There is something unusually scary about this scene. It starts off so modestly, with people even making fun of the monster. There's no suspense, dramatic shots, threatening music, the monster is not covered in the dark... when the monster attacks it's like you're helplessly standing there yourself. Great!

This film fails on so many levels. My friend was stationed in South Korea and the topic of anti-Americanism in South Korea came up. He told me that virtually everyone he met in South Korea hated Americans - and especially hated our military bases there - and that all of the films he saw over there protrayed America and Americans as evil and retarded. He listed this movie as a perfect example so I looked it up on wikipedia and checked out the plot and reviews.

From what I read about the plot, a U.S. military scientist dumps a bunch of dangerous chemicals into the South Korean water supply because he's an evil retarded douchebag (aka the typical American according to most South Koreans it seems) and that was supposed to symbolize how Americans don't give a fuck about the concerns and health of the locals.

I read on and apparently this was based on a real event in 2001 but that it was a KOREAN who was working for the U.S. military who dumped dangerous chemicals into a sink. I watched the first few minutes of the film and they revsered the roles in a film where an extremely cartoonish depiction of an evil American military researcher orders a skeptical and hesitant Korean staffer to dump the chemicals down the drain to much protest. Wow. What a lame cheapshot at America and the U.S. military.
