i bought a roland jx-8p but i think i would have been better off to save for a polysix with knobs. for the great deal i got i didnt do to badly though.
Some people say (and I may have to agree with them, to a degree), that the VSTs are actually BETTER than the original Polysix and Mono/Poly, sound-wise anyways. Believe it or not they're actually warmer. There's nothing like the hands-on approach of the original though.
It's pretty decent, but I would definitely try to get the real thing. Virtual analog may be as good as the real thing, but it's way better to have the real thing.
i don't think so....they are different. i have a Juno6 and while it is a very nice synth, unless the chorus is engaged there just isn't much power or character to the sound. PWM on the Polysix sounds much better, and unison on the Juno is nowhere near as good as the P6.
Also the Polysix is funkier thanks to the 'wet' SSM filter.
apples & oranges, really - that's why we all need both! ;-D
In my opinion this machine is better for pads as Roland D-50 (but that's an other type of synthesis). Also, it's good for basses. Unfortunately, I only own the VSTi version of it, but I want the real stuff with all of it's up and downsides. I've realized this when I got my Poly-800.
I used to have one of these and traded it for a prophet 600 synth the polysix was good at bass weird sounds and strings it kept in tune very well for an analog synth

not warmer digital is not capable of being relatively warm without an extremely high bit rate

So, does this synthesizer have anythings to do with the band, the Polysics? They use a *lot* of warped synth effects... ^^
