  • Hey, thank you. The substrate I'm using in that tank is 100% eco-complete with some ferts added in for growing power. I'm also running a diy co2 setup with about 3.5 to 4 watts per galon of light for 8-10 hours a day.

If you let me know what type of setup you're running, I will be able to help you more.

Mircro Sword is really easy to grow and will take over the tank if you let it.

  • wow that looks amazing. what substrates layer(S) did you use because im trying to plant micro sword and i dont know what to use plz help.

  • hi, my new planted tank, hav few amazon swords, and the younng leaves seem to turn yellow, u seem to know how to grow them, can u plz help me? i use liquid fert, and planted tank substrate from petsmart. ( dont know is it good) i hav diy co2. I ALSO have a vid posted, u can chk it ouut and plz help me!!! and plzs respond

  • @starthi

Hi, I'm very sorry. I've not checked my email for some time, I have a lot going on with life and all. I hope you understand. I would love to see your tanks and help you with any problems you may still be having. Please feel free to contact me when you get this.

    Thanks,

    Sam

  • @smartinytube no prob, it all cool now, it turned out tht too much C02, and made the water acidic. but its fine now. i have low light plants now, but im looking for planting high light plants. like baby tears, so im wondering how many Watts, r u using and for how long? and how many gallons is it? and can u use 40 watts but the brightness of 60 watts , florisent bulb for a planted tank? my tank is about 12 gallon. chk my pg out, i think i have a vid of my tank! thnks in advance!

  • @starthi Hey, I'm happy to hear that you're sill in the hobby and your tanks are doing well. Keep up the good work. As for me, I'm running at 3 - 3.5 watts per gallon over a 29 gallon tank. My lights stay on for about 12 - 14 hours a day and I use a DIY CO2 system when the lights are on. I don't really undetstand the question about the 40 watt bulb really being 60 watts.

Nice tanks, you seem to be doing very well by yourself.

  • iam a started of plants. i have micrograss but i got the less common form that grows fast (Lilaeopsis Mauritius).. I heard that you need CO2 to make them grow faster ..and yes i know that CO2 is good for plants. but where can I get CO2? plus will light that gives off heat be better for plants to grow?

  • Hey,

Well it really depends on what size tank you have. Any tank of 55 gallons or under I would go for a DIY CO2 setup, this is what I use. But, if you have a tank over 55 gallon you will need to get a high-tech setup, and this will cost you around $200 bucks or more.

If you want to try the DIY path, just google DIY CO2 and you will get tons of ideas.

Let me know how it works out and try to post some pics or a vid.

    Later,

  • alright thanks.

  • Beautiful.

What kind of filter are you running on, because I have pretty much the same set up.

65 w of light, diy co2, eco complete...

But with my emperor Biowheel Im not sure if I'm going to lose a lot of Co2 due to agitation of water. Are you using any power heads? What ferts?

Thanks and once again beautiful tank.

  • thanks,

I use two HOB filters, a Bio-Wheel, and a Hush 35. I find this works best, I change one filter at a time so I can keep good bio filtration.

How is your tank going, do you have any pics?

  • @smartinytube hob filters with bio's are horrible for keeping co² in your tank. there sole job is to remove co² through water agitation. just trying to give a some pro advice. your tank looks nice. if u put some ug in front it would add more depth with the ms behind it.

  • The rate at growth depends on many factors, how much light (WPG), what type of substrate or gravel, Co2, and Fertilizers.

If you have the standard 10 gallon hood with a single bulb, the java fern will be ok but the micro will die over time. Please give me more information on your setup, and what will your maintenance routine look like for water changes. Then I can send you a list of plants that will grow under you conditions.

  • that Micro Sword needs co2

  • Hmmm,

Is that a comment or question?

I don't think it needs co2 like baby tears does. I've had it grow nice but slow with 2 wpg and no co2.

  • wow thats beautiful! real long and bushy!

  • thats what she said

  • Hey!

    I have a question.

I just set up a 10 planted tank.

I baught 1 java fern(unded up being to but connected) Some other plant i cant name, and a small patch of micro sword.

    Heres my question..

    Does micro sword spread?

And how long does it tank?

  • Hey,

Sorry, I've been away for a bit. How is the tank going? And yes, under the right conditions micro sword spreads fast.

  • Hey,

Well, I actually to the tank down. I decided to create a 20g wide vivarium. Half land half water.

To be honest in my opinion, It looks better then the planted fish tank i had up a few months ago.

The tank has been up for a month 1/2 now and its been under alot of work, Been changing the land side alot due to flooding. But now, its perfect, Well not perfect, But Im going to keep it this way .

Im planning on getting a whites tree frog from petsmart in a few weeks (:

  • what grass is that and did it spread a?

  • That's a pygmy chain sword and micro sword mix in the foreground.

Yes they spread really fast, I only started with a few plants in the middle. But,I do use high lights, CO2, and ferts.
