  • You will be missed Constantinople. And you will be missed Byzantine Empire, the last true link to Rome.

  • @RothrilSectolith mehmet II declared himself ceasar and turkish sultans used the title ceasar. maybe thats a relief :)

  • @batulefou And the russians made the title Tzar.. meaning Caesar.. and the Germans (holy Roman empire) had Kaisers. also meaning Caesar. The Byzantine were the last true link, because they were the eastern roman empire, and the ruling families of the Byzantines were relative to those of ancient rome.

  • @RothrilSectolith none of them had the constantinopolis.

  • @batulefou Regardless of who was in control Constantinople, They were not the bloodline descendents of the Romans. The turks simply conquered the last remnants of a dieing 2,200 year old Legacy of Roman Rule.

  • @RothrilSectolith Absolutely, the importance and significance of the Byzantine Empire is severely underplayed today. The era of mixed Levantine cultures are sadly long gone.

  • raising hope brought me too to here

  • i came here cause i couldn't find constantinople on a map

  • i love listening to this song and my teacher dancing and singing too it(: ms.jackson!!! yay

  • My friend won a free roundtrip to Istanbul next year. What time span should be visit and what events should he attend if he likes art, music, history and culture AND/but only speaks English. He is Christian and has an Armenian last name via his Dad.

  • Great!! I never heard the original version of this song. I am only familiar with the cover version by They Might Be Giants.

  • Makes me sad that the Americans are so uneducated. First of all the city was created by Greek-Roman Emperor Constantine, the city's historic name is Constantinople and it the official name was Constantinople until 1453, Turkish delight? are the song-writers serious? Everything in Constantinople has Greek touch in it, starting from architecture to general culture. And believe me in 1920 Greece was outside Constantinople ready to re-capture it. The Americans really ought to read some history.

  • @GiratinaOriginAwakes First: The Four Tops were from Canada. So quit hating on Americans for things we did not do. Second: If you are relying on pop songs fro historical accuracy... well that is a serious flaw on your part. I use Wiki. Third: I believe they are making a pun when they say "Turkish Delight." It references the Ottoman Empire/Turks and a delicious confection. Fourth: Thanks for your wonderful historcal snipet about the city!

  • @GiratinaOriginAwakes Cool story, bro!

  • @husker7141 Like it or not, that is the truth, and if it wasn't for the Greeks, Europe would've been captured by arab-muslim-brown skinned races, the US wouldn't even exist, such disrespect shows what a retard race the Americans are :), husker you're not an intelligent person one can tell by your comment, now please fuck off and stop trolling, go outside, get a job, a girlfriend finger yourself or something.

  • @GiratinaOriginAwakes 1st: I am not Husker. Husker gave you a compliment. 2nd: I was not trolling. Like you, I was clarifing a discrepancy. You blamed "Americans" for being unedcated. I assumed you meant "people from the United States," so I pointed out that the Four Tops are not from the US, but from Canada. No disrespect meant at the time. 3rd: I then thanked you for your input about the history of that region. How does that come off as trolling? 4th: My wife would dislike it if I had a GF.

  • @GiratinaOriginAwakes Fuck the Greeks. They can't even run their own country.

  • @atarian345 never said they could xD i'm just saying.

  • @GiratinaOriginAwakes

Contrary to popular belief were not all Idiots, its just the ones like mr.husker7141 who go on youtube and start arguements for no reason whatsoever.

  • @GiratinaOriginAwakes

The official name wasn't changed to Istanbul until the Turkish Republic. Also, the city was founded long before Constantine.

  • I can't get this song out of my head. Hearing it again doesn't seem to help.

  • @KnightLock

    Absolute;y

I just have to say "Istanbul" any time any ,where and it starts in my head again ...for days....lol

I think the best/worst song ever for that for me...... :D

  • A song made famous by Da Doox.

  • Assassin creed will bee set here!

  • Lol

  • My social studies teacher played this in class. :)

  • @Mirandacosgrovefan90 OMG mine too! cept' he played the They Might Be Giants version.

  • my social studies teacher showed me this and we all sang along with it!!!

  • My social studies teacher had this on itunes and also the lyrics

  • Çok güzel! The arrangement (campy jazz orchestra) actually reminds my of music from classic James Bond movies...they should have worked this one into "From Russia with Love"! BTW, the name "Istanbul" derives from the Greek phrase "εις την Πόλιν" or "στην Πόλη" [istimbolin], both meaning "in the city" or "to the city," Constantinople having been popularly called "The City" during Byzantine times.

  • My social studies teacher has been playing this everyday! but its played alot faster (my account is actually Sing4ever1999 im on my bros haha)

  • My social studies teacher use to play this weekly. It was weird.

  • my history class brought me to this song

  • @Andykthecool I think you mean "68 people don't know that Istanbul is Constantinople"

  • @AntiChristAntiFail

No then he should have said "68 people don't know that Istanbul WAS Constantinople". Just as they say in the song.

  • @Andykthecool Its also Byzantium

  • my History teacher played this song

  • My Ap Teacher played this in Class!!! <3
