@TearsOfWar1 use sharepod. its a small windows app(i think it works for mac to) you dont have to install it. just opne the folder and open the file lol. but its real straight forward it has a small music player and then just a drog and drp thign for ipod music. it also add/removes/manages playlist and crap.
You can make an 8 core PC. Buying any PC prebuilt is ridiculous, and unless you truly know nothing about computers, making your own build is cheaper, and is way easier than most people think.
I've built a number of PCs in the past and disagree. An i7-920 can be purchased with the OS like the HP Elite for about $1,000. It's pretty hard to compete with that price. Also, those machines are so quiet as well. I've never had good luck finding the right fans and/or case to make them silent like that.

I would use the computer just to use it, the only thing I would prolly use under OS X would be Photo Booth, but the built in eye sight camera will be installed with Windows, so I could use a Windows based application as well, so I wouldn't need the OS X operating system anyway.
I create CG animations, I have created my own website, as well as other things, my CG application is only made for the Windows OS, and I don't feel like learning another application.
Then i can tell a Mac wouldn't be right for you. Macs are computer designed for people to do content creation on - they always have been. And theres no point if you're only gonna check email or play around with flash.

But the biggest thing for me also, is the computer. They are beautiful pieces. For me, i would say it's 50 - 50. I chose a Mac because of beautiful design of the computer and the operating system, and how well they work together.
OS X to me has more than what I need, nor care to want, and it doesn't support a lot, I can get more software and hardware support from a Windows computer, plus I like to customize my computer's design, Apple has the same scheme on it's computers, they have color.
Well, the Apple OS is made to work on Apple computers only, that's why they work well together, of course that OSx86 is nice, run OS X on a non-Apple computer, for those who don't want to spend all that money on the brand, that's all.
Well, I like my computer to have a nice design as well as nice color, but nothing beats the guts of the machine, you could have a crappy exterior and have a excellent interior, but I also like being able to customize my computer to my needs in every way, unlike Apple computers, excluding the Mac Pro, is not very customizable at will, I can't go buy something at Best Buy to upgrade a iMac, as far as most of it's interior hardware goes, like the CPU, etc.
I guess that all depends on your budget, first of all, and second of all, resale value of Macs are through the roof right now, so if you really feel, like after 2 or 3 years, that you have to upgrade, it prolly wouldn't be that expensive compareingly. Besides that, you would also get like a whole new computer because apple like to change their design often. To me, the only thing i have to upgrade is the graphics card regularly. Mac Pro can do that.
Nvidia is recommended for Flight Simulator, also, Crysis is best with Nvidia, because Crytek and Nvidia partnered up when making the game, so you will get better performance in Crysis on Nvidia, I have always gotten better performance from a Nvidia card than ATI.
I would spend it, maybe not $8,000, not even $3,000, but because I know Windows has wider software and hardware support, I would spend at least $800 on a system.
Buy a Mac, lose all cool customization features, even if it's the same hardware, except SLI, etc, you can't make the computer look snazzy at the same time.
MS Security Essentials has been able to detect every malicious file I may download and clean it successfully, AVG 9 kept recognizing one of my files as a Trojan when it wasn't, I even replaced the original file, and still it said it was a Trojan.

The default option is the security essentials, which is the free antivirus/spayware that is now free to W7 users however like XP mode rather you are eligible to get it for free or not it is not automatically installed. So what this company is doing is making sure it is on your system from day one, which is something Microsoft should have done.
Also and you will laugh at this. The MS security center still asks for you to install a virus scanner even if you have MS security essentials installed.

You can build a workstation, but the cost of high end Xeon Chips along with ECC RAM is much more expensive compared to consumer i5/i7s.
The reason I'd buy a workstation from an OEM is because I'll most likely be using the machine for work/business and the OEM's warranty typically exceeds the standard warrantys on consumer PCs.
Plus the build quality of an OEM workstation is typically better than what you can find on after market stores like New Egg or Tiger Direct.

I think the HP workstations are pretty good, but they will be as pricey or more as mac pros. I mean if you intend to run a 64 bit of windows, it may be best to go with an HP box vs mac.

Today you can customize the hardware of a PC way more than any Mac to suit your needs. Over 95% of the GPUs made today are only compatible for PC motherboards as it is.
to be fair, the 4850 is a fine card. It can pull its weight on any game short of crysis and far cry 2 at high settings. granted, its no geforce 295 or 5870/5970, but it is still a good card. not for in a $2000 computer, but the card itself is still pretty good. lol

My work paid for both of my workstations. I'm a 3d graphic designer & web developer.
The Quadro FX 5800 actually shares the same chipset as the GTX 295, but has a lower core clock speed for better stability and was programmed to handle Open GL 3.0 applications (CAD, 3ds Max, Maya etc).
The GTX 295 has a much higher core clock speed for higher FPS on direct 3d applications (90% of games).
If you're looking for a gaming graphics card that can handle Open GL 3.0 look at the AT 5900's.
I'm referring to gaming video cards. I know nothing about Nvidia's or ATI's high end workstation cards. They cost thousands of dollars and are mainly used by production studios
For Workstation GPUs Nvidia beats ATI in every price category. It's been that way for over 5 years now.
For Gaming GPUs it's been back and forth. As of now, ATI's 5800 series and above are actually better for video/graphics rendering and for programs that support Open GL like Maya or 3ds Max.

I've noticed that AppleSoldier and several other users have the dock with the white border on the bottom of their screens. I have had Snow Leopard since day one, but can only put that dock on the left and right, and the bottom only has the basic grey Leopard dock. Anyone know anything that can help with this? It seems like I should be able to have the black dock with white border on the bottom, but that isn't an option.
Whoops, you forgot something. Mac Pro 8-core comes with nVidia GT120, which is pretty much slower than ATi's 5850. They offer also 2, 3 or 4 GT120's w/ SLI. Anyways, there is ATi's HD4870 available for Mac Pro at the Store, and it costs 200 extra dollars. Oh wait - now the Mac Pro is only 100 dollars cheaper than that PC you just built. And that PC has pretty fucking much faster GPU.

thats not normal, turning off uac and installing programs, than turning it back on will cause problems with some programs because you are basically fucking up your permissions. Active X is used for many things like media players, download managers etc. Your friend probably did not write a virus, a batch file is not a virus, or a dll that fills up ram. a virus requires no user intervention, you would get it with no warning, and usually require exploits. Mac Osx is filled with those holes.
aslo the only thing for active x is spyware that is installed, not any thing form good well known websites, I have never ran in to an IE only site, I have ran in to Fire fox only sites ,But seeing most people use it so there is no problem there

have you herd of deep freeze, I do not trust my mom with a full admin account, so installed deep freses and all of her files are on a different drive while she can mess 7 up, but also with that, my school uses it and they have never had a virus problem on the student computers only on the teacher computers that they bring in or in the office, as with deep frese every changes are dumped when you restart, so it just work =s

OS X to me has more than what I need, nor care to want, and it doesn't support a lot, I can get more software and hardware support from a Windows computer, plus I like to customize my computer's design, Apple has the same scheme on it's computers, they have color.
Well, the Apple OS is made to work on Apple computers only, that's why they work well together, of course that OSx86 is nice, run OS X on a non-Apple computer, for those who don't want to spend all that money on the brand, that's all.

Well, I like my computer to have a nice design as well as nice color, but nothing beats the guts of the machine, you could have a crappy exterior and have a excellent interior, but I also like being able to customize my computer to my needs in every way, unlike Apple computers, excluding the Mac Pro, is not very customizable at will, I can't go buy something at Best Buy to upgrade a iMac, as far as most of it's interior hardware goes, like the CPU, etc.

I guess that all depends on your budget, first of all, and second of all, resale value of Macs are through the roof right now, so if you really feel, like after 2 or 3 years, that you have to upgrade, it prolly wouldn't be that expensive compareingly. Besides that, you would also get like a whole new computer because apple like to change their design often. To me, the only thing i have to upgrade is the graphics card regularly. Mac Pro can do that.

Nvidia is recommended for Flight Simulator, also, Crysis is best with Nvidia, because Crytek and Nvidia partnered up when making the game, so you will get better performance in Crysis on Nvidia, I have always gotten better performance from a Nvidia card than ATI.

MS Security Essentials has been able to detect every malicious file I may download and clean it successfully, AVG 9 kept recognizing one of my files as a Trojan when it wasn't, I even replaced the original file, and still it said it was a Trojan.

The default option is the security essentials, which is the free antivirus/spayware that is now free to W7 users however like XP mode rather you are eligible to get it for free or not it is not automatically installed. So what this company is doing is making sure it is on your system from day one, which is something Microsoft should have done.

You can build a workstation, but the cost of high end Xeon Chips along with ECC RAM is much more expensive compared to consumer i5/i7s.
The reason I'd buy a workstation from an OEM is because I'll most likely be using the machine for work/business and the OEM's warranty typically exceeds the standard warrantys on consumer PCs.
Plus the build quality of an OEM workstation is typically better than what you can find on after market stores like New Egg or Tiger Direct.

My work paid for both of my workstations. I'm a 3d graphic designer & web developer.
The Quadro FX 5800 actually shares the same chipset as the GTX 295, but has a lower core clock speed for better stability and was programmed to handle Open GL 3.0 applications (CAD, 3ds Max, Maya etc).
The GTX 295 has a much higher core clock speed for higher FPS on direct 3d applications (90% of games).
If you're looking for a gaming graphics card that can handle Open GL 3.0 look at the AT 5900's.

For Workstation GPUs Nvidia beats ATI in every price category. It's been that way for over 5 years now.
For Gaming GPUs it's been back and forth. As of now, ATI's 5800 series and above are actually better for video/graphics rendering and for programs that support Open GL like Maya or 3ds Max.

I've noticed that AppleSoldier and several other users have the dock with the white border on the bottom of their screens. I have had Snow Leopard since day one, but can only put that dock on the left and right, and the bottom only has the basic grey Leopard dock. Anyone know anything that can help with this? It seems like I should be able to have the black dock with white border on the bottom, but that isn't an option.

Whoops, you forgot something. Mac Pro 8-core comes with nVidia GT120, which is pretty much slower than ATi's 5850. They offer also 2, 3 or 4 GT120's w/ SLI. Anyways, there is ATi's HD4870 available for Mac Pro at the Store, and it costs 200 extra dollars. Oh wait - now the Mac Pro is only 100 dollars cheaper than that PC you just built. And that PC has pretty fucking much faster GPU.

thats not normal, turning off uac and installing programs, than turning it back on will cause problems with some programs because you are basically fucking up your permissions. Active X is used for many things like media players, download managers etc. Your friend probably did not write a virus, a batch file is not a virus, or a dll that fills up ram. a virus requires no user intervention, you would get it with no warning, and usually require exploits. Mac Osx is filled with those holes.

Why did you turn it off? You can play any game with UAC on. You just need to know how to configure the permissions.
Here is what you do. Go to user acounts and make yourself limited user.

have you herd of deep freeze, I do not trust my mom with a full admin account, so installed deep freses and all of her files are on a different drive while she can mess 7 up, but also with that, my school uses it and they have never had a virus problem on the student computers only on the teacher computers that they bring in or in the office, as with deep frese every changes are dumped when you restart, so it just work =s

I do need, it, so the system is restored when the computer is shut down the program takes only like 15gb on the 360gb hdd, 7 has 50gb and the rest is just my moms data. I am getting her a Mac book for x-mas, tho, as she fell in love with mine, also most apps I have found do have a mac variant, like utorrent, on the mac there is one called transmission, and its stupid easy and I use an 333MH imac g3 for my torrent downloading, get a dell at 333mh to do that. and this computer also runs a scrsavor

Actually if you want to get technical about who bitched about iTunes, it was Apple Corp (a music company stared by the Beatles back in 1978). After some lawsuits, Appe Computer promised not to do anything in recards to music. When iTunes came out Apple Corp dropped lawsuits saying it was a breach of contract.

First of all it never came to canada till late in the game and there was lots of zunes that failed or did no work out of the box, I do know about the apple pippin, but Back at the time the Genesis and the snes were one of the best home game systems, so it was a failer to better systems that were out at the time

Again AppleSoldier like to like!!! How is when you add the features that are free on the PC to the MAC it is about $700 more and when you add all the extras about the same.

That company you show at the beginning the pugot well anyway they were freakin expensive and its just custom build parts and the company just puts it together, I could build on newegg with the xeons for a decent amount cheaper
