I don't bother watching the video If I'm searching for a Coldplay video and I find a video that has nothing related to it, let's say, like a cover by Boyce Ave of Shadow of the day... Just my two cents. Other than that, this video is 100% right.
I just came from Boyce Avenue's Itunes....Their whole catalog is filled with covers,is that legal?I thought that would be copy right in fragment right? So why does youtube take people's cover of the songs off when Itunes let's you sell YOUR version of the song?I get that the labels are crying when they see more talented artist KILL the song that their marketed "artist" had.If you can answer that for me it would be very appreciated,thanks.-MJ
Part of a cover of a song is your own rendition of a song. So if anything is changed within the song to make it *original*. And you can correct me if I am wrong this makes the remake of the song theirs and there would be no copyright on the cover of the song.
i also had a problem with a video where they tried to take me off for a cover, i covered brian adams, and they basically told me to state i didn't own the rights for this song,
i added this in the description, and they never said anything more,
if i state this in all of my video's will this draw the line so that i prety much dont get anymore trouble with copyrights ???
Hey Tim, Benny from Puerto Rico. I have a question. How did Boyce Ave. Not get there videos taken off of Youtube being that they are of other artists. Nothing bad at all i have been there fan for the past 2 years and Love there covers and originals. But how do I get my Video covers up without getting my account froze for copyright and complaints from Universal sony and other music labels like those. It seems Youtube chooses who to do this with. At least from my point of views. Fill us in?!!
It comes down to this, If the music publisher who owns rights to the songs want them taken down they file a copyright notice & the video is removed. If you get three of these your channel is Suspended. There are several artists & labels that are aggressive in this for example Prince, The Rolling Stones & more. If you do not have permission from the publisher there is always a chance it may happen to you.
I know for a fact also that even footage you film yourself with a digital camera, at a concert for example, can and has been taken down by the copyright holders.
People need to be aware of this fact.
You may be able to carry guns in America, but you can't film certain performers...
Thanks for sharing some great tips. Watching a mediocre band like this one rise to fame is inspiring and a little unsettling at the same time. Today it seems like marketing is more important than writing great music.
If a musician wants to be a professional and earn a living from their gift, that is a Business. If it was just for art why would musicians asked to be paid for gigs or their music?
Yes, marketing is a critical aspect of music, the difference is todays Musicians have the power to reach fans worldwide using the free platforms such as Youtube.
Those who embrace this revolution will be able to grow a fan base without record labels.

Just because you dont appreciate their music doesnt make them mediocre, its a matter of taste.
