@stevemtc1 Dude, you're not feeling me. Herman Cain said during one of the debates about Mitt Romney's health care plan saying "That dog don't hunt!" I think he could have gotten it from this video OR it's a Southern saying down in Georgia, where Herman is from and the Freebirds originated. That's the gist of the saying in my opinion. But I am not from Georgia but I did glean that information from this video and matched it with his line in the debates.
@stevemtc1 Thank you for your insight. I appreciate it. I am one of those guys that likes to know where and how certain sayings and lines started. Thank you for your time. Very much appreciated.
@DTA550 Thanks Man.....I love and respect the history of wrestling and realize that there was life before "The Attitude Era" and "Monday Night Wars" !!!!!
The UWF was the Best, Most Physical Wrestling Territory EVER !!!!!! I still collect action figs and use the UWF as my Fed because it was the most respected in my eyes. Jim Crock (of shit) ett Promotions screwed it away and buried all of these guys except Sting.
@SgtFletch313 I think the UWF was great back then also, but how can you say JIm Crockett Promotions sucked when they put over not only Sting, but ,Dr.Death Steve Williams,Eddie Gilbert,Michael Hayes, and Rick Steiner.Ted Dibiase had a contract offer with Jim Crockett, but choose to go to the WWF,and Terry Gordy left to go to Japan, and came back later on to win the Tag Titles with Doc.Get your facts straight dude.JIm Crockett Promotion ruled, and was not only every bit as good as the UWF,but better.
@sammys70 None of the Guys you Mentioned were really that "over". Doc won a couple of tag titles and nothing more Then turned up in the Abrams UWF, Gordy....same thing, Rick Steiner......mid carder...especially post NWO, Michael Hayes.....Tag title w/ Garvin...then later became "Dok Hendrix in WWE.....Eddie Gilbert=Jobber.......Sting and Maybe Ron Simmons were the Only UWF People that got "Over" in the Crock of Sh*t Promotions
I'm not sure, but i thought Terry Gordy was the first ever UWF champ?Didn't he beat Duggan in a tournament for the belt right after they changed the name from mid-south championship wrestling to the UWF.
Mid-South Wrestling/The Universal Wrestling Federation was as good as it gets! This is what they meant by "Must See TV". I looked forward to watching the UWF every week.
Oh, the famous million dollar contract between the Fabulous Freebirds and UWF!!! Back then, JR would often mention it, “Congratulations, Michael, on the million dollar contract.” Roberts: “I think Ted Dibiase would like to be on our side if he could.” Michael: “Forget it. We take no prisoners. We have no friends. We’ve done it all on our own. We don’t need anybody to help us around.” I truly love it LOL. It’s Bam Bam’s heyday: that buckle, that hair, those sunglasses. That’s exactly Bam Bam. LOL
i remember this. this was around the time Mid South TV program came to the Philly area. i always thought Watts' program was as good as Jim Crocketts Promotion
I still remembered when the Freebirds later beat Bill Watts to a bloody pulp a few months later they did a interview afterwards stating that "little did Bill Watts realized when he signed us to that contract he signed his death warrant !!" They said that they never forgotten or forgave him for their feud back in Mid South wrestling in1980 and that it was always their intents and purposes to come back and finish him off once and for all. To me that was one of Michael Hayes greatest promos.
when did mike an terry debut in wrestling.when did the free birds form.
