This is an amazing arrangement. Almost wish they played this version when I saw them last year...but the full one is also great. I have fond memories of listening to the album version (sneakily, under cover of a hoodie) as my plane took off from Sky Harbor last summer :)

4:07 is like mind blowing!! the crowd is like gettin the end of the song cheer into full swing and JEW's like STFU!!! bam heres some fucktastic rock!!!!!! man that crapyourpants goodness until 4:41.
@phynyte MCR is one of the best bands ever! You shouldnt say that about Gerard Way, he is one of the best vocalists ever! Now they are even more popular due to their new album release so that is a horrible switch.
so i just replayed this for the 3rd time and i have to say the build up and that outro at the end are put this song on another level. great live performance jew!
good band.. so underrated. but they do get a lot of love here in AZ. I usually like more intricate music, but even though they sound kinda poppy its good stuff.
If people weren't in such a rush and bothered the listen to the 16 minute version then they'd realize that it's actually quite intricate and complex. They're continuously adding more instruments and more vocal loops to the point where a new one is added almost every measure. But at the same time if you don't want to listen for the subtle changes it can still put you in an emotional limbo...It's genius.
yeah i know 16 min version is THE SHIT but i think this version is good for a regular show, that thing they do of getting louder instead of quieter at the chorus is great for live performance but when listening to clarity as a whole you should hear THE WHOLE if they have done this version in Clarity X10 it would have been EPIC FAIL
goodbye sky harbour is an awesome song, but man it can't be compared to only in dreams. Because for me Only In Dreams is pure masterpiece, can't be described by words
dude, are you kidding me? the full version of Goodbye Sky Harbour is about 500 times better than Only In Dreams. I mean everything off The Blue Album is great, but Goodbye Sky Harbour is a much better song.
I agree. I love GSH and I love all of the blue album but the only song I don't love on the blue album is only in dreams.. Idk, i just don't dig it. It's long and uninteresting to me. GSH is very interesting.

I heard that the length of the song - 16 mins+ coincides with the amount of time it takes you to bleed out and die from slitting your wrists....and Sky Harbour is the airport in Phoenix, which is the closest to their hometown of Mesa....which is where I'm going today woot!
thats a bit ridiculous quite frankly. while modern emo bands are obsessed with such things, i'm certain j.e.w, and this song, have nothing to do with wrist slitting! i mean, wtf!
you are right, this song was based off the book, i think everyone should read. Its about a boy named Owen Meany who dies a hero. Its one amazing story!!
Almost every line in the song is quote from the book "A Prayer for Owen Meany." There is a scene in the book at the Sky Harbor airport, hence the song title.
@rubytiger7137 That's because this song is about the book "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Erving. The end of the book takes place at Sky Harbour Airport in Arizona and all of the lyrics from this song are direct quotes from the book. You should read it, it's really an amazing book (with an amazing song to match thanks to Jimmy eat world) : )
it's also has a few lines that reference the movie simon birch, with the main character constantly refering to himself as a small instrument of God(hence the line He said I am but one small instrument, do you remember that?)
simon birch was based off of a prayer for owen meany...john irving didnt think it could be accurately represented in a movie and asked the names be changed
EXPLANATION: Owen was an instrument of God by saving some Vietnamese children, which resulted in his death at Sky Harbor airport. He had a dream foretelling his death and saw his dead body, but his spirit was rising up to heaven above the palm trees with his friend Johnny getting smaller and smaller below. Johnny had kept on questioning his belief that Owen knew of his own death. Johnny constantly said "Remember that?" in the novel and prayed to have his friend back, to hear his VOICE again.
I love that this song is 15 minutes long. There is nothing too much about that. Its the simplicity of a few looped chord changes and then it gets all danced out...i don't know about anyone else, but i listen to the whole thing everytime. Its epic!
omg...this song is so emotional for me...its my song.none of you would understand.........but just know its an epic.....and it'll live on forever in my heart...
I like both this and the album version, it's just more practical to listen to this. You can find a type like this on the Believe in What You Want DVD.
"This is alot more energetic then the roll over and die feeling you get from hearing the album track, I like it"
i think thats a bit of a throwaway statement
the album version is amazing. great start, amazing 10 minutes of loops and vocals and the surprisingly good ending!
but i do agree, live it is very good. at leeds festival, it was the song of the weekend for me, to see them do such an old song in 2007 was really great.
that was just fucking beautiful. no lie. i hate watching a crowd uninterested in a band like jimmy though. i'd love to see this live with my own eyes. so beautiful. one of my favorites.
it was awesome I saw them play this at the MAC ( mesa arts center) and that the part where the heavy guitars come in Jim like jumps off the drums and screams
