I see you're OCD about killing everything even when you don't need to, just like me.
I'm into real RPGs too, but Zelda II took way too long to level, and the action got too hard in spots.
I've beaten this game long ago, but when I played recently, Link actually died in the sewers due to my keyboard not letting me move and attack at the same time.
@chapacoka Like in Ocarina of Time, Link and Zelda are on land. But in Skyward Sword, when they're older, Zelda said she wonders what it's like to be on the surface, "Land". So obviously somethings going on here.
hmm majora's mask was good, but not my favorite 4 main dugeons. just didn't do it for me. no dugeon at all has come close to topping the fire temple for favorite dugeon.
@letsplayerwannabe Thanks for clearing that up. I always misspell the word linear unless it's near by. come tell me your idea. I have a really good idea and I would like to see if someone can check it out.
Yeah, that's one of the things I like most about Zelda games. I like looking around for everything and exploring the world. My mother and I were playing this earlier in the year and we were having a grand old time collecting everything.
Yeah, that's why I liked Oracle of Seasons a bit more than Ages; the latter had a lot more mini-games for almost everything which I felt slowed the pace of the game down.
Yeah I've never understood why there's such hatred for Zelda 2. It's one of my favorites in the series. You can't really blame them for making it side scrolling and going against "tradition" because there was only one Zelda game before that. I guess the one downside is the lack of puzzles, but still, it was awesome in my opinion.
@PianoManT One of the things that annoyed me about Twilight Princess was the fact that the Kakariko Village music sounded way off. This is my favorite song from LttP and OoT.
Fun fact about the fortune teller, when you have your fortune read your health also gets a complete refill. (at least in the GBA version) There are other (free) ways of getting healed, but when you're in a pinch you'll be wise to take what you can get.
The one thing that always struck me about this game was that you technically saved princess zelda and hyrule is fine but yet you still have an entire quest...
Yep, I have the GBA version, and the script was changed quite a bit. It feels less awkward and stilted than the original, and some things are renamed or rephrased (Seven Sages, for example)
I'm one of the rare people in the "didn't like Majora's Mask" camp. I found the game to be completely unimmersive. "What's the Cucco Lady doing here? What's up with these Malon clones? Why is Ruto wearing a dress now?" The least they could have done was recolor the textures or something, but instead I kept getting reminded of how much I'd rather be playing Ocarina of Time. There's more to it than that, but alas, there is but so much time and character space one has.
@Rusaarules If I remember the enclosed instruction book correctly, it actually had a hint saying "Help, I can't get out of the castle tunnels!" "Try pushing the blocks in your way."
Whenever it gets cold I don't feel like doing anything, but Cooking or sleeping. I really need to finish up Super Mario Galaxy 2 now that I've unlocked the Green Stars.
Hey HC I'm curious as to why Majora's Mask is your favorite in the series. I really thought LttP would be your number 1, as it was a snes game (your favorite era of games?) thus had the graphics and music sound you love, as well as a handful of dungeons and a decent difficulty level (challenging compared to future additions to the series). Care to elaborate on what you loved so much about MM?
@proadam09 Majora's Mask is the only game in the series that I've played that I felt had a great plot, quality NPCs, and kickass music. Generally, I feel the focus of the Zelda series on the gameplay, but MM really took the other aspects to another level.
@HCBailly I personally feel Majora's Mask has a huge amount of personality for a Zelda game, not to mention it's the only Zelda game where I can truly imagine myself as a resident of the game's world. I truly feel sucked into Majora's Mask when I play it, that I know some things about it by heart :)
@HCBailly It's ironic that you say that. Eiji Aonuma has said in interviews (especially for SS) that he prefers to build a game's story around the gameplay instead of the other way around. Frankly, as far as adventure games go, I have to agree with that. It's why Darksiders and Brave Fencer Musashi are good. RPGs are easier since the story and the gameplay elements can and often are separate
@HCBailly It felt like the side quests were more important then the main quest which was cool each NPC had a story to tell. MM is currently tied with OoT because It was my first Zelda.
Hey HC Bailey? Have you played The Wind Waker yet? Majora's Mask is also my favorite too, but I feel TWW also had amazing music and a great story. It follows the traditional Zelda path, but the characters and writing is superb and great,
Something I noticed with SNES Zelda with sword swings. The further you are away, feels like a grazing/glancing blow = 2 hits. The closer I was it seemed like a one shot. Can't verify this, but it makes sense in reality. More sword = more hurt. Just a thought... OR maybe I just got really into it. >_>
Oh how I love the snes days, so many great games. While there are some great games in the present. Nothing brings as much nostalgia, and ability to replay a game over and over as much as the earlier games do
Zelda 2 hatedom is a case of "It's different therefore it sucks"
It's good for what it is. People shouldn't judge games by comparing them to others. They should judge them by their own merits. How you tell if you think a game is good. Ask yourself. "Are you having fun?". If you say yes it's a good game.
@jammo2000 I completely agree. And this theory can be applied to more then just games. People hated Metallica's St. Anger because it lacked in comparison to their other albums, but was fine for what it was. In the video game world, Final Fantasy XII and XIII fall under this theory for sure. Both were great titles but they innovate and develop and the series instead of just cloning FF7, so people dislike them. The theory of "it's different so it sucks" is definitely valid.
@FlamesUnderneath Thanks for telling me, I didn't know about the LP's. I love looking at the roots of games to see how they have developed into the games I love.
07:33 Don't hear many people claim Majora's Mask as their favorite in the series. It's not my favorite, but definitely up there. Loved all the sidequests & characters for that game. I'm glad to see that you are going for as much of the side items as possible right away. That's personally how I play the game myself.
I really enjoy watching these on my lunch breaks. I teach at a pretty rough school, so seeing these bits of my childhood really make me feel better. HC, you the man!
@StanleyIRichards Me.Played all Final Fantasy main games (none of the spinoffs),but none of the Zelda games because I HATE HATE HATE...HATE HATE Nintendo.
Heck yea! Majora's Mask, Link to the Past and the original Legend of Zelda are the all-time top3 Zelda games, hands down. The actual order I'm not too sure about, but Majora probably deserves the top spot. Heck, it's the only Zelda that has any character development!
Zelda is your density. I mean, your destiny. To me, it really takes three things to make an RPG: Two or more playable characters, experience levels, and damage numbers. Zelda 2 feels pretty close to one though, despite only having one of those things. Always elated to see Majoras get some love.
@NintendoCapriSun Actually now that I think about it, I do consider Dragon Warrior an RPG despite only having one playable character, so I guess it's variable.
@NintendoCapriSun Yea, in my opinion majoras mask and zelda 2 are the closest zelda games to true rpgs, while true you are playing the role of link, but considering that majoras mask technically had more than one playable character, and zelda 2 had the level up system it takes for a good rpg, all in all both of them were great games.
@NintendoCapriSun I don't really consider "Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask" much of an RPG. I find it closer to an action/adventure game with RPG elements. I still find it a great game though. In the end, I believe the classification of an RPG game is completely subjective.
Ps. This is the 3rd comment of your's I've commented on. I guess that makes me a youtube stalker XD Great Vids by the way.
This is interesting. The last LP of LttP that I watched had the first pendent by the end of the second video. But he didn't get everything. I always seem to be missing 1 or 2 hearts at the end of the game, I'm ready to learn where they are :)
I mean how could the news travel fast if there was no one left to give the news. I mean it looked like you took out almost ever knight in the castle and the King's dead. I mean who would you believe a suspicious wizard or an innocent (six year old child lol) Idk you got me there HCBailly and I played this game too many times to count. If only there was a way to travel to through time..oh wait wrong game :)
Makes me want to play ALttP again this year. But I still have Skyward Sword to finish up.
Great game though and I always love watching people play through it even if I know the game way better than I need to. I think I have beaten it around 30+ times in my life.
you know what else has endless minigames just to continue on in the story, the ratchet and clank games, except for deadlock and all 4 one. so if you dislike minigames that much then avoid that series, (even though it would be nice to see you play some of them)
So, Skyward Sword LP? i know one of my favorite LPers is going to do it, i'm wondering who's going to be first. i can't play the game, but i'm extremely excited for *someone* to do a LP of it. xD
@scarletspeed7 My previous two side LPs went shorter than expected. I wanted to have at least a few months between SD3 LPs, so I figured I'd throw this one in too. SD3 will be next.
@HCBailly Understood. So will there be a similar gap between the two remaining paths on SD3? I'm loving the surprise Zelda regardless, so thanks for the update!
lol its seems the enemies in skyward sword can't see two feet to the left or right of them and can barley see in front of them, its pretty hilarious how ridiculous it is ^_^
@HolyHeeroYui I read an interview with Aonuma (I think) who said that they'd like to make a Majora's Mask for 3DS, but are looking for a way for players to play it more leisurely so they don't have to save by going back in time or finding a statue, but can save on the fly (ie: in a dungeon).
Albeit Majoras Mask was a solid Zelda game, it doesn't make my top 5 Zelda games. Out of the top 10, it would be number 7 or 8. The ammount of sidequests and heartpieces just wears on one. Still a good game though. Link to the Past? Definitely number 3.
Is this a casual playthrough of a Link to the past or will you being doing a 100% run? also i love your run so far. I look forward to the rest of your LP. I have played this game to death because it is my favorite Zelda game (really i have played this game 3 times for my channel and over 50 times just for fun). I LOVE THIS GAME!!!
@Vandalia1998 I think my sister got it a week after it came out. i was not even one yet when it came out. My favorite Zelda game came out the year i was born.

Great game though and I always love watching people play through it even if I know the game way better than I need to. I think I have beaten it around 30+ times in my life.

Whoa - think this is the first time I've heard HCBailly quote Symphony of the Night.
puwexil608 2 months ago
Majora's Mask is my favorite from the series as well. Although, Skyward Sword was absolutely fantastic.
axemranger 2 months ago
you know what else has endless minigames just to continue on in the story, the ratchet and clank games, except for deadlock and all 4 one. so if you dislike minigames that much then avoid that series, (even though it would be nice to see you play some of them)

In that passage between the castle and the Church HCBaily, the enemies that take 1 hit are rats and the ones that take 2 hits are snakes.

@HCBailly would you ever LP that Castlevania game? (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.)

So, Skyward Sword LP? i know one of my favorite LPers is going to do it, i'm wondering who's going to be first. i can't play the game, but i'm extremely excited for *someone* to do a LP of it. xD

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure BTW that Link's uncle isn't dead.
ff2paladin 2 months ago
And it would have been interesting if Majora's Mask actually was an RPG with Link, Tatl, Mikau, Darmani, and the Deku as a party.
SilentWeaponsIII 2 months ago
Mr. Bailly should totally play 3D Dot Game Heroes, or Alundra.
Both amazing Zelda-esque games.
Pretty tough too.

bingostar826 2 months ago
@bingostar826 And with Skyward Sword and Ocarina of Time 3D, this seems to be an overall good year to be a Zelda fan.

So, um, is this INSTEAD of Seiken Densetsu 3? No complaints, just curious. Thought that was next.
scarletspeed7 2 months ago 2
@scarletspeed7 My previous two side LPs went shorter than expected. I wanted to have at least a few months between SD3 LPs, so I figured I'd throw this one in too. SD3 will be next.
HCBailly 2 months ago 2
@HCBailly Understood. So will there be a similar gap between the two remaining paths on SD3? I'm loving the surprise Zelda regardless, so thanks for the update!

SilentWeaponsIII 2 months ago
Ah~ HCBaily loves Majora's Mask too. <3
I love that game to death. There's actually a lot more story to the game then a lot of people, even reviewers, give that game credit for.
I so hope Nintendo remakes Majora's Mask for the 3DS like they did for OOT.
HolyHeeroYui 2 months ago
@HolyHeeroYui I read an interview with Aonuma (I think) who said that they'd like to make a Majora's Mask for 3DS, but are looking for a way for players to play it more leisurely so they don't have to save by going back in time or finding a statue, but can save on the fly (ie: in a dungeon).

When you consider that the village isn't too far from the castle, having a wanted sign up isn't too out of the question.

@DemonKingAtticus I once named Link "Ganon", so that Ganon would be wanted by the King of Hyrule!

Majora's Mask is my favourite in the series too. I just can't get enough of sidequests and secret items in general.
Dyluck387 2 months ago
Albeit Majoras Mask was a solid Zelda game, it doesn't make my top 5 Zelda games. Out of the top 10, it would be number 7 or 8. The ammount of sidequests and heartpieces just wears on one. Still a good game though. Link to the Past? Definitely number 3.
