I've recently started ditching all the fluff for just great f'ing tone. Get a great guitar and a great amp and just whale. Who even cares about a tuner.......it worked for Jimi LOL... Best to you.

I was wondering, can you go from distorted to clean by changing channel on the footswitch? I read somewhere that even though the amp has four different channels, they all share the same gain control.

i had one of these 4-5 yrs ago, for about 3 weeks before it knackerd!!! got a replacement that didn't sound as good and that one knackerd too!! just about to count in the first number and BAM!!! i then got back the original head after a factory repair and it was still knackerd!!!!

Im turning over in my mind whether to go for a Mesa Boogie or Engl, can anyone give me some advice?

I've never been as impressed with a mesa, at least not like some people. But you're right, at the end it is all preference. Try other stuff though, don't limit yourself.

engl can do everything a mesa can, but just a bit more. Especially when it comes down to extreme high gain tones, the engl has a lot more clarity to the tone, as where the mesa starts to "mudden" everything up, its just a bunch of... dont know... mud Oo

I have a Screamer 50 head going through a Mesa Boogie Rectifier 4 x 12 cab Tremendous Tones.There is a special input around the back that in essence gives you 4 distinguishable modes. Clean/Clean with Gain/Crunch/Overdrive with, or without Crunch. All modes sound Fant Fucking Tastic even if the EQs are shared with the 2 channels. I cannot get a Bad sound out of this Amp. I was a big Boogie user before, and Played em all, however when I played through the screamer 50 my search was over.

am i right when I say that your lead presence is nearly at 1 o clock? i have also the engl screamer head and a harley benton 212 vintage cab and if i turn up the lead presence more than 9 o clock it sounds horrible because there are so many highs. do you have an idea what i can do to make my engl sound like yours?

I think his sound in real life different, with too much high tones. But due to his mic placement, I think it sounds much smoother. So probably your amp (I also have the Engl Screamer) will sound much better, and like this one, if you mike it up with the mike near the edge of the speaker. hope this will make things a little more clear.
