This is fantastic information guys. I was 6 years old when I asked my mom about where babies came from. My parents have not yet talked to me about sex (but I am 12), but fortunately I know all about it. I've learned about it by visiting Teen Health sites and I am confident I will know what to do when it comes to sex.

We had a sex education in school, where we learned exactly what happens. It was focused more on the scientific side (journey of sperm etc) but we learned about the diseases. The teacher did say 'use protection' but he didn't actually mention condoms :\

At my school they had this guy come and talk about how abstinence is the best way. he also talked about std's and the risks of getting them if you have sex or oral sex and the risk of getting pregnant. He did also say that if you do have sex (preferable much much later in life) you have to use a condom but you could still get pregnant or a std cause it is not always effective. But most of the session was focused on abstinence. I thought that was sufficient enough.

It's funny that, when I had to take sex ed, that all they did was teach us S.T.D.'s and the reproductive parts. Nothing about sex, nothing about anything. I think that the parents should be the BEGINNING of sex ed. but the diseases and things, that can be done at school. As for teens, I think that the pregnancy rates and STD spread is directly linked to the taboo of sex.

My school was useless and my parents did not do a very good job ether.

Lucky for me i have a very curious attitude and tried to learn EVERYTHING i could get my hands on. I read books, watched videos (yay, discovery channel), and just tried to soak up any amount of factual information i could get.

I was lucky also, that i only cared about facts. I wasn't interested in what other kids had to say, and i had already learned that religion could not be trusted.

I had little to no information from my parents. It was imbarrassing for me with my friends when I was not educated in the facts-of-life. Thanks for bringing this most important topic to the front. I disagree. To me, keeping the next gen away from learning all religions is to ignore one of the major components of our heritage as a race. I think we owe it to future gens to teach them how previous generations have tried to make sense of the world with religion. Then the next gen can have a better sense of how they can fit in it...with or without religion. As Jenn said, we must educate/guide/direct our kids and give them as much info to make an informed decision.

I had my first sex ed class in the fifth grade. It was optional then and there were about 30 kids in the class.

When an 11 year old girl got pregnant, they made it mandatory all through 6-8th grade. I remember the principal saying if the parents won't do it, then I'll pick up the slack.

A lot of kids were taken out of school permanently, but I don't remember any pregnant girls for my class.
