@nursebarbie1 baclofen is an anti-spasmodic drug. it blocks some of the nerve signals that cause spasms. it can be taken orally or Intrathecally (delivered through the spine). the pump itself is inserted into the person's abdomen and has a catheter attached to it which runs up the person's spine. the pump is programmable with a wireless controller. doctors set it to deliver a specific amount of baclofen throughout the day and night. does that make sense? if not, I'll try explaining another way
@powerchairchick that's really neat! It kind of sounds like an insulin pump, except of course for the spinal catheter. And I'm guessing you've found it helpful? Have your doctors ever approached you to educated others with CP? You are pretty darn cool, if I may say so :)
@nursebarbie1 yea, it helps a decent amount. no, doctors haven't approached me to educate others. if they did, I'd do it in a heartbeat! i have told a few doctors/nurse practitioners about my youtube channel, though.
@oceanlove96 Go talk to your mom, she has more than you because she is a person fighting and wining against cp.You sir are fighting stupidity and losing
@PauleQueenie yes, it was. doctors basically told me that a baclofen pump would be the only thing besides something called deep brain stimulation (which would involve actually opening up my skull, which I felt was absolutely insane.) so, i opted for the least invasive procedure. i did a lot of research and got multiple opinions before getting my pump. i figured that it was worth a shot and I liked the fact that I could get it taken out if I didn't feel it was helping.
Hi. For a few years now I have been taking care of someone that uses Baclofen via pump. They really move the dosage up super slowly with people. Don't miss the chance to raise the dosage when the time comes for refill if you think that you can handle more.
Thank You for sharing this information, my brother will get the baclofen pump surgery this Thurday. I am worry about him. Even I know it will help him, I feel like this medical procedure is very invasive. I just do not want him to suffer.
@hellomelbel98 its a hockey puck sized thing thats inserted in the abdomen & contains an anti-spasmodic drug called baclofen which gets delivered 2 my spine via catheter. its supposed 2 block some of the nerve signals that causes spasms.

Was it your choice and decision to get the baclofen pump? If yes, may I ask why you decided the baclofen pump would be beneficial for your movements?
