  • Peter Gabriel..............

  • I think it is a little prophetic.....I agree, I love this version the best. <3 to anyone experiencing floods.

  • I know Peter disagrees but I think this is the best version of this song.

  • Once you get past the shitty advertisements you get to the actual song. And what a beauty it is! It's worth persevering believe me. So sad and so good. Thanks AAAmitD.

  • quanto mi piace questa song,,,bellissima

  • love this version

  • saw him in ottawa canada and it was an incredible show...i hope that the rumor of a reunion with genesis is true....

  • amooo esta cancióooooon, gracias por subirlaaaaaa!!!

  • In those days (1978) album buyers had musical taste and Peter Gabriel was an artist who could sell millions. Today few 'music fans' would be interested preferring Gaga.and Beyonce. If Gabriel was trying to make it now, he'd have a tough time of it.

  • Bette Midler covered this song live in the 80's. She did an incredible version and I was the only person in the audience who recognized it. I applauded during the first 3 chords...the only person who applauded. i was embarrassed and proud at the same moment. What a great feeling.

  • @ajhoncantara I have loved Bette since the late 70's when Peter did this album! Where can I find a recording of her doing it? Really! I need it! :-)

  • @littlegreenliza Unfortunately, I can't see anywhere that she recorded it and only performed it live.

  • In Bangkok now, as the flood (and danger), draws closer, I can't resist that rhyme - 'flesh and blood,' indeed - it doesn't get any better. And let's own up about those 'false' ending drum fills...(Courtesy of Alan Schwartzberg)

  • An absolute triumph....

  • touchy ................... izz art

  • One of the most powerful version of the song. I think Peter always tought it was overproduce...but it,s still maybe the most powerful. Fripp took the opposite way in treating it , more intimate, and that was probably a lot closer to Peter's view...But God does the solo guitar at the end is good...I saw his first tour and it was really good...now the tour with the orchestra is very good to...Would be nice to add Fripp on top of the orchestra!

  • Peter was beyond his time,no doubt. This was made back in 1977..Incredible gifted and talented.

  • drink up dreeeeamers... You're running bliiiind. *-* s2

  • This version is so amazing, I have no idea why Peter Gabriel has shunned it, I find the "rawer" piano version in Shaking the Tree quite inferior.

  • tremendous, timeless song. If anything I wish the piano was more at the fore a la his solo versions, but still this is unquestionably an all-time classic.

  • forgot all about this song.....cant stop playing it

  • definitely the better version of the song

  • godlike, i love this old man :D

  • Today there is no so good music. Sorry for my english

  • Brought this album on vinyl today, first Peter Gabriel album I have owned or listened too, long story short, I think I have a new favorite song with this!

  • With 'Wallflower' the best song in Peter discography.

  • This song & mercy street are my faves

  • While the lyrics are only tangental to the catastrophe in Japan, the sentiment, a sort of wistful, nostalgic sadness hits it, and Japanese culture, right on the head. "Don't be afraid to cry at what you see..."

  • The Version with Robert Fripp is waaaay better!

  • @darkbaphomet666 I like both versions, but I agree that the one on Exposure is better.

  • Am I the only one whom thinks this is extremely sadder due to the Japanese tidal wave.

  • @mimefan Yeah, this song is really making me sad today.

  • @Aestros909 I think this proves how brilliant it is, by even though it's been over 30 years since it's release it can still pack a punch.

  • @mimefan Exactly. This is why I came to listen again.

  • @mimefan No need to be sad. You have, in yourself, the ability to assist less fortunate individuals worldwide, if you choose.Financial contributions help; however direct action, may be your calling. Whether today, tomorrow , or some where down the road, perhaps, consider putting life on hold, and fly away to help the needy. Your life will never be the same again. It does work.

Grazie Peter Gabriel. Hei, I think this is an italian car, the name is Lancia Flavia.

  • Cuando Peter Gabriel dejó Genesis e hizo ésto, se me acabó la vida.

  • I love the live version on Shaking the Tree, but this is also so amazing. Love, love, love Peter Gabriel.

  • This is the original studio version. I saw him in Toronto just before this album came out.....he played most of the songs from this album. Bought this the next day after the concert. His best solo album by far.

  • This does not sound like the original version from the studio album.

Does anyone know the source of this newer version?

It is nicely layered. Peters pipes still shine through but the atmosphere is crisp and new.

    Thanks in advance

  • They can slag off Bob Ezrin as much as they like: check the atmosphere.

  • What version is this from and where can I get it?

  • @roddynibbler Form his first self titled solo album that is pictured above. It's the last song on the album.

  • Class!

  • Bloody amazing stuff.....at his very, very best.

  • Peter Gabriel is a legend.

  • great voice

  • Stranded starfish have no place to hide... *sigh*

  • Alsways loved this version of the song. I'd love to see PG and Bob Ezrin work on something together again.

  • Should have been the song that played during the devastating NYC flood scene in the movie "The Day After Tomorrow." Can't, for the life of me, think of a single reason why they didn't use it. Maybe Peter didn't want to let it be used?

  • @Megamomster

That is probably because it's a loathsome idea.

  • Un grande personaggio per una grande song............!!!!

  • This song sounds like it should be in a movie, was it ever?

  • @ladyjerrico It was in the pilot episode of Alias. I'm sure it's made its way into a movie soundtrack or two as well.

  • the definitive better version

  • Comment removed

  • Good song isn't it.

  • @hinault1985 Its not good ! Its brilliant, know what you mean though, Peace.

  • As the nail sunk in the cloud, the rain was warm and soaked the crowed.

  • Don´t be afraid to cry at what you see

  • We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood

  • perfect.

  • Esctatic, exhilarating, sublime !
