@ThatsSoChizz Well not all rabbits can do this, or like to do this, so yes, you should be careful with each rabbit. But, break its back? No. It would take a lot more force than a simple awkward twist for them to break their own backs.
That being said, thanks for adopting from a shelter! Shelter buns are the best buns!
@sylvienix When we first adopted him from the shelter, the woman there showed us how to hold rabbits (as we never had one before). He was particularly skittish and hyper and showed us a trick to calm him down. She held him in the crook of her arm and he went into a trance-like state. We figured out that he would stay in that state as long as he stayed on his back and one day put him on the floor like this.
this is actually very bad for your rabbit. it can cause trouble with his breathing, and if he kicked out he could break his back. you should NEVER put a rabbit oh his back. (i'm not calling you a bad owner, i'm sure you take care of him very well, but please look it up on a rabbit website). my rabbit will flop into a relaxed position on her side with her eyes closed, and this is normally what is known as 'playing dead'.
Its like he's a catatonic schizophrenic rabbit. Some schizophrenics do something similar to that at random times. At least Atilla is cute when he does it.
awh my bunny does that too. its adorable. but when ever i touch her she'll jerk back to a relaxation pose. hahaha plus her "play dead' only lasts for a few seconds :P she did it once right beside me (her legs were like spazing? dont know if thats the right word to use) <3333 bunnies soooo much!
When Attila is in his "trance" if you touch his feet, it's like he's ticklish. His feet will tremble and jerk, but he stays in his "trance." We're trying to teach our other bun to play dead, but she doesn't like it too much haha
Yeah you can train them. The other bun we have hates being on her back, but we've trained her to rest on her back in the crook of my roommate's arm, or mine. She won't go into a trance like Attila, but will chill.
I'm trying to get a video of her doing it, but she's not cooperating!
haha so cute. i have a video of mine doing it on youtube too on my channel but he flips over waaayyy earlier than him.
