I wonder why Bert cares so much at 1:16 and 1:35 that Ernie was sitting up and waiting for the upstairs neighbor to drop his two shoes. Ernie wasn't bothering Bert at all for him to sleep like he usually does to Bert.
Reminds me of the jerks who live upstairs in my apartment who won't let me get to sleep. They do not drop shoes, but they make constant noise..and I can never fall asleep untill the noise drops!!! So in a way, I feel like Ernie!!
I don't remember this one of Bert and Ernie anyway, I sort of stopped watching Sesame Street around 1980 or 81 and it might be after my time...still its very funny man! (Tassie) Queensland Down Under
By the way Ernie and Bert look, I'd peg this as 1970 or '71. (you can pinpoint some years by subtle differences in the puppets' appearances over time) I don't remember seeing this as a kid in the late 80s either, but we both might have just forgotten it. It's also possible that this one ended up not having as long a lifespan as some others, for whatever reason.
The people who perform The Muppets are amazing at such subtle details. You might know that Jim Henson performs Ernie's mouth with his right hand, and Ernie's left hand with his own. That means that Ernie's right hand is performed by someone else. Watch closely, and you'll see Ernie twiddleing his fingers while waiting for the shoe to drop. It's those little things that help make The Muppets seem so alive, and shine above the rest.
Do u remember the one where ernie can't sleep so he starts count things in his imagination. Except they keep on waking Bert! Like counting Fire Engines!
Ah, Ernie and Bert - The Sitcom of Sesame Street. There is nothing like Ernie and Bert. There was a time when you had the Sesame Story, the various skits, and thne these two. They didn't really outwardly teach us kids anything, they were just funny :)
I love that one too. And I need some help. Does anyone remember a skit with Ernie and Oscar where Ernie lost his Rubber Duckie and Oscar tries to help. Oscar ends up bringing back a grouch doll (ugly and kinda scary looking) and also makes a weird noise? This upsets Ernie even more but he ends up finding his Rubber Duckie and Oscar and Ernie end up arguing which doll is better.
Did this come from Episode 2636 by any chance?

He was probably afraid that Ernie soon WOULD start bothering him. And in the end, he sure did.

has any1 noticed that bert both looks and sounds like squidward?

The 'fainting' of characters of the show is a classic element. Gets me laughing every time.

What is up with Bert's ears? They look a little misplaced or something. Probably changed muppets.

I had the same problem with noisy neighbours, then I discovered foam ear plugs, neighbours will always make noise, it's a fact of life.

To this day, when someone uses the phrase, "waiting for the other shoe to drop," I think of Bert and Ernie.

If it took the guy that long to drop his other shoe, than he must have been drunk that night!

Ernie: Well, old Ernie's going to bed now! Here's old Ernie going to sleep! Off to beddy bye for Ernie! Yep I'm really going to sleep now!

Does anyone know which Sesame Street DVD has Bert's "6" song?
MoLewis57 4 years ago
Hmmm... that guy must be sleeping in Gordon and Susan's kitchen.
DiAnno13 4 years ago
I was thinking the same thing--the only "guy" who lives above Ernie is Gordon. That's conveniently forgotten for the sake of this skit.
Marbles471 4 years ago
Maybe it was Gordon,s son Miles as a little kid.
moatguy 4 years ago
Pretty little kid----as in about negative 12 years old!
:)

How does the neighbor drop shoes through the roof?
Bert: Maybe he'll drop 4 shoes haha!
Ernie: Maybe he's got 4 feet haha!
Bert: Ernie, no one has 4 feet Ernie!
Ernie: Maybe he's an alien! haha!
I liked this one :D
mariobros32096 5 years ago 2
Good thing the neighbor was not a millepede! :D

Which he easily could have been in that neighborhood.

Why is it that the noisy jerks always end up living above us? I have the same trouble.

I never forgot this skit for some reason. There was always something ominous to me in this skit. Like the man was bad for some reason.

It's a joke on the phrase "waiting for the other shoe to drop".

I distinctly heard a third shoe drop when Bert fell.

That was Bert hitting the floor, dummy.

have a tv that is broken and keeps repeating the letter H over and over again?
