the latest HBO SPECIAL CALLED KEVORKIAN that's on - it's very good and really gets into his mind. he's a true humanitarian.
Look if a person is terminally ill and they are in intense pain why should we force them to wait until they die? The term " death with dignity" always sounded like bullshit to me but I sure can understand if a person wants to die a painless death. If the gov legalized euthanasia the medical community could step in and help individuals end their suffering. We would not have to worry about one doctor presuring his patient to commit suicide because we can mandate second opinions before death.
Jack Kevorkian is a hero as far as I am concerned. It is selffish to decide for someone else who dies. He helped people who wanted to die. As far as I know, he did not force anyone to die.
Who are YOU to tell someone they cannot die? I think "cruel and unusual" is FORCING my 80 year old grandmother who could no longer walk, her lungs filling with fluid from pnuemonia to lay there and suffocate for a month until she died. We spare DOGS this horrible death, but when a person wants to die... YOU DUMB SELFISH FUCKED UP ASS CHRISTIANS decide FOR THEM that they can't. I say FUCK YOU and YOUR (fake) GOD. This country is so retarded, 2010 and we still have zealots.
People who think suicide is selfish has never NEVER been extremely depressed and on the very edge of committing suicide. If you have experienced the true worst feeling that exists, DEEP depression, you know that is not truly a selfish act. Plus it takes great courage to commit suicide, think about it.
@lithp Exactly. In order to kill yourself, you have to override the survival instinct which is even stronger than sexual impulse. I've never understood this argument about suicide being "selfish". What's selfish is clinging to life tooth and nail when all quality has been extinguished and any hope of recovery has vanished. At that point, any "living" one is doing is based on fear/instinct, not a lust for life or courage. In fact, many ppl aren't even conscious during their last few hrs
@ritter89 right - and i would add that what is selfish is the people opposing euthenasia - opposing it based on, i believe, their own personal fears of death, and fears of the reality of life, i.e, they don't want to believe things can get that bad, they want to deny it; and their fear turns into anger directed at kevorkian, who then becomes their great scapegoat...
So... Rodiel89 is saying that suicide is ok, and assisted suicide is great? I hope his emo friends know not to joke about 'wanting to die' in front of him.
Suicide is a grossly selfish act (think about it.) Assisting somebody with suicide is a sick and twisted act, and not an act of compassion.
And Jelly - whenever the state teaches morality - watch out.
While it may be a selfish act, it is a persons own choice to do so. Suicide is not a good idea, but if you're terminally ill and suffereing, why prolong that suffering?
but tell me suicide is selfish when you are paralyzed from the neck down, and require assistance with every single basic human need (feeding, moving, eliminating wastes), when every aching moment is miserable.
for these people, suicide is as selfish as covering yourself with a warm blanket or eating because you feel hungry.
The state can't teach morality. Assisted suicide is a moral, religious, and personal choice. The State cannot interfere
with acts of morality and we have the right to die. Even if you think assisted suicide is wrong, that is your morals and your opinion. You can't say it's wrong for someone else.
While you sit there and REDICULE other people on your THRONE... You fucking asshole.... It's not "sick and twisted" I would rather be put down gently then lay in a bed suffering for months because a pack of you bleeding heart assbags want to PICKET and TELL me how to LIVE and DIE! FUCK YOU!
wait... no... FUCK YOU and YOUR dumb fucking beliefs. I don't believe the same stupid invisible man shit that you do. Don't force your bullshit down MY throat. FUCK! When are people going to GROW THE FUCK UP and keep their stupid "god" shit to themselves.
he didnt deserve to go through all that that jail time!! all he did was full fill patients wishes of ending their hell painlessly! dr kevorkian is doing something good for this miserable world. fuck the government fuck the law!! this great doctor deserves better
I believe that Dr. Kevorkian is a hero, one's life is one's own and it is a fundamental violation of one's rights to say that one cannot do as one wishes with one's own life, the most personal thing a person has, more personal that what goes on in the bedroom, which is protected. I for one, am proud to be a Jew after what that showed because I am proud that other's of my faith support this man in ending the misery of over a hundred tortured people.
I think the people who commented recently should go back to the comments made a year ago when people made some really intelligent contributions.
I have a question though: in the US do you study moral issues like euthanasia at school? In the UK we teach it in RE (which you aren't constitutionally allowed to teach in the US) and so my 15 year old pupils have been allowed to think about these ideas before they're in a position where it happens to them.
I will be very care full here, I do support what he has done, And i do know about Cancer 1st hand, and know people who suffer from it and slowly dieing from a combo of pain relivers. self add, from the hospital or hospice, You suffocate to death from, morfine an demerol, and thats sad, it takes a long long time to go throught this state of dieing
@Terrorizzzm He's actually said that he doesn't mind the nickname. He feels death is "nothing to ashamed of", and that "its a part of life." But ya, I agree with ya, he did what was necessary. Hopefully another physician or physicians will be courageous enough to resume his merciful work.
eltigreoso Yes people have heard of Painkillers if you are a person who has chronic pain and there is no other relief than pain medication, the strongest of strong painkillers doesn't control pain, not even do people get hooked to pain medication that doesn't work then we are called drug addicts and so if you can't get the drug to control your pain, or if the drug stops working one thinks of only one thing death, since you're not in that position how dare you.
You also have to look at it from another perspective, say you are in serious pain, your whole mind alters, you cannot make proper decisions about life or death.
We have sovereignty over ourselves. As long we, are not jeopardizing someone else's sovereignty. This can not be dictated by law.
If laws are passed that infringe on someone's sovereignty than the laws are unconstitutional and hence illegal laws. The law, doesn't actually exist.
Kevorkian has been unconstitutionally restricted by illegal laws and harassed by the government that imprisoned him. He has not infringed on anybodies Sovereignty, but his liberty was illegally stolen.
if you give your consent on dying to your doctor, for whatever the reason, especially if you are an invalid in a hospital bed experiencing excruciating pain, there should be no law opposing such a right. It is the right of every human in this world to determine whether or not they want to live, not a decision the law should make. The only flaw Kevorkian made was that he aired a video tape showing him injecting a patient with a toxin, putting him in the position of killing, not assisting...
The bible is not for abortion, it teaches to respect life, Genesis 1:27, 9:5, 6. Glenn comments: "The viable embryo in the uterus IS a human individual, and therefore destroying it, is a violation of the sixth commandment." some mothers say: "It's my body!" vs. Baby: "No! It's my body!". and about 4 out of 5 women seeking abortions are unmarried.
the bible also advocates stoning disobedient children.

I think the only reason people oppose him is because they are missinformed. The propaganda against him claims that he's killing innocent patients. Everyone would agree that is against the law and morally wrong. But what he is really doing is giving the patient the entire decision. He's in a sense like a gun. He didn't decide whether or not to kill the person, his will didn't influence the decision, he was just there for the event that someone wished to stop suffering.

well.. they can make a mess in the subway, or at the bottom of a 20 floor sky rise. or they can go to sleep.. why suffer.. many things should be legalized and controlled: euthanasia, prostitution, weeeeeeeeeeeed.. the reason they aren't allowed is because someone is afraid or ignorant, or just likes the power

How dare Dr Jack take a Taxpayer out of the system! There's no escaping this prison. Then there is the New York JEWISH Doctor Finkelstein, who for 5 years re-used needles and syringes from patient to patient. All to save that cheap Jew 50 cents a time. Now people have Hep C from it. Always shop Non Jewish.
If I'm terminally ill, I'd like to have the option to end MY OWN LIFE. It's that simple.
I've suffered my father's agony as he slowly died of cancer -- he wanted to go out peacefully, but he was FORCED to be kept alive. I remember every night that I sat by his side, as he pled to me to end his pain.
Kevorkian provided a painless passing. Anyone who considers him a criminal hasn't lived with someone dear to him/her, someone suffering terribly. Shame on you all.
Maybe he's right about human rights and dignity. It will beinteresting to see if Oregon keeps the law. However, Kevorkian's moral and religious arguments make no sense at all. He is contradicting what most of the main religions and mdeical professions believe - that's why you can see them voting against during this brodacast. He used the same weak arguments to defend himself at the trial where he was convicted; at least his lawyer could make a good moral argument.
I just think Kevorkian isn't the best example to give someone dignity. He's had some strange ideas in his time and some dodgy 'mercy killing' in motel rooms. 2 of his patients had no evidence of disease, let alone terminal disease, at their post mortem.
I wonder if these facts are widely known by his supporters in Oregon?
Were you there at his side when any of his compassion was extended to those begged for his help to end their personal suffering? Did you conduct the autopsy to learn there was evidence of disease by two of the individuals of which you speak?
Take my word, he will not consider a plea without medical records. I know because he helped my son, Nick Loving, in 1995. Read my book My Son, My Sorrow to find out the truth.
Dr. Kevorkian should be seen as a hero for all of mankind. These laws against assisted suicide must be changed. Humans have a right not to suffer---we give that right to our pets!
He is one of my hero's. I've kept with his story since 1999 and I really think he's a wonderful man. So willing to give up his freedom and go to jail for what he believes in.
Lets see here die with diginity and have a quick painful death on your own terms... or die a slow, painful, drawn out, death only to be told that "you have tob e in constant pain and the most we can do is dull it but you ahve to live with it." THANK YOU OREGON FOR YOUR STEP TOWARDS A SENSIBLE LAW!
In my opinion there is nothing wrong with what he did. People came to him wanting him to end their suffering. Hospice did the same thing he did they just drag it out longer. They give people lethal doses of drugs to help with the pain, those drugs are what ends up killing the patient the majority of the time not the illness.
Jewish people are more likely to believe in assisted suicide. Why am I not surprise? For whatever reason Jewish people (except the hyper-religious ones) seem to think more critically.

They give people lethal doses of drugs to help with the pain, those drugs are what ends up killing the patient the majority of the time not the illness.
