Usually, all you have to do is double click the file and it will extract for you. :)

Do not extract them! Do not use Safari either! Only use Firefox or Internet Explorer. Safari downloads the software bundle and immediately wants to extract the bundle. Re-download the firmware file, or IF YOU ARE USING A Mac, you can just go to the properties of the file and add the ".ipsw" extension to the file name.

Don't Click on the firmware! You go into iTunes and then shift-click restore/update to locate the firmware, and then select it.

Which device do you have, and what firmware did you download? Example: at the beginning of the firmware....

iPod 1,1 .... =iPod Touch First Gen.

iPod 2,1..... =iPod Touch Second Gen.

iPhone 1,1 ....=iPhone First Gen.

iPhone 2,1 ....=iPhone 3G

Download the correct firmware for your specific device, or else it won't work.

Try re-downloading the firmware, sometimes that happens. The correct format the firmware should be in is a Bundle software, not a .zip folder.

Ok so Ive downloaded the quickpwn, but when I then go on to download the firmware 2.2.1 for my iphone 3g onto my desktop I just get a firmware file with no actual iTunes icon in it, just a load of random files which dont seem to do anything, not the actual IPSW file that you need to jailbreak the iphone. No, you do not need to downgrade, just stay at the 2.2.1 firmware. AND it is able to jailbreak on Windows Vista. Hope this helps. :)

Who told you that? NO iTunes will not disable your wifi. You can just go to the download site and download the firmware and jailbreak, as long as you don't have the 2nd Gen. The 2nd Generation iPod touch needs a teathered jailbreak.

Got me a 1st gen ipodTouch running the 2.2 firmware (5G77). I've tried everything to jailbreak it but it never seems to push through. Initially I used "QuickPwn" (even tried using the new version/2.2.5-2), but the process always ends when the device reboots (supposedly after the jailbreak process has finishes successfully) and I'm "frozen" where the apple logo appears on the black screen. Any answers? I've even tried using "ZiPhone" but that didn't work either. :(

I need help. I tried this on Mac and Windows.

For mac, I get to where the loading bar is and doesn't do anything.

For Windows I get to the part it puts your iPod to Recovery mode but it wont go on to the step of pressing of the buttons.

Just keep trying on Windows, unless you have a 2nd Generation ipod it won't work with 2G yet.
