  • This is an amazing arrangement. Almost wish they played this version when I saw them last year...but the full one is also great. I have fond memories of listening to the album version (sneakily, under cover of a hoodie) as my plane took off from Sky Harbor last summer :)

  • has to be my favourite song ever made. the heavy chorus sounds ridiculously good

  • Look at all the bucket hats out there!

  • AAAGH! I love it when they play it with the heavy chorus!

  • They played this in its entirety when I saw them in Grand Rapids. Fucking awesome.

  • Best 5 minutes of my day. And hey, it's a great day.

  • They played this song for like 15 minutes in Edmonton on Monday!

  • Shoulda played the whole 16 minutes <3

  • That was Awsome.

  • Comment removed

  • this song sounds much better live

  • this guy are waaaaayyyyyyy better than mcr...

  • @mrhu91081 well yeeeeaahhh....!!! All that main stream emo shit is shit. go look at the "second wave emo" section on the "emo" wikipedia entry. its got a shit ton of amazing artists, like Thursday, the Get Up Kids, Saves the Day, Sunny Day Real Estate, so many! check it out, its ALL good

  • the chorus for this song is f-ing awesome!

  • great live version! really played the crowd! but man... the 16 minute album version... nothing else in the world quite like that song

  • @NinjaDeathstarVideos agreed man! awesome stuff!

  • @NinjaDeathstarVideos BAHbuh.BAHbuh...buuuhh duuuh daaaahhhh...

  • why dont JEW write songs like this anymore...

  • @ozmodium This stuff is my favorite, but I still like their new stuff.

  • @ozmodium haha, i thought you meant jew as in jewish people....

  • that was fuchin awesome!

  • my favourite JEW song. Just something about it that strikes me

  • I had know idea that this was based on "a prayer for owen meany", one of my favorite Irving novels. One of my favorite JEW songs just got better. SICK

  • 4:07 is like mind blowing!! the crowd is like gettin the end of the song cheer into full swing and JEW's like STFU!!! bam heres some fucktastic rock!!!!!! man that crapyourpants goodness until 4:41.

  • Who thought that a couple of chord changes could beef up a song so much?

  • nice quality! JEW!

  • The crowd does not know how to react

  • @ghostwolf52 Just Jim and Zach are

  • @Ocredin This new Youtube is kinda a pain...

  • The band is from Mesa, Arizona - a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona. Sky Harbor is the international airport in Phoenix.

  • These guys Replaced MCR at Soundwave (that im going to on sunday) Fucking EPIC switch

reason was because MCR lead singer has Severe vocal problems at the moment ......

... personally i think that guy has had severe vocal problems the whole time

  • @phynyte lol i wonder where those vocal problems came from? too much pen0r chugging?

  • @phynyte MCR is one of the best bands ever! You shouldnt say that about Gerard Way, he is one of the best vocalists ever! Now they are even more popular due to their new album release so that is a horrible switch.

  • @MrRainbowTacos Personal Preference i guess dude.

but yes i agree i am wrong to say that about MCR, they are very talented musicians ...regardless of if i like the band of not

  • so i just replayed this for the 3rd time and i have to say the build up and that outro at the end are put this song on another level. great live performance jew!

  • Man, what an update this video is.

Is that Tommy? Man! he got fat.

  • @secretchristian Lol, read the description and see that your update is almost 7 years late -=_=-

  • vexur38 (15 hours ago)

LOL, Which means your reply is 7 years 1 month and 15 hours late. :Þ

You also got a thumb down, dum, dum, just in case the one I got came from you, lucy. LOL :Þ

  • @secretchristian dude... the video was in 2003. haha it's seven years later...

  • And what is today? It is now.

    :Þ

  • @secretchristian wut? why are you "secretchristian"? stand up and support your religion.

  • jasonroxorz (5 days ago)

Which religion is that which you are typing about?

  • THIS VIDEO GIVES ME THE SHIVERS

  • awesome performance!

  • JEW always brings it strong live.

  • good band.. so underrated. but they do get a lot of love here in AZ. I usually like more intricate music, but even though they sound kinda poppy its good stuff.

  • Oh yeah, wait, I have to post a comment.

    The song is great.

  • amazing video

i love the band they are so awesome and they have a great sound

  • yeah but it ends an amazing album in a gradual way....i liked it

  • i would say that the instrumental part is the best part of the song, makes it much different

e from the others. but it's a personal taste

  • If people weren't in such a rush and bothered the listen to the 16 minute version then they'd realize that it's actually quite intricate and complex. They're continuously adding more instruments and more vocal loops to the point where a new one is added almost every measure. But at the same time if you don't want to listen for the subtle changes it can still put you in an emotional limbo...It's genius.

  • yeah i know 16 min version is THE SHIT but i think this version is good for a regular show, that thing they do of getting louder instead of quieter at the chorus is great for live performance but when listening to clarity as a whole you should hear THE WHOLE if they have done this version in Clarity X10 it would have been EPIC FAIL

  • QUE VIVA JIMMY EAT WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jimmy eat world mexico

  • Sky Harbor is an airport in Arizona. I live right by it. Jimmy Eat World is from my hometown. They are so amazing.

  • I love the energy of this song live! spectacular

  • this song sounds better live

  • goodbye sky harbour is an awesome song, but man it can't be compared to only in dreams. Because for me Only In Dreams is pure masterpiece, can't be described by words

  • dude, are you kidding me? the full version of Goodbye Sky Harbour is about 500 times better than Only In Dreams. I mean everything off The Blue Album is great, but Goodbye Sky Harbour is a much better song.

  • I agree. I love GSH and I love all of the blue album but the only song I don't love on the blue album is only in dreams.. Idk, i just don't dig it. It's long and uninteresting to me. GSH is very interesting.

  • thats a bit ridiculous quite frankly. while modern emo bands are obsessed with such things, i'm certain j.e.w, and this song, have nothing to do with wrist slitting! i mean, wtf!

  • you are right, this song was based off the book, i think everyone should read. Its about a boy named Owen Meany who dies a hero. Its one amazing story!!

  • Almost every line in the song is quote from the book "A Prayer for Owen Meany." There is a scene in the book at the Sky Harbor airport, hence the song title.

  • One of the best live songs I ever heard

  • I love it when the crowd start clapping before a song ends. Douchebags...........)

  • dude sky harbour is the name of my states airport and jimmy is from my state crazy

  • they did that on purpose...

  • i know i was just being blond

  • @rubytiger7137 That's because this song is about the book "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Erving. The end of the book takes place at Sky Harbour Airport in Arizona and all of the lyrics from this song are direct quotes from the book. You should read it, it's really an amazing book (with an amazing song to match thanks to Jimmy eat world) : )

  • nice video! xD n

  • it's also has a few lines that reference the movie simon birch, with the main character constantly refering to himself as a small instrument of God(hence the line He said I am but one small instrument, do you remember that?)

  • simon birch was based off of a prayer for owen meany...john irving didnt think it could be accurately represented in a movie and asked the names be changed

  • EXPLANATION: Owen was an instrument of God by saving some Vietnamese children, which resulted in his death at Sky Harbor airport. He had a dream foretelling his death and saw his dead body, but his spirit was rising up to heaven above the palm trees with his friend Johnny getting smaller and smaller below. Johnny had kept on questioning his belief that Owen knew of his own death. Johnny constantly said "Remember that?" in the novel and prayed to have his friend back, to hear his VOICE again.

  • Actually....Owen was the one who constantly said Remember That. Yes I'm quite petty ^_^

  • 16 minutes of EPICNESS

  • que padre casion ojala que bengan a mexico (the jimmy)

  • Nice, the studio version is a brooding epic yet the live version is more of a straight rocker, Nice.

  • they played this when i saw them. it was awesome!

  • great really great song...My band Warning Signs are really inspired from Jimmy eat world

  • I love that this song is 15 minutes long. There is nothing too much about that. Its the simplicity of a few looped chord changes and then it gets all danced out...i don't know about anyone else, but i listen to the whole thing everytime. Its epic!

  • and when i play along on guitar

  • brilliant song ... i absolutley LOVE jimmy eat world !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what is sky harbour btw?

when i hear that i think of the floating city in Mortal Engines by Philip Reeve. such a good book.

  • Sky Harbor is the airport in Phoenix, Arizona. The song is actually based off of A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving.

  • way better than the orginal.

original is a good relaxing song, but 16 minutes is a bit much to say that it barely changes except vocal harmonies. v ambitious tho.

  • normal version is over 16 mins long, good song

  • amazing

  • awesome song their! i feel quite shocked ive not yet heard his song before, its beautiful! like the whole of static prevails!

  • the instrumental at the end fn rocks, this reminds me of my high school days so much.

  • Man, the instrumental chorus nearly makes me cry out in painful joy. Its so kick ass. I watch this nearly once a day.

  • pretty fucking amazing at the end

  • he's not gay...?

  • what's that supposed to mean? are you looking for people to go 'yuh, gays suck ass man' (no pun intended)?

why does his sexual orientation - gay or straight - matter?

jimmy eat world make amazing music, and goodbye sky harbour is one of thier best.

oh and just for the record, as quoted from wikipedia

"Jim Adkins is married to Amy McCarthy, of Fryeburg, Maine"

so keep your homophobic views to yourself...

  • Wikipedia can be edited by anyone.

  • "Jim Adkins is married to Amy McCarthy, of Fryeburg, Maine"

    ^^^ is correct^^^

They also have three little boys, Jackson (7), Finn (4ish), and Cash( 10 months??).

  • that's cute ^.^

    i bet jim's a good dad

    thanks for the info :)

  • @pugnerd Which is why it's reliable...nobody trying to force their agenda down your throats...just knowledge lovers :)

Typically...usually you can tell when it's just garbage

  • Wat he's married.

  • what the hell.

    hes not even gay.

    Ur such a dick.

Ur like all the many people who stopped like judas preist coz the lead singer was gay

    FUCKING STUPID!

and jims not even gay anyway

    u thick shit

  • wow. i miss jimmy.

  • One of Jimmy Eat World's best songs and I love the solo at the end of this version.

Does anyone know where to get some good guitar tabs for this song?

  • its the big day out. not in.

  • Big Day In is a Channel V program where it's basically just a recap of big day out..

  • oh, cool thanks

  • 若い。。

  • This band is flatout amazing.

  • possibly the best 5 mins of my life just there :D

  • So good!

  • amazing song, album version and live. They both have different elements that make them great.

  • omg...this song is so emotional for me...its my song.none of you would understand.........but just know its an epic.....and it'll live on forever in my heart...

  • Jimmy are fucking fantastic!!!

  • I like both this and the album version, it's just more practical to listen to this. You can find a type like this on the Believe in What You Want DVD.

  • Fucking epic

  • This version is amazing, but nothing beats the album version. One of my favourite sons of all time.

  • First time I heard something else then the album version, but, I have to agree with cresian. This shorter live version is much better.

  • "This is alot more energetic then the roll over and die feeling you get from hearing the album track, I like it"

i think thats a bit of a throwaway statement

the album version is amazing. great start, amazing 10 minutes of loops and vocals and the surprisingly good ending!

but i do agree, live it is very good. at leeds festival, it was the song of the weekend for me, to see them do such an old song in 2007 was really great.

shame they didn't play it tonight in london :(

  • I agree, performance of the weekend! that whole set was amazing though, some proper classics in there.

  • This is alot more energetic then the roll over and die feeling you get from hearing the album track, I like it

  • Though this version of the sons(after seeing it) is possibally better than the actual song to some degree.

  • I think I like the loud overdriven chorus more in this version. Don't know if it would fit with the long version though...

  • Yeah the chorus is cool in this version. But the shortened/remixed outro is amazing.

  • Jimmy Eat World...

holy god !! great live performing !!!

    love it

  • Whole song's amazing....Just BRILLIANT after the pretend ending though =D

  • the 16 mins version kicks ass just to mellow out to

  • abso-frickin-lutely

  • where can i hear that?

  • Their clarity album.

  • i love the end 8D

  • simply the best JEW song ever....

  • Digits says otherwise. But still an awesome song, though it tends to drag at times...

  • that was just fucking beautiful. no lie. i hate watching a crowd uninterested in a band like jimmy though. i'd love to see this live with my own eyes. so beautiful. one of my favorites.

    thanks for the upload.

  • They're interested, it's just big day out is rather exhausting and they're actually listening rather than just jumping around.

Everyone loved jimmy at that concert...I was still a bit too young...next time they come out to aus i tell myself =D

  • lol, you and me both! :P

  • it was awesome I saw them play this at the MAC ( mesa arts center) and that the part where the heavy guitars come in Jim like jumps off the drums and screams

    yeah it was amazing

  • I love jimmy eat world!!!!!

  • Good version of the song!

  • Just saw them play 3 nights ago....did the same version of this song....probably the best adaptation of any of their songs!!!!!

  • what a whicked version of this song. these guys rock

  • because jimmy are good at long epic, interesting and clever pieces of music.

but live, no one would be up for standing through it, unless in the right cinrcumstances [eg indoors in a quiet venue to not a lot of people]

    x

  • Great Song But does anyone know why the studio version of this tune is like nearly 17 minutes long

  • Oh that was a mistake, it was only supposed to be like 5 minutes but then the CD got stuck in the drawer so they thought 'screw it' and kept playing

Note: the above may not be true

  • cool song men they t are always ther for me qhen im down

  • whenever I hear the lyrics "you are smaller ...getting smaller but I still see you" I get a chill up my spine ;P

    great "edgy" version

  • yeah especially on the album version

  • They do a great job on this song live, but it's nothing compared to on the CD.

  • i love this song on clarity. but this doesn't sound that well "live". maybe he was having a bad day but his live singing leaves a bit to be desired. but he seems to be rockin out so thats good =)

  • omg this is a great live version of this song, buddy..."a bad day"? you must just be getting into this band

  • snap! best performance of this song i've seen. shame about the sync =/

  • awesome! thanks for putting this on here...its on my favs so dont delete it :)

  • I'll guarantee you'll love it more.

  • love the song? read "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving.

  • My favorite song ever =D

  • I would've liked to see them take this song out to 15 minutes like they did on their album. I swear, the Clarity album is a masterpiece to this day.

  • this is a performance from Big Day Out in 03, the big day in thing comes from when channel V replays the live performances the weekend after the show i believe.

  • That's Youtube's fault. I notice it on a lot of videos.

  • Thanks for the comments, I just realized the timing between audio and video is not quite accurate, sorry about that!

  • Fuckin Sweet Preformance, I Love This Song Live Thanks For The Upload!

  • Woohoo, one of my favourite songs. Thanks for uploading
