@MarchioVincenzo this isn't music you can TRY to LIKE. You either get it or you don't. The rodriguez-lopez's are on the cutting edge. Whatever that means.
I've been to a concert of their. It began to rain. I usually try to like EVERY kind of music, but theirs don't tell me anything....just pointless noises.
@MarchioVincenzo I know what you mean. What helps is expanding your frame of mind, maybe try listening to a song not expecting a good string of notes or chords, but focus on the moment and forget about time. Try to place in the middle of the song, and let go of preconceptions and any human impulse. Try to make every note a different stroke of color in your head, closing your eyes. If you practice, they become more vivid and complex. Music is more than sounds, and senses aren't isolated.
have seen them 3 times now. cant remember once. will never forgive myself for that lost memory. the other shows where that great. haven't seen a better act since them.
I've seen them twice live. To those who haven't seen them: BRING EAR PLUGS! my whole body was rattling! I would also suggest an outdoor venue! Shit gets crazy when contained!
holy crap...if you preorder the cd on their website, you get a t shirt, the cd, and you get to download the malking jewel in its entirety when you make the payment!
Damn, I'm so fucking pumped for the album! Sounds awesome, as usual. I swear on my unborn child that I will see them live this year. I'm hoping for a gig in Terminal 5.
@Georgelogan i realized there are a lot of bands called the crainium so to narrow it down listen to the album "a new music for a new kitchen" that will blow you away
@dmaterialized Except for Pitchfork. They think Octahedron's the best. But then again, it's a fairly safe bet to just do whatever's the opposite of what Pitchfork tells you.
Hey people there is no way to rank The Mars Volta's albums. Whichever one you think is the best, you are wrong. Whichever one you think is the worst, you are also wrong. In severe instances such as these your opinion means diddly-squat.
It's seeming more and more like Octahedron. Just so much more simplified and slow and not what you're looking for if you're a fan of the style from tremulant - bedlam. Even Bedlam In Goliath got a little iffy. I'm sure this album will have it's moments but doesn't seem it will be an experience like their others for me.
This is not "deloused like", "frances like" or anything like any other the mars volta records, this is something new and it should be appreaciated as that, not to be compared to the past, it is what it is, Noctourniquet.
The only thing I'm worried about with Noctourniquet is that Cedric cut his hair... this could be a bad omen, but it just as well may be good. Whatever the case I'm buying it
Yeah, to people that say that the mars volta doesnt have anymore....just listen to this shit. Omar still has that shit. and cedric's vocal on this album are beast, too.
@AllenHenry72 haha, I know what you mean. That's terrifying news. I thought I only had a few more weeks of waiting, I thought Cedric said January in an interview. If only him and Omar were actually in control of it getting released. It would've been out long ago, I'm sure.
they are talking about moving the release to the end of this year due to the fanbase pressuring wb on facebook/twitter/etc. which is great for me, bc i am stoked.
@MrSilence77 The Mars Volta isn't a super successful band and they're signed to Warner Brothers records. Their first album which was the most successful only sold half a million copies, and now they hardly bring in any revenue. Warner Bros. isn't going to rush to release the album when it won't sell shit, they're too busy worrying about their cash cow pop acts.

Impossible to rank Volta albums, except to say that the majority of people feel Octahedron is weaker than the rest.
There's fantastic music on every single one. My favorite is either Deloused or Bedlam, but who cares?

@dmaterialized
Right on. Sounds about right. I'd vote Bedlam.
