  • Too bad it's in an obscure round.

  • @Paganwarrior2000 not where it matters...

  • @DeadHandRed You mean in the early 1900's?

  • @Paganwarrior2000 lol nice

  • @DeadHandRed Don't get me wrong, I got respect for the gun, and the round too. It's just that it's not in use anymore.

  • From Wikipedia: The fast-operating Lee bolt-action and large magazine capacity enabled a well-trained rifleman to perform the "Mad minute" firing 20 to 30 aimed rounds in 60 seconds, making the Lee-Enfield the fastest military bolt-action rifle of the day. The current world record for aimed bolt-action fire was set in 1914 by a musketry instructor in the British Army—Sergeant Instructor Snoxall—who placed 38 rounds into a 12-inch-wide (300 mm) target at 300 yards (270 m) in one minute.

  • just plain awesome. i have been looking for downrange damage to a mad minute volley.

  • I seriously can't get over the Lee Enfield Bolt. It's SOOO smooth compared to all my other bolt action. Nagant, Kar, Carcano, Remington M1917, I personally even find it faster that my K31! 10 rounds aimed in 10 seconds or so? You can't beat that in a bolt action lol Going all out I could probably get 10 rounds gone in 8 seconds however it wouldn't be aimed in the least lol

  • I would submit that this constitutes "withering fire." And no semi-auto, let alone full auto. Sure would keep heads down

  • that was awesome, i am the only one i know with an enfield and doing the mad minute alone sucks

  • There is a way to 'rapid-fire' the Lee Enfield rifle. The Brits called it 'volley fire.' Putting your MIDDLE finger on the trigger, fire your first shot; work the bolt with thumb and forfinger; you can work up some pretty rapid fire this way. Nowhere near a machine gun of course, but if you have a squad or more of your buddies doing this, you don't NEED a machine gun!

  • Yeah I saw that one a program a while ago...must of been pant staining to be on the wrong end of it- in WW2 the first time the German army engaged in a field infantry fight with British rifles they reported to their commanders that the British had adopted a semi automatic :)

  • This is wrong including wikipedia, the mad minute is to fire 30 rounds at a range of 200 meters if you don't believe that watch this video Worlds Top 10 Rifles: Nr.3 "Lee Enfield"

    Someone ought to change Wikipedia.

  • Super cool! Were these all enfields? Really does sound at times like a burst from a machine gun!

  • That year there were 70+ shooters shooting in squads of 10, which squad were shooting here i cant remember. Rifles on the day covered most models of Enfields incl P14s.

  • At the Battle of Mons 1914, the German battations were being massacured and they thought it was machine guns when it was just companies of British soldiers with Lee Enfields.

  • Entirely correct Tony! German intel reports stated that they had encountered a force of NINE British inf divs. In reality, they had been stopped by just THREE inf divs at Mons. The BEF gave the Germans a terrible pasting with rapid fire volleys. The Germans coined the phrase, 'KINDERSLOSS,' meaning SLAUGHTER OF THE INNOCENTS.

  • It's so funny they considered themselves the "innocents"! I guess everyone feels that way about their own side.

  • It's not so much that they consider themselves innocent, rather this term is probably comparing the ease of the British slaughter of their soldiers to the ease of the slaughter of all bethlehem's children by Herod the Great (gospel of Luke in the bible).

  • if your talking about the British in WW1 and WW2 they were innocent. they were aiding countries in ww1 and were attacked for being on the allies side in ww2

  • @baconator490 no the germans called it slaughter of the innocents because their less experienced troops were in that case badly pwned by the BEF

  • well... sucks for germany in both wars!

  • The Germans would definitely have needed an MG-42 to stand up to this.....wish i could find a video of the 42 shooting at multiple targets

  • Yes, the Lee Enfield is STILL awesome after all these years! To think troops regularly engaged tgts that were 900m+ These days, 300m is the effective range. I used SLR out to 600m, then the SA80 came along & ruined the party! lol

  • When compared to the mighty .303 or .30-06 the 5.56 may as well be a spit wad

Its justified by saying you can carry and shoot more rounds but if you hit someone with a .303 itll drop them there and then, ive read many reports of 5 shots 5.56 and all it doing is making them angry and when you look at what well trained soldiers can get out of these the fire power is the same only 2-3x the range as youve stated

I live in canada our arctic rangers still use the lee enfield and im proud of it

  • @fuggsakes

its not a question of rifles anymore

we have 4-5x more MGs in the current infantry formations than the WW1 era ever did.

Rifle carbines are often used as a sidearms by modern MG gunners.

rifles are pretty much novelty items in the age of guided missiles and crew served full auto machines.

You seem to be forgetting about the millions and millions of people that walked away from 7.62 induced wounds.

  • @LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH Ofcourse it's an awesome rifle today! It's still being used by a number of smaller armies and militia forces because they understand, if you can hit your opponent with lots of firepower before they even realize you're there, you'll win a good portion of the time.
