This is from 2003 - you can see it on a poster at the start. Personally I'd have hated for Wang Yu to appear in Kill Bill - it would have made him seem as cheesy, anachronistic and desperate for work as it made Gordon Lau seem.

Gordon Liu didn't at all seem desperate for work, in fact, he was asked by tarantino to appear in it much like sonny chiba was. There's a difference between being asked and auditioning for a part. He also was doing a ton of work on television and smaller budget MA films. He's not hard pressed for money.
