I go to dj sets of artists like this and think jeeze the electro community is full of twats yet I come on here and find peace of mind in all your witty and moving remarks. Played guys.
I don't understand why people keep calling this song juvenile or like unicorns. It feels like a song of experiences and realizations. It's absolutely beautiful to me and I'm almost insulted to see all these people perceiving it in such a shallow way.
@holdenmcclure Its not that they perceive it in a shallow way, its just that they arnt pretentious enough to take it so seriously, or mellow-dramatic enough to truly tell what it makes them feel.
This track is like you climbing out of the side of a mountain staring over a large plane with the sun peaking over the top lighting up the sky brilliantly after a long, treacherous journey through hell. Then all your closest friends that you lost during the journey climb out behind you and share the view while a warming breeze blows across the groves of your face. I remember hearing this when I first listened to the album. The transition between Totem Crackerjack (The final fight in hell) and th
I agree, amongst all Clark's extremely depressive tones or otherwise aggressive distortion in this album, this song really stood out as rather uplifting.
Have you heard Totems Flare outside of Youtube? I have the actual physical album. While his individual istruments might be maxed and compressed to hell, the songs themselves are still full of dynamics. If you open up Future Daniel in Audacity and look at the entire song in waveform, it looks like a wall of sound. But if you zoom in to maybe a 3-second portion, you can see the dynamics clear as day.
And I agree, he is definitely one of the more relevant and meaningful IDM artists.
dude if u zoom in no matter how compressed it is there will be waves, audio cant exist without them. If it looks like a block then there are no dynamics. Doesnt mean I dont love the album though
But what I'm saying is, the song *as a whole* isn't compressed, at least not to a degree that destroys dynamics. There's lots of sidechaining, where room is being made in loud sounds for the quiet ones. When you look at the waveform, yeah, a good amount of the waves are peaking at or near 0db, but a lot of the waves are peaking at volumes much lower than that. Clark just uses compression in a misleading way to make his songs very loud and full.
open up a song from pre 2000 and see what dynamics look like. You can hear the compression in clarks songs, esp this one and it takes the increase in volume to cause a big impact out of the drops. Not a major problem but this song is far more compressed than most.
I want this song to be about Daniel Faraday so bad. I mean one of my favorite electronic acts naming a song after my favorite character in my favorite show?
his compositions are simple without the effects and post production, yeah, but i think that's by design and i prefer it to songs that go try to go a hundred different places
This song makes me believe unicorns actually exist.
